  1. I'm planning on leaving some travel bugs, imitation gold coin pieces, and other neat things in the first caches I will soon be releasing. I just hope they don't fill up with bottle caps.
  2. What about publishing pictures of noteworthy cache containers? I'd like to do this without revealing their locations.
  3. I'll check it out. I've been recently infected with the GeoCaching bug and will start blogging about it soon.
  4. Phew, there are some nasty caches in these pictures. My worst find was on a cliff over looking a river where the container had been compromised. All that remained was soggy contents in an open plastic bag. What made it worse was the hours I spent looking for it.
  5. I was a little taken back yesterday when I found a CD (still shrink-wrapped) of some minister's sermon. Can't think of a better example of self-promotion. I'm of two minds about business cards. On one hand, I'm disgusted by lousy contents, and a biz card is just another way to trash the cache. On the other hand, I'm planning on releasing four caches in the near future and leaving biz cards in a small container would be a way for people to contact me and leave feed-back.
  6. Used it to find a cache today. It performed a lot better than the Ap on my Android phone once I got within 45 feet. The ground cover and the location (on a hillside overlooking a river)made the Ap quarky.
  7. I'm planning on releasing four travel bugs in the next few weeks. Any idea what sort of item attached to the tag stands the best chance for survival? I have these around-the-world trip ideas. Ever see the book or movie PADDLE TO THE SEA? That's how I think of a travel bug.
  8. Fascinating stuff here. I'm working on a Camouflage idea myself and am looking for ideas. The real trick seems to be finding a way to hide something all year round in a temperate zone.
  9. I've just started and am wondering what challenge to pursue as well. Finding the average LPC does get a little dull. Double when they seem to be full of happy meal toys. Part of me wants to pursue only the most difficult hides, but one does have to be realistic.
  10. I try to document every find with a picture from my phone camera. There are some very fascinating containers out there. I don't post the container, but I do post the contents. It's also a way for the CO to keep track of the cache.
  11. Travel bugs are one of the things which got me interested in GeoCaching. dadgum shame so many have gone MIA.
  12. Just bought one today and will probably use it in conjunction with my Android phone's GPS (I bought the Groundspeak Ap). I figure it's a good unit to learn and will get a better one if the budget permits.
  13. Awesome. Gives noobs like me inspiration.
  14. Here's a picture of how I made the signature items from Unnameable: The two grey disks are both sides of the prototype. I poured a clear epoxy of each after putting them at the bottom of a plastic tube. The tube and image face were both coated with silicone gel to prevent sticking. After the clear epoxy had cured, it was easy to remove it from the original prototype (a positive image). You put a small disk of uncured unnameable between each negative pieces and apply pressure, using a plastic tube to keep them in line. Pull back to create your very own signature item which can be trimmed, sanded or painted. Here's a picture of Unnameable rolled out flat between two sheets of polyethylene film: You can use any polymer clay for this as long as it has the right viscosity. And here's how I cut out the individual disks: I'm looking forward to seeing what others can do with polymer clay.
  15. Yes, there are several brands of those at the hobby stores in multiple colors. Actually a cute idea and not very expensive, I might have to make some myself! Just shape and bake... Now that is a good idea. Plenty of other compounds out there to use besides Unnameable.
  16. Nah. I kinda like the idea of calling it "Unnameable". Downright Lovecraftian. Beats calling it "Brand X".
  17. And, where possible, I have been editing out the name of the compound I used to make these signature items since some people have questioned my integrity. Anyone seeing the original name of the compound, just try to ignore it.
  18. OK. Going through all of my posts and editing out the name of the compound I use to make the signature items.
  19. Thanks. No, Unnameable never gets totally rock hard. There is always just a tiny bit of give to it to avoid cracking. I'd expound on it more, but I've already been accused of trying to use this forum to promote my product. As far as artistic ability, I have less than zero and was able to make the prototype with no sculpting tools in about two hours. But then I'm the kind of guy who will slog two miles into a swamp just to find a cache.
  20. I've got plenty of Unnameable to make signature items. If I had a metal shop, I'd be making them out of stainless steel. Unless you have unlimited funds, creative people use the materials available.
  21. Here's the latest batch of ahem signature items I've created: The coins were stamped out of Unnameable, then painted by a gold effect paint. I wasn't sure about using this "metallic" paint as I doubt it has any metal in it all, but I was curious what the final result might be.
  22. I see. To be considered a geocoin it has to have a trackable number from geocaching.com.
