  1. There aren't any. Bald Peak closes at night, and has a wonderful view of the tualatin valley lights. Lots of trees to the south which make it difficult to observe many interesting things. I took a photo of a nova (a star, not a car) out Rood Bridge road many many years ago. Rood Bridge park would also be a good spot, if it didn't close at night also... A quiet road between farms would be a good bet. I've never actually been to Larch mountain; it is a long way from Hillsboro. I've heard that it gets a lot of traffic from other, non-astronomical visitors. I've also heard that it is the best spot close to portland. Rooster Rock is OK, but doesn't have a good horizon. I had a spot west of Yamhill that I used a couple of times, until the road was washed out, and as far as I know, has never been repaired. Last time I was out there, was for comet Hyakutake. That was actually a more interesting story involving a disabled car (mine) miles from the nearest phone in the middle of the night. Went to Ape Cave for comet Hale-Bopp. I had actually brought a couple of small scopes to Champoeg, but Friday night wasn't any good, and Saturday night I was too pooped. You're welcome to set up your scope in my backyard. I'd even break out my big scope. It is far from ideal, but you'd be able to see Mars, at least...
  2. quote:Originally posted by Team JOYSON:There's a couple that Bazzle posted with the captions "Jason dissarming the bomb". My back's kinda turned, and I'm wearing sunglasses, so you could probably tell them that it was you, and that you've asked everyone to call you Jason. But really, all I did was take out the screws... I left the risking getting blown up part to you two. _"And then Trogdor smote the Kerrek, and all was laid to burnination."_ Um, to put it nicely, you still have hair I finally uploaded a couple of pictures - I got a good close-up of the device while you're trying to unscrew something - No faces though, just lots of hands. That's just not going to wash with the boss... I took very few pictures the whole weekend - must have been too busy. That's a good thing!
  3. Where's all the pictures? Why hasn't anyone uploaded a picture of me cutting the wires to disarm the device? Nobody at work believes me when I tell them what I did this last weekend...
  4. The apparatus? It was a glint in the eye shining into the night. It was the pounding of sweaty bodies. Release was accompanied by a blinding light, followed up by a crying child.
  5. Marla wanted me to make a few soccer observations. Dribbling is something one can do in soccer. Brandi Chastain was indeed the flashy one (we were there!) Kristine Lilly plays with Brandi (spelling doesn't match, though). There are soccer fields off 158th, and a little further as well; wrong direction from Nike. Wasn't there a drive-in theater there on Merlo road just north of the nature park? It's gone now - I think busses park there now. Don't remember what it was called. That area is roughly 210 degrees from Nike, labeled on compases as "21". The 3600 block is roughly the southern boundary of the nature park (yes, I am stretching).
  6. Kamikaze Korner has been approved.
  7. quote:Originally posted by pdxmarathonman:After _The Play's the Thing_ I thought I had asked Jeremy to make sure that no more of your caches get approved . We'll see if he listens to me... And here we thought you liked our caches After all, you're the only one who has actually found every single one of them. But seriously, the only thing hard about this cache is figuring out the traffic light safely...
  8. We left #326 in the cache that we placed today: Kamikaze Korner. This one is slightly easier than most of our other caches.
  9. All 3 of us will be at site A38 starting Friday.
  10. All sounds great! We'll be arriving Friday afternoon simetime....which should give us plenty of time to find the caches in the park. Thanks to Soup and others for organizing!
  11. Many congratulations to Little Imp, Big Sargent, GR and GG! Question: does the little one get credit for the caches he visited while in utero? Also happy anniversary and congrats on reaching 400 to GR & GG!
  12. Actually, a cache that might qualify that is inside Portland is Pirate's Cove by RUN-DTR. It has ruins, an old ship that is beached there - very spooky place. The superfund site next door can be scarey too.
  13. Put us down for one XL and one XXL shirt. We consider ourselves trustworthy. If you'd like us to send you a check in advance, please let us know.
