  1. I hadn't really considered it since I know it's obsolete. I guess $50 + shipping? Just to make it worth selling and mailing. Like I said, it's only sentimental to me and I thought it might be an interesting addidtion to a collection. To be honest though, I'm not sure it would be a great starter for a boy (even though they can figure these things out easier than us). Not near as user friendly as the newer ones.
  2. Think we've beat this horse long enough....closing the thread. Thanks for all the input.
  3. Are you interested in my original GPSr? I have a Garmin GPS 50 that is about 10-12 years old. It still works as good as it ever did. It receives up to 8 satlellites, uses 4 AA batteries or cig lighter adapter. Doesn't have mapping or computer compatiblity as it predates that technology. I have the original box and manual and an external mag. mount antenna. It's taking up space here and only has sentimenal value to me, never use it. Let me know what it's worth and we'll talk. Kelly
  4. Those are good.....thanks for posting it. My Uncle had one of those big ol' cell phones; it worked out in the woods where the new ones still won't get a signal today. And I still have that TV!
  5. I'm curioius about this alarm clock issue..... I checked Garmin's webiite and on the comparison pages it says the 60CSx has the alarm clock. No mention of it in the manual. Anybody ask Garmin?
  6. With the discussion on the first Altimeter Worries thread and others, I'm pretty clear on the differences and pros and cons of the Baro VS GPS altitude. Thanks for all the input. The second part of my question remains: Has anybody ever had your Vista or other barometric altimeter fail? Garmin knew right away what was wrong with it, even had FAQs about it on their support pages, so it isn't an unheard of problem. They tried to fix it, and it did the same thing next time out and had to be replaced. I'm just trying to figure out how likely it is to happen again with a new unit. Something to do with the "cells" leaking. Does the 60CSx have exactly the same altimeter in it as the Vista? Or have they improved the system? When the baro portion quit, it didn't show a GPS altitude either, so I had no elevation at all. I don't want to spend $500 on a new 60CSx only to have a recurrence in a few months. If I could get the electronic compass without the altimeter, I would. I'm thinking of buying the 60Cx and carrying a wet compass that doesn't need batteries or calibration. GPS elevation is plenty accurate for my purposes. Thoughts?
  7. Let me ask this: Why is there so much talk about how inaccurate the GPS (none Baro) elevations are? If the GPSr is advertising, say, +/- 20' accuracy, why isn't that verical as well as horizontal? And if you have the baro version, that atuocalibrates itself, why isn't that fairly accurate?
  8. My opinion is get color if you're getting a mapping gps. Much easier to see all the time. Especially if you're nearing 40. You might consider heading over to the garage sale forum and looking around for a good used legend c or 60c.
  9. I have a Vista. I want a 60cx or 60csx. My problem in choosing is that the Vista altimeter died twice (said I was at 60,000+ ft), requiring me to send it back to Garmin for repair the first time and replacement the second time (no charge and new unit the 2nd time). I'd rather sacrifice the accuracy for reliability if the new ones aren't any better than the old ones but I'd like to get both. Does anybody have an opinion or experience to relate? I'd also like to relate that the Vista froze up completely a few months ago and Garmin couldn't fix it. They sent me another new or refurbished Vista for 1/2 the price of a normal repair. They couldn't transfer the data into the new one, but I had it all on the computer anyway. As good as the customer service is, I'm still disappointed with the overall reliability of the Vista. I've had to send it in 3 times in 3 years, and I only used it for the fall hunting seasons. I prefer Garmin over Magellan, but am a little gun shy. I was going for a legend C when I found out about the 60 series. Since I can't find any stories similar to mine, I'm thinking I just got a couple lemons. I'm planning on joining you folks in some geocaching soon. Thnaks for the pointers! Kelly
  10. I had the same issue with my Vista after I bought a new computer with no serial port. I bought an adapter at eBay that worked like a charm and saved a quite a few bucks. I'm not sure I'm supposed to put a link to an auction here. ?? But I'll be glad to tell you exactly what I bought if you contact me. Kelly
