  1. Well said. It seems to be much the same way for cachers in our community. Thankfully.
  2. Not you, silly. Oh...I guess when someone uses your post as part of a quote and then replies to what you said using "you" in the reply it can sort of seem like they are talking to you. Doesn't it? [edit to add] I don't see how discussing this particular group here is any different then say topics such as, "How did you serve?" etc. If I were a mod (and thank goodness I'm not) I may move the thread to the "Organized Geocaching" section. The fact that it hasn't been moved (yet) tells me either a) the mods haven't seen it yet or B ) the thread is in the correct subforum. Time will tell which is one it is. There are many other reasons as to why this thread has not been locked, moved, or removed. What you made above is called a fallacy! OMG - not a fallacy!. Please note the smiley face emoticons and the use of the phrase "tells me". It is an opinion made in a lighthearted manner, in case you couldn't tell. Frankly, I hope the thread stays here and stays open. The discussion has been quite illuminating so far.
  3. A couple of different threads and a conversation tonight has me thinking about anxities and how they may relate to geocaching. I have to admit to being a bit of a germaphobe. This all began with a microbiology course in nursing school. (Don't ever take this course if you are even a little bit concerned about germs - trust me!) But geocaching has really helped me get over my anxiety around dirt and germs. No valium required! Although...being completely honest here, I still hate rummaging around in ivy for caches near the ground. I always find myself thinking about dogs and what they like to do in parks in areas where caches are hidden. EWWWW... I never cache without my hand sanitizing wipes. So maybe it isn't a 100 percent cure. But it is a good 75 percent cure. But I'm still deathly afraid of poison oak. And some of the stories I read around here about ticks. Uh oh...maybe that is only 50 percent cured. So do you have any geo-anxieties? How do you manage them? Or do you? [edit] spelling
  4. I was bitten by a dog while working (I make home visits as an RN) and it was very scary even though I wasn't seriously hurt. But I sure could have been. I didn't even consider calling 911 but my supervisor did have me call Animal Control so the dog could be quarantined until their rabies status was ascertained. Thankfully, a dog bite typically carries less chance of infection than you might think. I remember the doc at the urgent care said that human mouths are WAY more bacteria-laden than dog mouths. Kinda makes you think about kissing in a different way.

  6. And that is the whole problem in a nutshell. Most people hear the word "gay" and start thinking about sex acts. Most don't stop to think about how much of their own lives is wrapped up in their own straight sexual orientation, how much they casually talk about their wives and husbands and families and such and don't give a second of hesitation in doing so. Gay people have to stop and ask themselves constantly...is it safe to talk about my partner? Is it safe to say their name? Will I be judged and shunned simply because of WHO I AM?? It isn't any wonder that they tend to feel more at ease with people who can truly understand what that experience is like. Hence the desire to find other gay people to cache with. I agree with mresoteric concerning those coming over to the darkside to discuss the matter in the OT style. If you have to suggest people google your response, you are definitely out of line. Details about your group should not be discussed here whether someone agrees with it or not. I don't talk about my local Iowa club and neither should you. Didn't say it has to be hidden, but this isn't the place. Ask me about the club and I'll give you a link. Um...when did I say anything about Google?

  8. No. Rock Creek Park is owned by the county, not the state. http://www.skamaniacounty.org/facilities-rec/homepage/parks/ Thanks klossner. I did actually a replay from the event organizers saying there would be no fee for attendees. Looking forward to caching the Gorge on Saturday!
  9. No worries, Sioneva! I know lots of gay Catholics. I haven't talked politics with them so I don't know if they are conservative or liberal (or don't give a flying fig either way). Why on earth would anyone label you a bigot simply because you are a (conservative) Catholic? Jesus preached to love each other and treat each other as we wish to be treated. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
  10. Thanks, I always enjoy All Things Considered.
  11. From the articles I've read this won't be allowed. One fee per vehicle. They don't care if you sell your car. If you alter or mar the pass, it becomes invalid. I thought about using it as a selling point on the car, but I live in Oregon so this may or may not be a benefit the buyer would care about.
