  2. From the CNN News Wire: January 2, 2004 SCO got wind of the MS or Disney deal and declared that they owned the patents to geocaching as acquired from Garmin in 1996. A spokesperson for the company said that they would be filing a 3 Billion dollar lawsuit against GC.com as well as individual suits against GeoCachers who had found 1500 or more caches.

  5. Dang! We were all over that! Good for us! We did it within our community without resorting to chain mails and spam. Okay, we lost, but not without one heck of a fight! I say we do this again next year! Which one of you are going to get engaged in a Geo-caching way? This time, you WILL get the ring!!! By the way, to all of you who voted! Your the best! Makes me proud to be part of such a great sport with such wonderful people!

  8. What amazes me is the constant 100 vote separation. We are doing SUCH A GOOD job of keeping up the pressure. I can't wait to see the flurry of activity on New Years Eve. Vote Early - Vote Often ;-)

  11. If you have NT, 2000, XP or 2003 you may need to type "ipconfig /release" prior to typing "ipconfig /renew" Sung to Monte Pythons "Spam"... Vote Vote Vote Vote Vote Vote Vote Vote
  12. PS... I "googled" the competition and was unable to locate any posts by Kellie Mannina & Royce Girouard. Perhaps one of our more talented Geocachers can find the post cache that we are fighting...
  13. I think that this really has turned into Geocachers vs. "Unknowen Forum". It would be fun to find out what Chat or ?? area they are using to generate votes! Since I am stuck with static IP's (read that "all voted out") Let me give the rest of you a little computer lesson. If your connected directly to your DSL or Cable Modem, try the following: Click the start button (this assumes windows not Mac) click on "run" If you are Windows 95, 98, 98 second edition, or ME then type "winipcfg" (without the "'s) and click "OK" Now when the little window comes up, there will be a button that says "renew". Every time you click this it should give you a different IP address. So, click, vote, click, vote... If you are Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 then type "cmd" (without the "'s) and click "OK". A black window with white text will appear. In the black window type "ipconfig /renew" (without the "'s) and press the "enter" key. After a little think time it should give you a new IP Address. Then you can vote again. To easily repeat the typing in the black window, just press your keyboards "up arrow" key and it will fill in the text again. This does NOT work if you have one of those "Broadband Routers" between your computer and the DSL/Cable modem. There are ways to get these to "renew" their address, but it is not as easy. Drop me a line at info@DogHike.org if you would like to try. In the mean time, here is the Voting URL again: Diamond Cutter Intl - Voting Page

  19. Wow, this is going to be a photo finish! Since we are on to two pages now, I am re-supplying the URL for voting: Diamond Website for Voting We are currently ahead by 15 votes! GOOD WORK. Lets keep it coming!
  20. Oh this is going to be exciting. As of 5:30pm Saturday the race is now: Geocaching for Love 49.1% (202 Votes) Finally 46.9% (193 Votes) Judging from last months voting, I think we are also going to win most votes in 2003! Keep up the good work and KEEP VOTING!
  21. We are ahead by ONE vote!!! Way to go team!
  22. By the way, I like the idea of them winning and putting the prize in a cache. Can it be a travel bug please? Maybe in the form of an unsigned credit card?
  23. Thanks for the additional research. Big nope on that "Once per Day". They have me pegged at my IP even though I voted a couple weeks ago. Actually now that you mention it. I suspect that the perps were using a DHCP connection and just doing a "ipconfig /renew" before each vote. They probably had to stop when their block of address ran out (120 usually)
