tips on E.T. Highway and other power trails
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to nashuan's topic in General geocaching topics
Do you guys define a 6 mile walk on a trail with 25 caches along the way a power trail? -
I understand there's history, etc, but... who cares? It's still just one cache. There's literally millions more out there. Seems to be more trouble than it's worth. Or if you're really into the older ones... go find the second oldest one? Whackos.

Yup. If we leave with the GPSr in hand, our dog will whine whine whine. We can hear him all the way to the walk to the car.

We take our almost 2 year old mutt Martin with us to almost every caching trip. If there's a hike or walk in the woods to a cache he's 100% there with us. He loves every second of it. Not the best at sniffing them out, but when he sees the GPSr in our hands he knows it's time to go and he gets excited.

Cache page as a memorial?
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to ArtieD's topic in General geocaching topics
I cannot imagine what that town is like right now. Horrific. If the CO is OK with some condolences, let it stand. This is not typical. -
Most Finds in 1 Day

Our best is 25 in a day. That was on a 6 mile hike through a well-maintainted trail system. Very fun. Exhausting though! Took about 3 hours or so. -
I believe the best argument was already made above, ie, if you allow virtuals, you may end up eliminating traditionals from many state/county/town parks as they may require non-container caches only in their parks. I like virtuals and would like to see them come back in some capacity. I'm sure there's some middle ground somewhere, just not sure where. I do know one thing, the elimination of challenges will create quite a large virtual buzz for a while now.

I echo the same as a lot of you. My girlfriend spent an afternoon solving some of the easier puzzles by us one time while I did something else around the house. We have a bunch of the answers in a notebook. She likes puzzles. Me, not so much. When we go out to find them, I'll log them as found since we will both be participants in the find. I have no problem logging them as found.

I think I would enjoy challenges moreso if they had some sort of proximity rule. We're going to Disneyworld next week and I looked up challenges. There's 84 in the park altogether, with at least two in one exact same area. Seems a little silly to take a picture with one character statue at one ride, slide over three feet, and take another picture with another character for two separate challenges.

Inapropriate team caching names
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to brosch's topic in General geocaching topics
The GF and I found a cache probably 3-4 months ago. It wasn't a new cache, but the log had recently been replaced. On the very first page of the new logbook, the first finders of the new logbook wrote, essentially "YEA BUDDY FIRST TO SIGN THE NEW F___ING LOG BOOK. F___ YEA. SUCK OUR D___S." It was written to take up the entire first page. A few people had signed the log after us on different pages and we simply ripped their page out and threw it out. Ridiculous. That's the worst and thankfully only time we've come across that. -
I like the Worldwide Challenges and think they're pretty cool. The regular Challenges are pretty weak and I'm just not a fan. I came aboard way after the whole virtual thing went down and understand what happened but... I just think there could be a way to bring them back in a limited capacity. But I agree... virtuals are definitely pretty neat.

OK who wants to define 'three cache monte' and 'leapfrogging' to me? -
It's all about the numbers!
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to Roman!'s topic in General geocaching topics
Of course it's about the numbers! My numbers! Trying to average a cache a day. Started more slowly so it's taking some work - especially now that it's winter and caching after work is not happening. So, just have to make up for it on the weekends... -
Massive archival...
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to TerraViators's topic in General geocaching topics
There are still parks on my drive to work that are closed due to the storm. We went caching a few times since then and it certainly adds to the adventure climbing over these massive downed trees. The storm was awful though. I was lucky enough to not even lose power, although my entire town did for probably 10 days or so. And we are very far inland. Crazy. -
What was YOUR first 5 by 5 star find?
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to Psychoticjesters's topic in General geocaching topics
There is one near me that is a 5/5 that needs special rappelling ropes, tree climbing skills, etc. Can't imagine I'll ever get that one. -
Sudoku cube as part of multicahe=evil?
Straight-Cache-Homey replied to GCjeger's topic in General geocaching topics
Rubix cube? Sudoku cube??? AH my head hurts just thinking about it. -
Now that you guys mention it, you're right. My girlfriend and I went caching once with my dad (who is not a member) and while we were out he was able to download the app and find caches right off the bat. He didn't have to sign up for anything.

Remember that the reviewer generally doesn't know details on how the cache is constructed unless either the cache owner volunteers that information, the reviewer finds it in his geocaching role, or somebody reports it. Additionally, I'd imagine that any existing caches of that type would be left alone. I'd assume if they are not allowed, the reviewer wouldn't know this. Not that it bothers me..

The first bunch of caches is the hardest. The gf and I were absolutely awful the first week or two before we started getting our geosense about us.

Too late!!!
