  1. Thanks so much for pointing that out to me. For some reason I didn't get notice you'd replied on the other thread, and just noticed 5 mins. ago.
  2. If I don't bother with POIs, is there a quick description of what to do with the other 3 types to put them on my gps (I've really been scanning all the information I can get my hands on, but my eyeballs are spinning, and I'm not sure). I've created csv files (that might just refer to poi's). Many thanks
  3. I've managed to get .shp files. They come in 4 types for each .img file: P, L, S and A types of .shp. I'm beginning to suspect that the .shp files with a P are the POI files....but not positive. I can get the .shp files loaded into MobileMapper Office, but can't get it to create a map with them. I assume I need to see that to send it to the gps.
  4. I don't know about Winnipeg, but we have these really lovely TDS Boutiques all over around here. I forget their other name....it'll come to me. They're full of things like Lock 'n' Lock boxes, and oodles and oodles of DooDads....oh, what's it called....what's it called......I think they even have a Gift Registry......oh, I remember now, The Dollar Store! Fabulous.
  5. Many thanks. I'd found the YahooGroups section, but hadn't notice the File button.
  6. Ibycus, thanks so much for making all those files available. Are there POI files within those files? I'm trying to covert them for Explorist use and having trouble finding them. Thanks
  7. "In need of clarification"? Maybe not for some, but I nearly coughed up my coffee when I read that....I was working things through, word by word, line by line even got to MapMaker, but realized at that point that I really was missing important information with POIs. I'm guessing they need to be split out of the files I downloaded from Ibycus, just haven't figured that one out yet. There's reference to a second file and second map. I'm so over my head with this, but the reward of maps on my gps is pretty inspiring.
  8. I can convert my original files, the .img files to Polish, then to .shp files. I'm wondering where I find the POI files to start working with them. Are they amongst the .img files I've downloaded from Ibycus?
  9. Many thanks. That is fast. I'm just working with a couple of .img files at a time.
  10. I'm getting stuck at one part of the conversion process. I take the .img files, save them as 'Polish text', then open them in the txt2shp program, but I end up with an empty screen in TXT2SHP. Can anyone direct me please? edit---I've managed to find the shp files....on to the next step....
  11. Do these maps work for Magellans Explorist?
  12. I HID a cache 14,000 kms from home in Thailand, on a small, remote island off the southern tip - my cousin owns an amazing beach bar there - only to arrive home and find I'd missed the part where it says you have to live kinda close to your cache for possible maintenance. SO IT'S STILL THERE if anyone feels adventurous...N06 29.463 E99 18.221. The furthest find would have to be the Angkor Wat Cache in Cambodia, can't claim an ftf on it though.
  13. I've never enjoyed running - more of a walker, hiker or cyclist - but I gotta say, give me a forest multi - maybe 5/6 stages, and I tell you, I run between stages JUST because it's so fun.
  14. Sure, I have one, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...3f-3aa200fa8c9d They should be commonish as the last thing you want after spending a huge effort getting there is a tough find. Holy caches, Batman.....check out the density of caches near this one...amazing.
  15. Canadian Tire's always got something on sale
  16. LOL Pass your cursor over your name and you will see that your number is 574114. Now that's not funny to toy with the worst puzzler this side of the Pacific coast.....you do what? Ohhhh, got it. Merci.

    Thanks

Just a quick post to thank everyone who works on keeping this site up and running so beautifully. Recent changes HAD slowed down GoogleMaps for Geocaching, but that has been corrected, and even improved with the '10+' notices. Nice one. and thanks for all the hours (probably more like days or weeks) put in. And while I'm at it, thanks also to all the reviewers and moderators who likewise put in a huge amount of their own time to keep my hobby running smoothly. Good on ya. Posting this in the Canada site as well as this to try and cover everyone. Many thanks

  19. For my pocket queries, I keep playing with the distance until the query includes just under 200, then I know I've got everything in the area. Mind you, I only figured this out after getting out into the field once or twice and realizing that not all the caches I planned to search for are one the gpsr. Very disappointing, that.
  20. Yep, I forget just about every time to mark where I've parked. Fortunately I usually remember after walking for only 1/2 kilometre or so. Everyone has to stop while I zoom in on the map screen, and figure out where the driving stopped and the walking started, and place a marker. It adds another game after caching...how close did I get it this time? I'm usually quite impressed with how accurate it can get.
  21. Google maps takes much, much longer to load in the caches in an area, to zoom in and out, than before the recent upgrade. Is anyone else finding this? I'm using Internet Explorer, and have found Firefox faster, but they're both still very slow, to the point of appearing as though the page has frozen. It's slowest when over an area with a high density of caches, but even with just a few, it opens like it's stuck with molasses. I'm sure I'm missing an obvious adjustment....any thoughts?
  22. If anyone's looking for an amazing Thai experience, with a cache to find, head to Koh Lipe, a small island about an hour and a half west off the southern tip of Thailand. It's part of a marine park, and the only inhabited island in the area. Where does Geocaching come in? While there in March attending a family wedding, I hid a cache to commemorate the event, not realizing it wouldn't be allowed as a proper cache as I live too far away. So there it sits, full of goodies and a logbook, ready to be found ... removed. It's not far from Mountain Resort on Koh Lipe ( you can't go wrong staying there - even if you don't, make sure you stop by the awesome Karma Bar ... google them, they've got a great site, and Mountain Resort has a link to the wedding I attended ... and tell Fiona and Jeff, the owners, that Tangerineman said hello). Co-ordinates following....

  24. Now that you mention it, Geocoinclub. I wish I'd noticed that before asking... Thanks.
