  1. Speaking of the TB changes.... I really miss the view all logs option. When a TB has a goal of visiting all states it's much easier to see what states it's been too if you can see all logs on one page.
  2. Something must be up. I marked one to run about 10am today it shows it ran today at 12:00:00am. No email received.
  3. All paid orders have been shipped. Have a few of the Nickel still available. Gold is sold out but have started a waiting list if some become available.
  4. A Portland Oregon Area geocaching association Geocachers Exploring Oregon http://www.GEOregon.com had 300 Oregon Sesquicentennial geocoins minted and have very few remaining for sale. We are thinking of having more minted if we get enough interest. We have less than 20 of each Gold or Nickel available. Gold Nickel Trackable with own icon: Price $9ea Shipping $3 First coin $1 each additional (US only) If interested send me your paypal address with Metal type and quantity and I'll send a paypal invoice.
  5. I would love to adopt a coin for you! Thanks
  6. My PQ email is going to gmail. 1 PQ ran at 8:47am pst and have not received it yet, so I ran another one just now. The second one ran and was received in email instantly. Still waiting on the first one that ran at 8:47am. At least I got one of them to keep me busy
  7. Wasn't really trying for the FTF but I just happened to run a PQ and noticed a couple of new caches near where we planned to be later that day. I ended up being FTF on two caches about 1995 miles from home. Still like the comment the STF person made ' Well, I'm embarrassed. We let one of them left-coasters (oops, no pun intended) sneak in here and grab a FTF out from under our noses....'
  8. What about the use of valve covers that are placed on private property with owner permission? I'm sure a pointy object was used to place the cover in the ground. I have run across a few of these in cache owners front yards or in parks with permission. The cache pages state that owner permission was given to use this type of container.
  9. I've noticed a lot of cheap coins that can be used just like travel bug tags, Cache Movers geocoin, Travel Slug, Travel Ingot, and Mt Traveling 2 cents. These coins have a hole with a chain to attach a travel bug just like the original travel bug tag. My concern even though the traveling geocoins are cheap will they have a shorter life span then a travel bug tag. Some may get confused with a coin attached to a travel bug and not realize it's the same thing. What does everyone perfer? Original Travel Bug tag. A 'traveling' geocoin because it has it's own icon. Doesn't really matter since they work the same. What are your thoughts?
  10. Looks like the whole gc.com email system is having problems. Not receiving new notifications, pocket queries, or copy of email sent to a user. Hope it gets resolved soon.
  11. Using the Hide and Seek search page it looks like the closest cache is 402 miles away. Pocket queries default to 100 mile radius.
  12. One time I submitted a cache to just check coordinates before I designed a cache to fit in the area and put in the description. 'More description to follow once cache is placed. CACHE IS NOT IN PLACE. Checking to see if this area is available. DO NOT PUBLISH'. The reviewer accidentally published the cache but almost immediately retracted the listing. I'm sure it confused a few FTF people that saw the new cache email but when they click on the listing it say can't be viewed until published. I never did place a cache in the area due to the amount of poison oak in the area.
  13. I went to the hide and seek page and searched by keyword for fall& with the same results as trainlove using IE6. I tested it in firefox and it displays correctly, so is it an IE(6) problem?
  14. Mine is not running either. I checked the box for a query to run that I ran yesterday about 2 hours ago. Still hasn't run. If there a time limit that queries can one run once in a 24 hour period? Shows it ran ran last on 6/8/2008 11:41:48 PM and it's in bold text.
  15. I'm not sure experience will guarantee a cache will be placed properly. A few months ago a new cache was published by someone that has 70 finds but has already placed three caches. I didn’t have any troubles finding other caches they placed. I tried for the FTF but in the description they mentioned no bushwacking required, however the coordinates put me in an area that would require about 120ft of bushwacking. After receiving a hint, which put it in a totally different area and playing around with the coordinates I realized they mistyped them and the cache was about 535 ft away from the posted coordinates. Another new cache was published and after reading the description I realized it was near a post office. However google maps had it in a totally different area. This was also caused by mistyping the coordinates but this time it was 1.1 miles off. I managed to get the FTF and mentioned the error. This was by a person that has found over 700 caches and has placed 16 caches. Being a FTF chaser I have seen problems with a people submitting their first cache and not have the actual cache in place. I would like to see a question asked to people placing their first couple of caches “Is the cache currently at the posted coordinates?”. I usually get responses like ‘this is my first cache and didn’t understand the complete process’, ‘I didn’t know people rush out that quick once published’, ‘I won’t make that mistake next time, sorry’. I have learned not to rush out if it's their first cache placement. Yes the guidelines say ‘Your cache should be in place and ready to hunt at the time your cache page is submitted for review. If for any reason it is not ready, please either disable your cache page so that it won’t be seen by the reviewer until ready, or include a “note to reviewer” to explain your special circumstances (for example, waiting for a permit from a land manager).’ , but do people actually read/understand them thoroughly?
