  1. Well after playing with the GC-310 unit for a few days I just couldn't get it to show my "found" caches as found on the unit. I guess I could have gone through them all one by one but not interested in doing that. I see that when I marked a cache as being found the 310 created a new GPX file but I couldn't edit my "Found" .gpx file to match it. Also, the "Goto" compass page on the GC is better for my 5yo cacher who likes to hold the unit when hunting and can easily relate to the big compass screen. Interesting excersise anyway, thanks Savant9 for the tips too.
  2. Created a PQ of My Finds but still no luck getting the icons to show up correctly. Not too concerned about the total number, as you say, of little value. Should I remove all my previous caches from the unit and start again, maybe loading the "My Finds" first? Any advice greatly appreciated. Bill
  3. done the conversion, thanks Savant9. I love my GC and so does my 5yo Daughter. Now i just need to move the file that told the GC what caches i had found so they show up as found on the new 310. Any suggestions apprecaited. Bill
  4. I don't think it's an issue with the GPS unit itself, more like a problem with the communicator software or something like that. Regardless, the method I posted above is very easy, so see if that works for you. The GC is a kickass unit, I have had mine for a few weeks and it is the ants pants for Paperless Geocaching. Stick with it and sort out the bugs. Good luck
  5. Found this Angry Bird and let him loose. TB48V4T Wrire a note and let him know what you think of him. How far do you think he'll get with his attitude? Aussiegoldminer

  7. Hi all I have just bought a Toshiba e750 PDA and cannot connect to a wireless service. Can someone tell me what should happen when I am in the vicinity of a public access service? Does a little box pop up to tell me when i can connect, do i have to change any settings? I am in Sudbury Ontario where there are not too many Wi-Fi hotspots and am not too sure what the heck I am supposed to be seeing. thanks in advance Bill (aussiegoldminer)
  8. My clients (geologists) send me co- ords of hole collars in an Excel spreadsheet. I pasted the northings and eastings into MapSource waypoints then saved them. Later i wanted to move them all 225m north so opened the list of waypoints in Excel. Ozi Explorer would only export in DDD.DDD.ddd format instead of UTM. I then tried exporting the waypoints out of EasyGPS which appeared ok in excel but when i tried to open them in EasyGPS i got the in/out error message. no matter what i tried it would not work. Is there a program or Excel add in that lets me first import the list from Excel adn then adjust them later. Any advice greatly appreciated Bill Stewart
  9. Im an expat aussie, now in canada and finding the routing software invaluable for negotiating the horrific freeway network in Toronto! Any suggestions?
  10. i own a Vista and am looking for some autorouting software that so i can crete a route, then download it to the Vista. At present i have MS Map Point which is great, prints out a fantastic set of direction but doesn't export to the GPS. Thanks in advance
  11. Fuel usage calculator for those long miles i do here in Australia. With a few basic fields to enter, there would be a heap of information that you could gain from this addition.
  12. Canada roads and rec for Garmin worldmap CD. I am an australian soon to be working in Canada and would appreciate either swapping or buying the Canadian maps. Thanks in advance.

  14. YOu are correct, where there is no basemap, getting a more expensive unit is a waste of money. This basic unit will do all you want, without the electronic compass. No, you don't have to be moving for it to work! It will remember waypoints. You can home in on co-ordinates without problem and it will get you to within 10m. Download EasyGPS from this site for waypoint management.
  15. Like the style, but i got a vista already. Im sure you will sell easily, but i'd want steak knives too! Maybe something to consider?
  16. Possibly the partially used one for $175. I hope you understand that it will cost me some to get it to australia, hence the lower offer. tell me what you think Aussiegoldminer
  17. I'm now using different software so if anyone wants to buy this Garmin compatible CD, drop me a line!
  18. I recon you should throw away the keyboard, memorise what ehe keys are and use it like that. At least it won't get stolen
  19. I've only been a member for a few weeks adn am wondering where their marketing research came from? Does anyone remember filling out any online surveys? Maybe their research came from Goecaching.com's online pols. Possibly another violation of some kind!!
  20. Would like to meet up, could it be somewhere half way to Kalgoorlie!
  21. If anyone wants to buy a Garmin from the US, i'll sell them the Mapsource CD. I have loaded the maps that i want into my Vista and don't need the CD anymore!
  22. True, safetracgps don't sell Magellan so you will have to find a retailer yourself, but if you go for one of the smaller sellers, you can get them to hide the invoice deep inside the box, label it as a gift and thus you won't pay tax on the first AU200. There is an import duty of about AU60 plust gst on the amount above AU200. Shipping from the US cost me about AU60. Whatever way you do the sums, it is still cheaper to import it, especially for the more expensive units!
  23. is allthe data entered in Geocache sites in decimal format, ie. hddd"mm.mmm or dms, ie. hddd"mm'ss.s" thanks
  24. A friend of mine here in Australia has to drive for 1hr 20mins to reach the nearest road, then another 3 hours to the nearest town, if you can call it that! Go for it.
