  1. I guess maybe it has been there all along, but the new icon makes it stand out more. Anyway, Looking at my cache history and looking for new caches in an area requires jumping between two pages...not terribkly convenient. When I look for caches to load I start with a zip code or something and then would like to see which ones I have attempted or noted from there. This would be useful for me to note trigger a memory of "oh yeah..I want to try that one again," or "oh yeah, that was crap, not going there" Having the search results list give a "fuller" account of your cache history would be more useful for me.
  2. I am sure that this must have been requested but I thought I would mention it in case it has not. When searching for a cahce on the site: A recent feature was added that shows you (with a big checkmark) the caches that you have already found. I think it would be very helpfull to also show some sort of indicator for caches that you have made an entry for "not found" or even just made a note. When you are not familiar with an area it would be nice to know where you have been before so that you can plan your caching accordingly
  3. hmmm. not on my cache page. It is possible that I did archive it. I guess Iwill try again Thanks!! ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  4. A few weeks ago I created a new cache proposal that still has not been approved. But I can not longer find the cache page or figure out how to get to it. Unfortunately I no longer have the confirmation email and do not remember the name of the cache. Is there anyway for me to get back to the page? thanks ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  5. Thank you! Will do. ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  6. Glad to see that this is still a go. I will try to revise my story a bit and send it too you. ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  7. Hello Wisconsin, Next month we will driving through Wisconsin and as always would love to stop off at a few caches along the way and am looking for suggestions. Most likely time for us to stop would be anywhere on the stretch between Green Bay and Iron Mountain (Highway 141). Generally I would like to keep them simple and quick, but if there is something exceptional then we could be convinced to make a detour. NOTE We will be coming up from Chicago via Milwaukee but I am thinking that might be a little early to stop, but again if there are any great caches between Mil. and Green Bay, please do tell!) Thank you in advance ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  8. Thank you for the suggestions. I will be out there next weekend (9/28). Time constraints may not necessarily be an issue. If I have to sneak away from the family gathering then it will have to be a quick one, but I am hoping to rally some people and try and make it an event for everyone. Looking forward to checking out the area. BTW I should have mentioned that I am coming in from Chicago so if there are any caches of note on the drive in please mention those as well. Thanks again ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  9. I definitely enjoy the journey to the spot more than I do scanning the underbrush for glint of something manmade. Yes there is a certain thrill when you find the cache, and I have gone back to the same place 3 times in order to find the cache, but I the spot is the thing. The cache is basically an excuse to go to a specific location that someone else thought worthy. I am dissappointed when the cache location is mediocre. ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  10. I plan on being in Forte Wayne sometime at the end of this month. I will not have a lot of time for caching but would like to visit a couple while I am out there. Does anyone have any suggestions for caches in the area that are defintely worth a visit? Thank you ____________________________ To be worn out is to be renewed. - Lao-tzu
  11. I thought it would be cool to post a cache that required you to bring your garage door opener or car door opener/keychain thing. The posted coordinates of the cache will get you within 100-200 feet. The cache would have a receiver that would recognize any RF signal and let out a 'beep' or something. Once you are in the area you will have to zero in on it by sound. Besides all the logistical and technical issues with building something like this, you also run the chance of making someone lock themselves out of their car by pressing the button too many times. (I know it used to be 256 times...maybe newer designs allow for more?) ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette

  13. As indicated, most everyone would have their own standard about what is a 'Dog Friendly' location. Probably a more useful idea would be a 'No Dogs' indicator on caches. Used to indicate that cache is located in area where dogs are not allowed. But since most dog owners also have their own interpretation of what 'No Dogs Allowed' means, namely that it would not apply to their dog if only you got to know him, I would agree that this feature would have limited benefit. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
  14. If by "straight" you mean you drew a straight line between the upper right and lower left corners of the overall shape. Then look carefully at your drawing. The 'midpoint' of the hypotenuse (where the two smaller triangles meet) will not cross directly over the coordinates on your graph paper. If it does, try using a thinner pencil. - OR - Redraw the picture with larger (but proportional shapes) (i.e instead of the smaller triangle being 5 x 2 make it 25 x 10.

