  1. There's a local CO that has put together a number of "games" one either downloads or plays online to get coordinates.

    Examples:

    http://coord.info/GC51M7R

    http://coord.info/GC593MV

    http://coord.info/GC51NP0

His stuff is hosted at a particular site...but I don't know if it helps you.

Hey it's something. I'll check it out and see if I can do something with it. Thanks for the info! :)

  2. So I'm starting my Bachelor's in Computer Science and I wrote this game in JavaFX that is similar to Asteroids or Space Invaders for my final project last semester. Over Winter Break I edited it a bit to add in a way for when the player reaches 500 points they get a window that pops up with the coordinates for the cache. What I want to do is upload it to some website somewhere and then put the link to my game on the cache page. I know you can do this as long as the cachers trying to find my cache don't need to sign up with any sort of account to log in to the website where I have it uploaded or anything like that. Other than that I don't think there are any real restrictions on it as long as they don't have to create an account somewhere else or are required to download any files. I'm fairly certain it is okay if I am required to log in to upload my game and everything though.

So my question is this: Does anyone know WHERE I can upload my Java project so that other cachers can play it online? I've tried asking around, but so far I haven't found anyone that can tell my a place like this- or any place you can upload a Java project to and play it online period, actually.

    Thank You in advance!

  3. I traded coins with another Geocacher at the 2013 MWGB this year, and one of the coins was this one. It is the Event Coin for MOGA 2013, but from what I found online, the standard coin they gave out was Silver w/ Red Translucent enamel. This one is an Antique Copper with Red Enamel though. I have activated it as TB5P9W1 (in case that helps anyone somehow), but I can't find out anything else about it. Is it the staff version or something? I've never been to MOGA (although I do plan on going in 2014), so I'm not sure about it. Based on what I've found online I know it isn't the standard version, but that's about it.

Can someone give me some more info on this coin please?! :)

  4. With the GS API you could (but maybe not wise to) almost do away with PQ's completely with GSAK. For some areas I use a PQ to load the original list and then use the API to keep it updated.

Umm, so yeah, not sure what a GS or and API is... :/

Sorry. GS = Groundspeak. API = Application Programming Interface. These are a series of "commands" that an external program can send to the GC.com computers to do different things (i.e.. get a list of caches in an area; refresh the cache data already downloaded; get logs for caches; etc.) automatically. Some of these are hard to do manually (such as get caches in an area that cacher's X, Y, and Z haven't found). The smart phone apps use this to connect to GC.com and GSAK now has these commands built in for our use. It makes GSAK even more powerful and useful.

Oh okay I follow you now! :) And yeah that does sound useful! Especially that one about getting caches in an area that cachers X, Y, & Z haven't found!

  5. BTW, how do you create a Wherigo anyway? Do you have to know computer code and programming stuff to do that? Or do you use a computer program from the Wherigo site to design it or what? I've always wondered that but never knew how it is done.

There's a forum here for Wherigos. It has contacts of people that are currently writing Wherigos, links to development software, and all kinds of help.

Okay cool! I'll have to check that out sometime once I get some of the stuff I've been procrastinating on off of my plate! Haha [:P]

  6. Your best choice would be the appropriate app (depending on phone) since it appears that Garmin has abandoned the Wherigo on its devices.

You could say that Groundspeak has also abandoned Wherigo....no app or builder updates in 5 years....

Yeah I'm thinking you guys might be right... I don't have a Smart Phone yet (I think I'm the only 19y/o College I know who doesn't have one yet. lol) but my current Dumb Phone is in the process of dying (and it is a piece of junk anyway, this is my 3rd one in 6 months that is going bad--AND it is Verizon's highest-rated Dumb Phone too! ~_~ ) So hopefully I will be able to get a Smart Phone soon and I can just use that.

BTW, how do you create a Wherigo anyway? Do you have to know computer code and programming stuff to do that? Or do you use a computer program from the Wherigo site to design it or what? I've always wondered that but never knew how it is done.

