  1. I am not surprised that they can't understand your problem...I can't understand your problem...I think I get the point thought. You posted a picture with your cache and the cache was denied. The same picture was posted with another cache by another person and was allowed?? Perhaps if you got someone who has some better grammar/english skills to write the email for you. You might get better results that way. No offense, but it is clear that english is not your first language!!
  2. (Bolding mine) I don't deal in kms. I deal in miles (I'm in the USA) so those attributes are meaningless to me, so I don't use them. 1.6Km = 1 mile.
  3. Who cares? Are you really that sensitive about someone falsely finding your cache?? If someone falsely claims an FTF, then fine, delete it...but after that, who really cares if someone does or does not find it...or does or does not sign the log. The only person being cheated is the finder. People need to let go of that Rule Book Bible they carry around with them and just enjoy being in the outdoors. I only own one cache, and I really dont care who signs or doesnt sign the log. I placed the cache to bring people to a nice little park on a country road that hardly anyone knows about. I didn't place it so I could force the Geocaching rules on people who do or don't actually sign the log. It doesn't effect me at all, so why get all bent out of shape about it?
  4. Who really cares if someone signs the log, or if they even find the cache at all. Anyone who falsely claims that they have found a cache is only cheating themselves. As for a "tree cache", some people are not able to climb for physical reasons...if they can see the cache, IMO they found it. The CO should not be able to dictate who has or has not found their cache...This is supposed to be a fun game, a game that is played for personal enjoyment. The point where the "fun" is reached is different for every player, and as such, should be up to the finder to decide whether they have fulfilled the challenge or not. I only have placed 1 cache, and honestly I don't care who finds/doesn't find/doesn't sign for my cache. I placed the cache to bring people to a little known park on a nice country road...I did not place it to be a cache cop and start dictating that the log must be signed, or a photo must be taken etc.
  5. On public property, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy...some thing with private land that is not yours. Restrooms/change rooms are the only things I can think of where there is an expectation of privacy.
  6. Those IR game cams would work, but is this even prosecutable?? At which point is something abandoned property?? There are too many loopholes, I doubt the police would even do anything about it...Lets face it, we're placing little boxes of junk out in the woods and expecting someone who stumbles on it to leave the cache alone. When you place a cache, or place something in a cache, you have to be prepared that you may never see that item again. The only way that this could be prosecuted IMO, is if the cache(s) is placed on private property.
  7. All of my caching has been done with my wife and kids...We use geocaching to get out of the house and on the trails. There may only be one cache in a particular area, but we do it just to get out together.
  8. I take along a few extra logs and a roll of duct tape in my pack just in case I encounter a full/wet/damaged cache...its noting for me to do a little patch work on a container and notify a CO that their cache is in need of repair.
  9. The yanks on here don't know how good they have it!!! Here in Canada, we are paying $1.30 a litre...which works out to be $4.94/US Gallon.
  10. Depends on where you live I guess. If you are out in the country, I see no problem with placing a cache or two on your land. But if you live in the burbs, I would be careful. Placement is everything. If you have a light post or street sign you could place a magnetic nano or bolt on that is just on the edge of your property, I don't see an issue. I just wouldnt hide something under my wife's rose bushes.
  11. What would you be doing if someone didn't introduce you to geocaching? I'm new at this, but I don't hesitate to introduce other people to this hobby. There's actually a couple guys at work heading out this weekend to buy GPS's and sign up. To not introduce someone to this because there's enough caches near you already comes off as ignorant and elitist.
  12. Any eTrex model should serve you well. I am just starting out, so I bought a Garmin eTrex 12 channel (no maps, no USB). I have to manually enter my waypoints. With no maps, I have no idea what obstacles will be in my path...but that's the fun for me, I enjoy the exploring more than the find.
  13. where i live the only vicious things i need to worry about are mosquitoes so i have a really hard time imagining how exactly being armed is going to help you against a snake, or what exactly is the purpose of being armed? Better to have a gun and not need it, then need one and not have it!! Here in Canada, our gun laws are dumb and don't allow us to just walk around with a pistol/revolver. We have to just stick with the long guns, so a .410 shotgun usually accompanies me to the bush.
  14. Nice unit but no mapping capabilities. You would likely be far happier if you can view and upgrade maps on the screen. I hunt and fish...I have never found the need for mapping. Its more of a nicity then a necessity. I just mark my waypoints and make my way back the way I came.
  15. I am also a newbie to GC...I bought a used Garmin eTrex (The original) for $40...Very simple to use, but no maps, so you have to write down what your co-ordinates are on a small note pad. It does what I need it to do, and it sure didn't break the bank.