  12. It is very confusing. We are attending a Geocaching event next weekend at Rock Creek Park in Stevenson, WA. I spent quite some time last night checking the web for some indication of whether or not we'll need a pass to park there. I couldn't find anything other than it isn't a state park. But is it a "wildlife area" or a "recreation site"? I did email the event organizers pf the event but haven't heard back yet. I guess I shouldn't assume we won't need to pay for a day pass but it sure would be nice to know in advance. *sigh* I'm all for supporting the state parks that I use and enjoy but whoever was in charge of public relations and information on the website needs some serious retraining. Also...if I purchase a pass for the year and then wind up selling my car then I'm just SOL? Doesn't seem fair.
  13. It is listed on his profile page.
  14. Yeah! Looking forward to reading the discover logs from GW9.
  15. Well, I didn't get to spend the whole day out there but the 5 hours I got to spend were a blast and I can't wait for the next one. Thanks to travis and jholly and everyone else who made this possible. What the heck took me so long to participate in one of these?! [edit] PS - for PCM3, please consider coming to the southwest side of town. We have lots of great caches and would love to show off our part of this fair city.
  16. It isn't the fault of the CM. It is the fault of the CO who apparently didn't get permission for the cache placement. I was able to participate in my first CM on Saturday and logged 37 finds (my personal best) in about 5 hours. And it was a lot of fun! I'm definitely up for doing more of them.
  17. It says the idea has been deleted.
  18. That might ruin it. It is a horrid song. That analogy may have just strengthened the OP's POV.
  19. Eureka!!! Success!!! I went to try Ms. Blorenge's suggestion yet again and was looking at the traveler's page, scrolling down and trying to see the chronology of what happened when. I noticed there was a note posted that said I had moved the coin to "collectible". I never did that (at least not intentionally) but I think that it may have moved there automatically when I hit "move to last location". When I deleted that note to move it to "collectible", the coin was active again and I was able to move it to the last cache, grab it from there and place it into the new location. Now, I'm certainly not above making a mistake but I would swear that I never set this coin to collectible status. It went missing before the option was available. Maybe this is a default setting for older MIA bugs/coins? I don't know. But regardless, I'm happy!!
  20. I don't understand this post. I was just having lunch, and happened to have my GPS around my neck. Maybe your humor is too dry for me? McDonalds caches typically imply a lame, micro-cache placement. Many forum regulars have waxed poetically over the years about just how lame these caches are. Thus, you are running the risk of being flamed on this board by the mere suggestion of a McDonalds caching experience. At least that is how I interpreted the comment; I could, of course, be wrong.
  21. I just checked one of ours that went missing in 2008 and that is in our collection. It still has the option to "Move to last location," which is what I think you would have to do BEFORE you could move it back to inventory. You can "Move to last location," then "Grab" it from that location, and then it will be back in your inventory. I think. It has been attempted but doesn't work. It doesn't return it to its last location for the grabbing, even when I select "move to last location". I get an email notification though - and on the coin's page it shows the entry. But it still doesn't work. Thanks for the attempt though. At this point, I would try anything.
  22. Can you go into the edit mode and select that option?
  23. GS has reinstated one of our logs. They didn't require any verification of a signed log book, though I did provide them with a photo of my family at a nearby cache (a well-known cache) and they could see the other found logs we had that day to prove we were there when we said we were. It probably helped that the CO had a well-known history of deleting logs for no reason. But I still think it is worth sending them an email about it.
  24. Eartha - Under normal conditions, I would agree wholeheartedly with this but right now, please do not mark any trackable as missing. There is a glitch in the system that makes it impossible to retrieve the MIA GC/TB out of a cacher's collection once it is marked missing. So if your traveler is found again down the line, the CO has no way to put it back into play electronically. The issue is being discussed HERE and seems to be affecting coins/TBs that the owner didn't set a preference on (collectible vs. not collectible) before the option was put into the system. If this is confusion, talk to BlueDeuce. He can probably explain it better than I just did.
