  1. You need to change the Settings for Position Format to UTM UPS. Along with those coordinates you also need to know which UTM zone they are in and enter it before the "U" when marking a waypoint.
  2. I use a 64gb card and it works perfectly.
  3. Captain Nemo's Lookout aka Captain Pomin Rock was published 9 days ago. It's an oldie!
  4. I concur. This is my experience as well...
  5. GPSMap62sc at costco.ca for a limited time only...
  6. I could probably do $75 for a Dakota.
  7. Are you running up-to-date firmware?
  8. I agree with you on this unit being intuitive for a button unit, however the small size of the screen makes it less ideal for someone with bad eyes in my opinion. Montana would seem to be a good choice, but doesn't meet this person's criteria due to its cost.
  9. Not sure what I did, but it seems to work now! Weird!
  10. Who wants to go first? I got burned by 3.70, and I'm planning for a multi-day outing. Looking forward to reports from others. --Larry I went and it loaded fine at first. Then it crashed when I went to "Where to" "Photo". Now it freezes at the "Loading waypoints, tracks and routes phase" on boot up and I am not sure how I will ever get it to boot again. I did have problems with 3.70. You were probably wise to wait and see since you are going on an outing.
  11. Frankly, if I were you I would return the Monterra. This is coming from someone who had a Montana, sold it in anticipation of the Monterra and then bought the Monterra as soon as I could. I was then extremely disappointed and surprised at how it didn't do many things I expect a GPS to do. I ended up waiting a little bit to see if there were to be any firmware updates to correct some or all of the problems and it didn't happen (still hasn't) and then I returned it and (embarrassingly) re-purchased a Montana. Check out Monterra Wiki Common Issues and save yourself a head ache and return the Monterra and buy a Montana. It's probably going to be a long wait for the Monterra to be brought up to consumer readiness.
  12. Larry: those Backroad Mapbook maps are not locked to a particular unit, just to the card that they are on. So you are onto something about the common denominator...
  13. Perhaps one of the culprits, but not the only one. I have the same problems with my Canadian 650t and am not using 24k on it. But perhaps the licenced Backroad Mapbook maps I do use are treated the same as 24K by the unit with 3.70 on it.
  14. I have a 650t with major boot problems and these maps on it: Internal Memory Topo Canada North and South Northwest Trails SD card Backroad Mapbooks GPS Map BC & AB (Garmin Licensed Product) Northwest Topos OSM for CA and AZ I wonder if the Backroad Mapbooks map is similar to the 24k maps as far as the Oregon is concerned?
  15. I don't it's just you, yogazoo. My unit seems to be bricked, too. Not sure how to get it to start yet. May have to try to revert back to the last version of firmware.
  16. I used Birdseye about a year ago, and now have a subscription as well. It does seem faster to download now, and haven't had even one "failed to download" tile. It has definitely improved over time!
  17. I just couldn't take it anymore so I returned the unit a few days ago. I would have thought there would have been an update by now to address at least something. Maybe I will look at the Monterra in a couple years and it will be all sorted out by then. But probably not...
  18. I concur, I'm not aware of any updates having ever occurred, eh? But isn't Digital Globe the supplier of all of the imagery anyways? Go Bighorns!!
  19. I have checked a few times over the years and it has always been the same old imagery. Granted, I live in Canada and not in a big city (Kamloops). The imagery for here is so poor and old, I don't even bother loading it. It is all hazy. I thought Garmin would have added better imagery as time went on but it hasn't happened. I just download and use the Birdseye for the larger urban areas like Vancouver and Seattle. Not sure of the age of it for those areas, but at least it is clear.
  20. I uploaded the update and went for a walk with it and simultaneously compared it to an Oregon 650. I found that when reading the heading on the Geocaching Dashboard, both units would be pointing to the same bearing, however the Monterra's compass was oriented wrong versus the correct orientation of the Oregon. Also, although the Monterra wiki indicates it is now resolved, the issue surrounding "The Geocaching Dashboard does not update the nearest geocache while moving. [03DEC13] [2.20_1.15.00] [Resolved 2.20_1.16.00]" is still definitely an issue.
  21. Well said! I also currently think there is lots of potential for this unit if/when the software matures. And thanks for the heads up about the Monterra wiki. I didn't realize that one existed already. Lots of red on the issues page!!
  22. Actually, I did read your review and others. Everything I saw seemed mostly positive (maybe I wanted to believe and therefore mostly saw the positive, lol) until I believe it was yogazoo that wrote some frank stuff. I had ordered this thing way when it was announced back in June. Besides, I would have to say the Monterra still has a lot of potential to be an awesome unit. It just currently is nowhere near ready for prime time. Hopefully Garmin is well aware of this and is working frantically behind the scenes to get a firmware update or two released to fix this thing ASAP! You'd think I would have learned from the Colorado!
