  1. So I haven't been geocaching much lately because my young children didn't enjoy it. Now that they are a little older we are getting back into it again. My problem is, I went on vacation and forgot my Garmin at home and we'll be geocaching just with my Android phone. The GPS isn't too bad, I've done some caches with it and it's acceptable. My question is, are there any apps that add tracking to the standard android GPS? I hate not being able to map the trails I've walked (and I have to admit, on some of the more remote caches, I'm a bit scared of getting lost without my tracking). Any advice for me out there? Thanks!
  2. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Anderson. Cache on brother!
  3. I was wondering if anyone here has been caching in San Angelo State Park, TX. I was wondering how the caches are surviving the invasive species shrub removal. We were there last March and things were getting pretty messy. We'll be heading back down there sometime in the next 3-4 weeks. How's it look now?
  4. Amen! I recently found a cache that was ruined with multiple containers of leaky bubble soap. A stuffed animal left in the cache was soaked in it and the log book was a mess. Why in the world would anyone leave bubble soap in a cache! Knock, knock, is anybody home in there?
  5. I'm not mourning a specific TB, but all the TB's that have gone missing. It seems to me there are more missing TB's than ever before. I've seen so many caches that have a listing of 3-4 bugs in them and when you check on the cache there are no bugs. I have been going back and looking at the bugs history and find that they haven't been logged for 6 months or longer. It's disappointing, I love finding bugs and moving them along.
  6. I wish I had checked out the forum sooner! I only have time to geocache in the winter and I just checked back in today. I would have loved to enter a TB myself but since I'll be on the road very soon I won't have time to get a travel bug before I go. I hope to find and help move along all of your bugs! Happy Racing everybody!
  7. We used to go to my parents' house for Christmas every year. About 10 years ago we were at the house talking, playing with the kids' toys and having a jolly good time. Our Mom (not the best cook in the house, she burns boiled potatoes ) was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on the Christmas dinner after taking the turkey out of the oven to sit. I hopped up off the floor to help with the mashed potatoes (not burned this year!) when I saw to my horror one of their 8 house cats (it was one of the 3 black cats, I don't know which one) was eating the turkey! Just ripping and tearing into the meat like it hadn't had a meal in days. After much yelling and screaming the cat was closed into a bedroom to think about it's bad behavior and we were left to carve the parts of the turkey that were un-gnawed on. One brother-in-law refused to eat any turkey (he doesn't like cats at all and was completely disgusted). My sister then raised her glass to toast our Holiday and promptly said, "To the best Clurkey I ever had!" The rest of us asked, "What's clurkey?" She informed us that clurkey was cat-licked turkey. Now every year we toast the clurkey (even though we now eat our holiday meal at my sister's house! p.s. I just signed up for a premium membership! I am new to Geocoins and would love to get my first one!
  8. Thanks for the info! I've been considering becoming a premium member for a couple of years now. The only thing holding me back was the birth of my first baby (I'm a she not a he, lol, I wasn't sure how my son would fit into my geocaching hobby). My first question is about the software for downloading caches. I read the list of available free ware (and, even if I was rich, I wouldn't want to throw away good money!) is there one that is better than another? Do they all work with my GPS? Also, is this how they work . . . I download the freeware to my laptop and then I can download caches to my laptop and then load the caches onto my gps? Seems pretty ponderous if that's what you have to do. I'm waiting on delivery of the memory card and I haven't looked at buying maps yet.
  9. I'm stoked! I just ordered the Legend HCx. I've been researching what GPS to buy and decided to jump on this one. Any tips for me from experienced users?
