  1. GeoCache NickNames, Real Names, Regions and eMail adresses would be sufficient,so that anyone interested could contact their nearest representative. I find it interesting that you profess an interest in a transparent and open process, yet you and DBC want contact information so that you can send private email to working group members. Are you afraid to only post your submissions to the forum, so that they will become part of the public record and everyone can read and debate your suggestions and opinions.
  2. As a new geocacher I thought I would like to add a comment from that viewpoint. attention DBC: Your rants and attempted bullying are likely to remove any respect that newbies may have had for your experience. Your posts seem to take a position that you wish to be seen as the defender of the "average Canadian geocacher", and that you are trying to save us all from some "evil, corporate conspiracy" which is at work to exploit National Parks. From reading your posts it is hard for me to tell whether you A. want geocaching banned from National Parks (and lumped into other "evil" undertakings like logging etc.) or B. are in favour of cache placement and caching in Parks Canada areas (with similar guidelines and publication standards used by geocaching.com. You have stated your opinions (often with sarcasm) about the working group and process ad nauseam. I suggest that you may want to consider the expression that "It is better to remain silent and appear ignorant, than to speak and remove all doubt." Personally, I hope to be able to read this thread in the future without having to wade through your self-serving diatribes.
  3. Is an attached description of the TB and it's purpose important to most cachers? I have just set out my first one (in a small cache) and there wasn't room to add something like that. Is the TB page enough info for everyone who is interested in following it?
  4. This is a combination box used by realtors to leave door keys at listed homes. A key is required to open the shackle and change the combination. Quite strong and 'muggle' resistant. It is about 4" X 2.5" and can hold a log book, small pencil and very small trade items if you wish. I have considered using it as an urban cache - attaching it to a chain on a bike rack. Here I have used some camo tape to break up the hard lines. I locked it on a tree branch to prevent theft.
  5. Thanks. I was in Ottawa this weekend and used your list. Had a great time skating on the canal and introducing my son and his children to geocaching.
  6. I put out my first micro last week. As FTF I left two NBA tickets (which I had been given to me) as I am not a huge BB fan. (Sorry .... they have already been found.)
  7. You should read the thread before you write a response like this. We are not talking about DGPS - we are talking about WAAS. (They are two seperate things. no matter what Garmin calls them.) I read the thread, but the question asked (and quoted) was about the "D" on Gramin units. It can mean DGPS or Differential (using WAAS), depending on the situation.
  8. Completely incorrect. For Garmin units, the "D" has nothing to do with Differential GPS, which is what DGPS stands for. The "D" means you are recieving differential corrections from a WAAS bird. You should read the manual before you write a response like this. I don't know about all Garmin GPS, but with my particular Garmin model (376C), if you go to http://www.garmin.com/manuals/GPSMAP376C_OwnersManual.pdf and look at page #13 you will see that I quoted directly. You can go to page #101 for the description of the DGPS beacon transmitters. If you read page #123 you will see the difference between DGPS (USCG) and DGPS (WAAS). A user needs to set up the unit for Garmin DGPS (USCG) or to search for WAAS satellites. WAAS will show up in the Differential field of the GPS screen as Using WAAS so you will know what the D (differential) means in these circumstances. I hope this helps you undertand Garmin (at least the 376C.)
  9. The D relates to 2D or 3D. 2D is defined as: At least 3 satellites were acquired and a two-dimensional fix was calculated. 2D Differential appears when you are receiving DGPS corrections in 2D mode and a D appears on the strength bar of satellites being corrected. 3D is defined as: At least 4 satellites were acquired and a three-dimensional fix was calculated. 3D Differential appears when you are receiving DGPS corrections in 3D mode and a D appears on the strength bar of satellites being corrected.
  10. I am waiting for a cache approval. The FTF will be a pair of NBA tickets.
  11. That is why I posted a question on the forum - to take advantage of the wealth of experience here. Thanks for the general guideline. I have set a cache out (waiting for approval) in a City park. It doesn't appear that there should be any problem, I just wanted to check to be sure that there weren't any specific Toronto by-laws that other cachers were aware of.
  12. Hi all, I am planning on releasing a cache in the Toronto area. Are there any City restrictions (aside from those at GeoCaching.com that I need to be aware of?
  13. I am sure you realize that there is an option for downloading the .gpx for individual caches??
  14. NO - NO - NO !!! ....If you move the cache to a different location---(even if only a few feet)--YES!!! I appreciate the information. No need to yell though.
  15. I have just adopted a cache from a person who moved out of town. I will be doing some maintenance and putting in a new log book etc. If a previous finder wants to go and check what is new are they allowed to log a new find?
  16. I see in many threads that the posters have included pictues. How do you paste a picture into a reply?
  17. How do you add a picture to a message in the forum?