  16. To expand on what gromit said: The overall shapes are not really triangles. The "hypotenuse" on the top shape bends inwards while the on one the bottom bends outward. the difference is slight. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette

  18. quote: Other than a great idea, can someone explain why this is not a commercial cache? I hope we don't start experiencing commercial creep. Is there a choice of Dive shops to choose from? Is this any different than placing a cache at the local Putt-Putt that requires a fee? I always feel that a commercial cache is one that is setup explicity to bring in business. The cache is only a gimmic set up for the purposes of making money rather than simply caching. I think it is difficult to judge the commercial-ness of "gray area" caches like this one. In essence you have to judge if the spirit of the cache is for geocaching or for the business. If I owned a Diving Park I would definitely put a cache underwater, but it would be because I combined two of my interests. (Financial not being one of them....In fact I would fill the cache with $5 refund chips for geocachers only) Does the Otter Skipper own this diving Park? probably not. Is the diving park going to make extra money due to this cache? maybe. Will 'geocacher' show up anytime soon on the diving parks demographic pie charts? I doubt it. I have to agree that this is technically exactly like setting a cache in a mini-golf course, and by letting this go geo.com is opening things up for everyone with a previously rejected "honest" cache with a hint commercial-ness to come forth with "Not Fair!". (This cache is a little more distinguished in that it requires more effort to set up than just kicking a tupperware container under a bush.) As I said before, I think this cache should be allowed, but I commend the geo-staff for putting up resistance and I suggest that should this (or any) cache turn out to be a gimmic that the cachers will let Jeremy and friends know and it can be removed.
  19. I think it is fine. (and pretty cool). The audience for this cache is certianly limited and I would think that since scuba diving is a pretty expensive proposition to begin with, that the cachers that could even qualify to search for this are used to paying fees just to go diving anyway. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
  20. How about the guy who went out geocaching alone. It was during the day, but the woods were not familiar to him. While crossing an open field of waist high grass he hears footsteps right behind him. Startled he truns quickly to find nothing. He writes it off to echos from the big cliff wall ahead. As he enters thicker woods at the base of the cliff the footsteps are back including snaping twigs and rustling brushes. the noises are always just out of his line of sight, but very close. Investigation has him convinced that had someone been at the location he heard the noises come from he would have seen them. There is nowhere to hide, yet he sees no-one. It is gloomy under the canopy of the trees, He is a little freaked. He turns to leave and stumbles over a wooden box he should have seen, were it there a momment ago. He finds himself lying in a slight depression next to a box with Stenciled letters on the side, he can read GEOCACHE. He thought he had a few hundred yards to go, but a quick check of his GPS shows him zero feet away with an accuracy of one foot. He knows he is *never* coming back here so he figures he will log the cache and leave. He brushes away the dust on the box and undoes the latch on the front. The sun must have gone behind a cloud because it gets much darker and colder and he stares into the box. The Contents are wrapped in oiled parchment and there are lots of cobwebs inside the box. As he unfolds the paper he sees the only contents of the package are a set a keys, but shivers run up his spine as he stares puzzled at the keys...they are his keys. Impossible! He moved to check the for the familar bulge in his pocket but it is missing! His thoughts are about to get very disconcerting when he hears the footsteps again, this time running at a pace directly at him from behind as he turns the lid of the box slams shut on his hand. The pain scares him more than hurts him, but it also distracts him. The lid seems much heavier now as if it is being pulled shut on his hand! He stuggles frantically to work himself free. With a final jerk the lid releases and he pulls loose. While sitting there rubbing his hand he realizes that it is now very dark and very quiet. He remembers the footsteps and starts to turn slowly, he seems to remember that while he was struggling with the box he could hear what he could only describe as a herd of footsteps coming through the underbrush. He continues turning for what seems like an eternity. He can feel the presence as he turns and he realizes that he is never going home again. He faces the empty clearing behind him no longer afraid. He looks down to the ground slowly removes his wallet and places them in the box with his keys. the box is closed and left out in the open where he found it. He walks slowly deeper into the woods, the sounds of footsteps all around no longer bother him. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette

  22. why not put a separator as part of your sig? (see below) ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
  23. Being 'Not fair' would to imply that there is some advantage to having a high found count. I contend that this is not the case. If you want to make it a competition you will have to be wary of comparing your 'score' to anyone with Team in thier name...I guess. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
  24. Unfortunately the distance will be reset to only 500 miles when you submit the query. ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
  25. I would like to have an eBook listing of all of the locationless caches. I am having trouble getting a query to return all of these at once. The problem stems from the fact that you are required to input a starting origin and that the maximum radius to search for is 500 miles. The nature of locationless caches do not lend themselves to this sort of query. Does anyone have any suggestions? ____________________________ The true traveler is he who goes on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time. - Colette