  7. Wow... I think I am actually impressed! I've never actually seen GSAK do something before that wasn't uploading Pocket Queries! Not sure what to think now... blink.gif

I'll muddy the waters for you then. The amazing free website project-gc is quickly establishing itself as being able to "do everything GSAK does". However, project-gc is european based, so it may not do U.S. counties yet. I haven't checked it out in a while.

Yeah I went to the Challenge Checker on project-gc & they don't even have the United States as an option. I don't like it either. Very hard to use and to figure out. Plus it doesn't seem to do much of anything even for those who do live in the half-dozen countries that they do support. sad.gif

  8. I'm looking for a program or website where I can upload my "My Finds" Pocket Query into and it gives me statistics that I want, in particular for your State (US States that is). I've used "My Geocaching Profile .com" before, but it doesn't have exactly what I am looking for.

I live in Ohio, so I am going to use that as my example... There are 88 Counties in Ohio, I am looking for a stat generator that tells me how many Geocaches I have found in each of the individual counties in Ohio. I don't need a detailed breakout or anything, just a number of how many have been found in a particular County, and possibly a map too.

That's all I'm really looking for and I haven't found anything that can give me that yet. Also, PLEASE don't tell me to just get GSAK and then proceed to lecture me on how all true Geocachers use GSAK, after I tell you that I just don't have the $30 to spare to purchase it! Everyone on the forums here always goes straight to doing that and it drives me nuts!

If you know of anything that can help me with that then that would be great!

    Thanks!

There is a reason why the answer seems to always be GSAK. It took me less than three minutes to download all of your found caches and run this report for Ohio.

  10. So my current GPS is a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx, and I love it! The only issue is that I can't do Wherigo caches with it. I'm looking for people's opinions on good GPS units that I could use specifically for Wherigo's. I don't want to spend too much (maybe like $30-$50 most), but I don't want to get a junk one that is hard to use, and has all sorts of problems and issues with it. I'd prefer if it is a Garmin, just to simplify things for me with computer things, but I'm fine if it isn't. Those are basically my only requirements for it.

    1. Relatively Cheap

    2. Not Junk

    3. Possibly, but Not Necessarily, a Garmin

Just looking for any & all suggestions or advice from people. Especially if you have personal experience with owning a GPS that can do Wherigo's and any experiences you've had with it that are Good or Bad!

    Thank You!

  11. Is it like saying that you are keeping it for yourself even though the other person still owns it?

Yes, that's one reason. If you have all but one of a series of coins in your collection, the Coin's Owner may mark his "collectible", and you then add it to your collection, to complete the set, for visiting Events or whatever. In that case, it's like having the coin on loan to a museum -- the owner still owns it, you keep it in your collection until returning it to the CO.

There are some coins that specify you may keep them as long as you like, just that you can't sell them. Those may also be marked collectible. The coins remain owned by the CO, and are to be always logged properly.

You should check the coin's page. If there's nothing on the coin's page about adding it to collections, the CO probably doesn't understand what the option is for. You could PM them and suggest they mark it "Not Collectible", which is the ideal choice for a Trackable intended to go from cache to cache.

Oh okay, I didn't know that! Thanks! :)

  12.

I also have a negative experience with this person. Coin I send has arrived, money he said he had send, never arrived.... Tried a lot to solve this, but no real coöperation. Be warned!

This is complete bologna!! mad.gif I've done more good trades on here than I have bad ones! And I didn't defraud either of you two!! mad.gif

JackHoe: I sent you the money, PayPal confirmed it and advised me that what YOU were doing was a scam people sometimes try where they claim they didn't get the money in hopes the person they are selling to is ignorant enough that they send the money again without checking or thinking about it so that then they get paid twice for the same item! So after some many talks with you I finally took PayPal's advice and ceased all contact with you.

    Best Regards,

    A VERY Frustrated TC+12

I'm not saying you didn't pay, I'm saying I didn't receive the payment and you don't really coöperate to solve it. You promised to send a mail to paypal and send me their answer to that as proof. You didn't do that. I'm just sharing my experience with you. Without any proof you are saying I'm playing games here? Who do you think you are fooling?

You say you have paid and I'm scamming? Proof it!