  14. Since it was gone before we really started caching, our opinion doesn't matter too much. Still, if the puzzle is the same it seems like you should use the original. We also are glad to see this one coming back. It's a great concept. Would have loved to create one of these ourselves. If you'd ever like help, Fractal, with a Contact 2 cache, don't be a stranger.
  15. Put us down for a definite maybe. Unfortunately we have a soccer game early that afternoon so our attendance will be a "game day" decision.
  16. The trash doesn't bother me so much, and is not what we considered gross. So that we are all on the same page, this is what we are talking about: , which is why I mentioned it (plus we did this right after Wilkesboro, so we were already grossed out. I still don't suggest you archive it, but moving it over fifty feet or so if possible would do a world of good.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Charlie Trail Duster:It's a bummer! I shut down the Banks Tour cache because of all the complaints about the cache site and I cleaned up the crap at Wilkesboro Station. That's about the best I can do to improve the situation. Thank you Charlie, for cleaning up a "ripe" situation. It's always good when someone will go the extra mile to maintain their caches. As for the Banks Tour, I'm a little torn. We expressed some disgust at what we found close to the cache, but not really saying that you should remove it. Speaking for myself (Marla may have other opinions) it might be a good thing to have a cache there if only to show what people will dump on the roadside. I doubt the town of Banks would like the association Plus, unfortunately, it's probably not the sort of mess that a volunteer effort can clean up.
  18. We were next after Trafcon, and also stumbled into it, if you get my drift . John and Lynn showed up just behind us and we were able to verbally and probably odoriferously give them warning. That, and then our next stop was Charlie's Banks tour, with that drum of oil or something leaking all over was gross in a different way.
  19. Sounds good to us. Both the event, and the GeoRiot. Isotope's going down, man!

    Test

This is to inform you that I have ignored your test, as instructed. Please disregard. And, although I swore I would never use these words when I started using the internet over 15 years ago: Me Too, fractal!
  21. A riot! What a great idea! Let's all picket Dr. Isotope's house with "No Nuking" signs. Except that is probably outside Trafcon's jurisdiction. Not that I know for sure what his jurisdiction is...
  22. All our schedules are clear. We ought to do something. After all, it's been, well, DAYS since a crowd got together. Let's all raise a glass, and remember our good friend Trafcon, who cannot be with us that evening. Alas - we hardly knew ye.
  23. I've thought about reversing it, but I think that would be too confusing. The cache really isn't big enough for more coins, although that is a good idea. The second cache is also a great idea, but I'm afraid that if we made another micro cache, Tungsten Jihad WILL kill a kitten. It's just part of our nature to try to make each new cache better than the last, and I'm not convinced the kittens are safe with this one...
  24. We have this micro cache - poetry in motion - where one of its goals is to exchange the penny in the cache with one that is older. We'd put off the inevitable question of what to do when a penny is so old that nobody can exchange it out, figuring we'd cross that bridge when it came. Well, we think we're just about there. We really have two poll questions. The one you can vote on here is: at what point do we do something so that people can swap pennies again. By reset, we mean replacing the penny with a brand new one. Let us also know what values of X makes sense to you. The other question is: if we reset the penny, what do we do with the old penny? Off the top of my head is: Keep it Make a travel bug of some kind Collect them and award them at the end of the year to the best log entry as voted on by the cache finders We can only have one poll question here, so let us know what you think in your comments. Note: the penny exchange is probably the least interesting aspect of this cache - the poetic logs and the thrill of the hunt in front of so many aliens is more so.
  25. We've stayed out of the debate because half of us are way out of town (just logged a Chicago cache), and the other half has some work stuff looming that may kill the weekend. If possible, I will make it. So what does it mean that Lucky Lab allows dogs? If I bring the Kiwimonster, would that restrict where we could sit? She could identify Isotope by his scent, yeah, that's the ticket... I don't know about Sassy's, but other similiar establishments that I have, um, visited out of curiousity , would have one advantage in that they already have black lights around..... The other detriments probably outweigh it. Do people's black lights have batteries, or should someone check that a plug-in is available?
