  1. Strange coincidence...I used to work at Survival Straps (www.survivalstraps.com) and made very similar things. My point wasn't to push their product but I actually left one of my straps in a cache just last week! I'm still waiting for someone to go find it but I hope it can help out the cacher that grabs it. Anyway, awesome signature item - there are a lot of creative things you can do with paracord and maybe the site can offer some inspiraton. I know I'd be happy to find one in a cache.
  2. Mountain biking and kayaking both go well with caching for me. I just wish there were more paddle accessible caches in my area.
  3. Not mine but mine looks a lot like it. '94 Cherokee Sport but unfortunately not a 4x4. She doesn't quite look as new though - orange and blue duct tape cover randomly distributed rust holes (Go Gators). Glad to see how many cachers are jeep drivers.
  4. I think either "Geo" or "Cache" could make a good pet name.
  5. Signature or no find. Though I guess that can vary too...Interestingly enough, I had a find today that was clearly in need of maintenance (missing a lid for waterproofing and likely not where it was intended to be) but I found and signed the log. When I logged it I checked "needs maintenance" so the CO could fix it but it didn't count as a find for me because I did so. I'll probably go back after it is fixed to log it as found.
  6. This helped me extend my membership by a month as well. Thanks!
  7. I would definitely make it pretty clear that the book was trackable. That BookCrossing website is a pretty interesting idea but I kind of like the idea of setting a goal for it and passing it from cacher to cacher (group of people I think would like the book). Time wouldn't be a huge issue as I'd prefer if people actually read it anyway. The size thing is a bit of a concern.
  8. So I'm about to get into caching and had an interesting idea. Could I use the code from a new Travel Bug to make a novel trackable? Ideally, someone would pick up the book, read it, and put it into a different cache and send it on its way - hopefully making it from coast to coast. Is my understanding of the travel code accurate? Also, were you to find a book (if you already have share the story) in a cache would you read it before passing it along? Would you leave it there if you didn't have any intention of reading it?
  9. I know what you mean. I usually pack a compass anyways so it doesn't seem worth the extra money.
  10. Great responses, thanks everyone. I plan on becoming a premium member once I get into it. Paperless caching is definitely a draw for me as I fancy myself as an environmentally friendly traveler and try to cut back on the amount of waste I create.
  11. Thanks for the prompt response, I'm definitely leaning toward getting one. Anyone disagree or have something to add?
  12. I've read a lot of the threads about this device and it seems like it would be good for my needs and I see that the updates seem to be solving the "sticky" issues (correct me if I'm wrong). I know some people who have struggled with it will be frustrated and be the first to warn people off of it. I guess my questions are as follows: with these potential problems, would you still recommend it to someone new to geocaching? Do the issues seem to be resolved? If not does it seem that they will be soon? Thanks for any help!