We both know that isn't true Jack. Maybe to you it is, but only if you twist & distort it. mad.gif

    Goodbye!

  13. Oh wow, I guess I forgot to click the little box to have me notified via email when I got replies to this post so I've been sitting here this whole time thinking there wasn't anyone who knew a thing about these coins! Oops! My bad!! happy.gif

Anyway, I actually kind of like it better. The coin I was going to get was just this little non-trackable micro Geocoin that I won for something like $1.50 since the seller started it off at $0.01 for their starting price. I think the 1 Oak Buck Coin was much nicer than the one I paid for quite honestly, so I was satisfied smile.gif

  14. Hey, I am looking for one of the Micro GPS Geocoins. I need it to be unactivated because it is for my friends for her birthday. If someone has one that they are willing to sell then please send me an email through my profile page!

    Thank You!

Laval K-9, beware, TC+12 is a fraudster, i paid him alot money to buy a coin from him and never get one !!!

He didn't reply to my emails since i transferred the money.

Maybe someone here knows him personally and could appeal to his conscience to send me the coin. $50 is much money to me!!!

I also have a negative experience with this person. Coin I send has arrived, money he said he had send, never arrived.... Tried a lot to solve this, but no real coöperation. Be warned!

Thanks for letting me know guys! He finally replied to me telling me he could get the coin for 8$ from someone else. I was asking 12 and could have lowered it to 10 but not to 8. Glad I didn't do business with him

DNH7280: First of all, did miss your first email and it got lost in my inbox, but I responded to you today after you emailed me again and I just emailed you back a second time a few minutes ago. I would like to keep my good name and, while I have not done that many, I have done some trades via the forums here and, with the exception of you and JackHoe, they have all been positive experiences for both me and the other person I have traded Geocoins with, bought them from, and sold them to! So I would appreciate it if you would not go shooting off into the forums making libelous claims trying to defame me!! mad.gif

Laval K-9: I did get another offer from someone else that beat your's, that's why I didn't buy from you. I bought one from the Geocacher named Toojin who received my money, and in return I bought the Geocoin from him. You can even check with him if you would like!!

  16. I am looking for one of the Master Mason Geocoins. Activated or Unactivated. Either Finish. If you have one you are willing to sell or trade then please let me know. I don't have that many coins for trade but I do have some. Please email me through my profile page if you have one you are willing to part with! :)

  17. Is it possible that what you observed was cache data that had already been washed through GSAK or another caching program, and they were just displaying it in MapSource?

No, I talked to the guy just this weekend and he says that it was on MapSource. Apparently there are ways that you can do it, supposedly only the people who are "really good" with MapSource and with manipulating the Macros can do it well. That's why he can't teach me, because he isn't as good at it as others are. :/

  18. Hi.

First off, you need to provide a little more info, such as the model of GPS unit you're using.

Also, did you mean to say GSAK instead of MapSource? GSAK has lots of cool macros, including some that do exactlly what you're asking for.

Oh. Ummm no, I don't have GSAK. I used to, but it ran out and I haven't gotten around to re-downloading & installing it to get rid of the nag screen. And my GPS unit I am using is a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx.

  19. So I went to post a note on a TB page today for a Travel Bug that wasn't mine, and I realized that there was the option to move it to my collection! I've never seen this before except with my own TB's so I always assumed that you could only move your own TB's to your collection for like if you have your own Activated Geocoins that you don't want to have to mess with in you inventory all the time. I know why it happens, because the owner marked it as collectible, but what is the purpose? Why move someone else's TB to your collection? What purpose does it serve? Is it like saying that you are keeping it for yourself even though the other person still owns it? I mean I just don't understand what the function of being able to do this is. Can someone explain this to me??

    Thanks! :)

  20. So I know you can do it, I watched some people do it at the Midwest Geobash last year a few months after I started Geocaching. However now that I am trying to do it myself I have no idea how to do it. I'm not even sure where I to go to edit these macro things. As I said in the description I mainly just want the Difficulty, Terrain, Size, and the Cache's Name. Maybe the Hint too, but most caches won't have room for all that plus the Hint anyway. Can someone help me with this?? Thanks! :)