  16. I use the same stats program and that's why I was curious about the details of exactly what caches a cacher has or hasn't found of mine. It will show for instance 12 of 14 found but which 2 haven't they found.
  17. The other day I was curious about what caches a particular user found that were mine. I know that if I look at their profile and it will shows the arrow icon with ‘mine’. However some profiles with many pages of found caches and it’s difficult to page through all of them and figure out which ones they haven’t found. Is it possible to add a feature/report to show only my caches found in a user’s profile?
  18. I think your talking about the same Trail Mix Crunch commercial on discovery channel I saw the other night. As I was skipping the commercials I noticed something that said geocaching. After playing back I realized it was an AD and they mentioned a web site for a sweepstakes. You can watch all the videos at http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/alaska/video-p...-challenge.html but Episode 3 mentions geo-caching.
  19. I don't like the idea of hiding/not showing the coin icons. I have many times gone to pick up coins and TBs before a trip to move to a different state for miles. Most of these cacehes are ones I've already found and if the icon was not listed on the cache page I would not revist these caches hoping a coin might be there. Yes if the icon doesn't show in searches it may keep some out of thieves hands. One the other hand if I was looking to move coins and a coin was listed in a 4/5 star puzzle cache I might make a special trip just to help it move. I have a few missing coins and understand the frustration when they go missing. TBs also go missing and can cost about the same or more for the tag and item attached. Should we not show that icon also? I've had as many TBs go missing as coins. One TB was lost to a muggled cache, another one was in someone backback that was stolen from their car. One was picked up over a year ago but the cacher could not be contacted and recently showed up in a cache a year later. Would this really help or is this wishful thinking? We still have the issue with newbies not knowing that a TB or Coin is a trackable item. Hopefully if they keep caching they will realize that was a tackable geocoin and not just swag and log it eventually.
  20. I had a decoy on one of my caches for awhile. It was a baseball under a geocache stick pile saying 'Not the cache but your close'. People seemed to like it and here are some of the comments Loved the baseball!!! Humor and a good hide go well together. TFTH Nice hide, liked your knuckle ball. Signed log. THTH. Interesting little 'non-cache' hint nearby. It's a good thing the clever Baseball was clear about it's function. Otherwise we might have tried to disassemble it. Thanks for the hide. Interesting tree indeed. Cute little teaser too. Loved the decoy cache. Was a baseball close by that was funny. Had a good laugh when I got the message that I was close but not there yet. Thanks for the hunt. Found the decoy right away, but then wandered a bit, up and around. Turns out I was right on top of it all along -- it was just very, very well hidden. PhantomTech
  21. Maybe that's it. I'm 99% 'paperless' but it's those new caches that pop up that I want to rush out for the FTF and don't want to dump it to the PDA. Luckily I notice before leaving the house that it didn't print correctly.
  22. I thought that it was something with my printer. One page would print fine the next wouldn't. Missing all the information at the top (everything above short description), Cache name, coordinates difficulty, and terrain. Glad to know it's just not my printer/setup.
  23. I recently found two dorkfish coins in a cache that have the tracking number scratched off. Did someone damage these coins on purpose or was there a problem with the tracking numbers and they are just swag? One was attached to a TB tag that is used to trade out travel bugs. No mention of this attached coin in the logs.
  24. Recently I went to a cache that was about 60 feet up in a large pine tree. I was able to see the cache from the ground. I wasn't dressed appropriately to attempt to retrieve the cache. Long pants and gloves would be nice. Maybe I just chickened out and didn’t want to risk my life. My question is about liability. I understand if I make the choice to climb 60 feet up a tree I would assume some of the liability. Who could be held liable if an accident occurred while climbing a tree? Land Owner, Cache Owner, or person climbing the tree. Are there any rules about placing a cache in a dangerous situation? Maybe I am overreacting because I just chickened out of climbing a tree. Some people could define a guard rail cache on a busy street dangerous.
