  1. I have just checked some of the galleries for my caches. This pictures that I uploaded are no longer thumbnails and show larger than the screen and require scrolling around to view them, but the pictures that others have uploaded appear to be thumbnails that can be clicked on to be seen. Is this only apparent to the owner of the cache or do other visitors to the cache gallery view the same problem?
  2. Here is one of mine in Toronto ON Canada. Bridge Boutique GCXCEX
  3. I use a Treo 600 with Cachemate. Wouldn't be without it while searching for a cache.
  4. If I just switch longitude (West for East), leaving North latitude the same. The waypoint is in Kazakhstan. Hello Borat.
  5. I really enjoy reading the posts from finders of my caches. In some cases the finder is kind enough to post pictures too. However, I only discover the photos when I check the cache page on-line. Would it be possible to have GC.com notify a cache owner when a picture is posted to a cache?
  6. As I wanted a GPSr for boat, car and geocaching I ended up getting a Garmin 376C and then purchasing the optional car kit (which includes a dash mount and NA maps). This unit has a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery which is great when you take it out of the car. It last for about ten hours. The 376C unit also includes an XM radio antenna for weather and/or music. I find the XM weather very useful, particularily when sailing on Lake Ontario, but I also find it great when I am travelling on business. The music quality is suprisingly good from the speaker that is part of the car kit. I would not be without the turn-by-turn autorouting with voice. It is a huge safety factor and stress reducer now that I no longer have to be trying to read a map and drive to a destination. It save a huge amount of time and the GPS tells me exactly when I will arrive at my destination. It is also very handy when heading out geocaching. The screen is quite large and clear with a 320 x 480 display. edit: battery info.
  7. The discretion in this situation would be to not compromise the cache to go back when it is not so busy. As all of the work in finding the cache is behind you it should only be a matter of a few minutes to grab and sign on your next trip. There is no imperative to sign the log and post a "found it" the first time you are there. A note or a DNF would be a more sensible option if there are too many muggles around to grab the cache at that time.
  8. Here is a cache that I have just published, in Toronto ON Canada. It is GCXCEX "Bridge Boutique".
  9. There is another World Tour type of cache in Ontario. I just visited yesterday (near Owen Sound). GCWDZX WT16-Holland Dam -World Tour Destination edit: URL link didn't work.
  10. It does. Your suggestion allows people to look for the qualities that they like. It also is a solution to those cache owners who don't use the attributes either because they are lazy (like me) or own caches that are pre-attribute (like me). I think this would work better and would actually make cachers add attributes than better describe the cache to get visitors to the cache. Let's face it, we place caches because we want people to hunt them, but we all want to hunt caches that would be fun. I believe we are taking a step in a positive direction. This would even help if you were traveling in that you could narrow down the number of caches to pick from. We just now need to determine what attributes you can pick from. Not all should be moved over to the search or comments portion. The first ones should be: Kid Friendly Pets allowed Quick Grab Hiking involved Significant hike Special equipment needed handicap access Some bushwacking Significant bushwacking Anything else? I must be missing something as it appears to me that you are assuming a consensus where none seems to exist.
  11. Has the code in the description on the cache page been changed since posted and brought to this thread?
  12. Oh geesh you make me feel bad! I don't want someone to hold my hand and tell me where to pick it up at! I just wanted to know if Geotools is GIS or is it Java or is it some type of shovel or what! Anyways, I've seen actual pictures of caches and locations in the forums. Why isn't that considered bad form? Tragically, no one has found this cache yet so there is no one to ask and I don't like to run to the owners right off the bat. And I've all ready put too much time into this to ignore it! It's PERSONAL now!!!! I looked up papa/november (GCWYXE) and saw the reference that they made to "geotools". I too am fairly new to geocaching and would like to know if this term has a specific meaning? Thanks for posting a good question. edit: typo
  13. I use GSAK on my PC, Cachemate on my Treo 600 and I always use an inexpensive compass (Silva from WM with a rotating bezel) to direct the last 10-15 meters to the cache location.
  14. Please forgive me for jumping in late to this thread (and doubly if it has been mentioned before!), but I would like a simple PQ option to get a list of cache placements by a specific member ( or a short list of members.) If I read a book by an author that I like, then I will often like to read more by that same author. Likewise with caches. If I find one that I like, then the chances are good that the other caches by this member will be similar in style, quality, accuracy with coordinates, terrain and difficulty ratings. I realize that I could go to the member's profile and bookmark all of their caches and run a PQ that way, but it would be simpler to be able to run right from the PQ page. This would also be useful to have has a negative option as well, so that I could filter out caches from members whose style of hide did not appeal to me. This method would also work well when travelling. If you look at a few cache pages in your prospective caching area, and from reading the previous logs you like what you see, then you could run the PQ for that member's hides and likely have a pleasant seeking experience. This proposed enhancement to the PQ feature would benefit Premium Members only (as opposed to other universal rating systems) and put the onus on the seeker (where, IMHO it belongs) to do some homework before heading out to look for caches. edit: typo
  15. Premium members can create Bookmark Lists and choose to share the list with others (e.g., Toronto Islands). Often they can include favorites (or caches to avoid.) When looking through cache pages for your area you might see (on the right hand side of the page) a box that lists any bookmark lists. If so, you can go to that list and check out those other listed caches. Other users are able to rate the list.
  16. I would suggest that each cache be a minimum of 2.5 litres in size and be no more than a 1.5 star in difficulty and terrain.
  17. Well its working for thousands of others I dont know whats up with your computer. I've never had an error like that. I must have a good firewall...
  18. I tried your link and was advised by a message that came up in the browser that a javascript program was trying to take over and could lock up IE!!
  19. Who's complaining. Just an observation.
  20. I have noticed that in my (limited) experience it appears that a micro in a place that would support a small or larger cache container doesn't show the hider is being lazy or thrifty, but rather it is their idea of placing an 'evil' cache -- one that is meant to frustrate the seeker. (i.e., they want to be known for their 'clever or evil' hide, rather than provide an interesting location with a regular sized container that would be easier to find.) From reading other threads some people may take pride in hiding a 35mm film container within a pine cone in an oak forest (which may be clever), but the hide is clearly meant to be the point of the exercise, rather than the location.
  21. Doesn't that devalue the find for those who overcame their fear and completed the difficult task? It is akin to running a marathon, dropping out because of exhaustion, but in sight of the finish line, and still being allowed to claim a finish.
  22. It sounds interesting, but may be more of a Mystery Puzzle than a Multi.
  23. Discovering history/geography/geology etc. has happened for me in the researching locations to hide caches as much as finding caches.
