  1. I ended up selling my Magellan because the customer service was so bad infact it is probably among the worst of any company i ever dealt with. I went with a Lowrance who had much better service although they tend not to be too technically minded when it comes to dealing with problems. Garmin is my latest unit and I had to call them on the first day of my new unit I had a 30 minute wait but when I got throught the staff were very knowledgable and helpful. I woud never go back to a Magellan. They even had a design fault in their Meridian's where many would have a loose battery door causing water to get into a waterproof unit. Thousands had this problem and Magellan wouldnt do a thing about it.
  2. I don't know what all this talk about changing the registry is about I didn't have to do that. All i did was create a folder in my documents and drag all the contents of the TOPO CD to it and installed it from the setup file in that folder. I then chose the source folder to install it to. AND Bingo! it works all 3 regions without the CD and no regedit.
  3. I don't know if performance with the LEI card reader is at all brand-sensitive. But I know the tendency of many users is to find a brand that works and stick with it. I've been buying SanDisk for a long time and never have any problems. I purchased a Kingston brand SD card for my H20 and it would not work. It seemed to register Ok and accept a map file but the GPS would not recognize it. Lowrance support suggesting trying another card so apparently the devices do have a card prefrence of some sort. (The Kingston card works fine in my PDA.) I also bought two Kingston cards at significant cost only to be told by Lowrance they don't work which is very annoying. Problem is I have wasted 2 of my 5 card registrations finding this out and Lowrances attitude was simply 'oh well'.
  4. I figure it is a neat idea and why not include interesting stuff such as historic data on the surrounding area. I even thought one time of putting a cut down version of my resume in some in the hopes of getting out of this prison cell of an office someday. I suppose it is like sex if you wear protection when using the CD (antivirus software) and a little common sense about where you are picking it up from you will be at no more risk than you are from emails etc.
  5. I have a Lowrance IFinder Hunt GPS unit for sale it was new this past Christmas (Dec 2005) and is in new condition. Excellent for Geocaching as it stores a huge number of waypoints etc. Can store unlimited amount of maps and data via SD Memory cards. I am selling the unit because I just learned that my parents have bought me the Color version for my upcoming Birthday in a couple of weeks not knowing I had just purchased the regular version. Pictures can be emailed on request and I can supply phone and address to anyone interested for discussion. The unit is packaged as the Plus Version but I am keeping the Topo Software and will ship it with car cable as it comes in the standard version. Price $180 shipped.
