  1. OMG, how ironic, there must be 500 posts in this thread! As many posts as caches on the ground. Figured there'd be hubbub about the jeep power trail. Now I'm not a forum guy, just a boots on the ground cacher. I've hiked over a 13,000 foot Sierra pass 3 times (at 400 miles from home) to get a 5 year unfound cache for FTF, GCADCB http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...2d-6fcc6d055035 and another 3 trips 400 miles from home to the remotest mining district in California, to get a belated STF, GCDE7F http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...70-557b4a5bdbc1 . Got trapped by snow, Donner Party style on the last one. Both adventures shared with Ranboze. Have also power cached with Alamogul, EMC, the VK, dgreno, and DT21&FW. So here's a boots on the ground report on TOTG. Strike while it's hot, the Geocachers of the Bay Area crew was mpj303, geoides, & bthomas. We packed up 1 vehicle (no leapfrog), and departed on the 8 hour drive from NorCal to SoCal. We started right away in the dark around midnight, and cached away as the Big Dipper spun around and the Sun later leaped across the sky. On the horizon, snow capped the top of Mt Charleston near Vegas and Telescope Peak above Death Valley. The desert was pretty in that raw desert way. We cached 34/hr when the road was Subaru-able with quick pull throughs, and 10/hr when the road was a low-intermediate jeep track or when we climbed some knoll or arroyo. We exited once to gas (at the World's Tallest Thermometer virt). Geoides had aerial photos loaded on his PN-40, and that cued us on access in the maze of jeep roads, service roads, motorcycle trails, and burro tracks. We came to the 400 milestone in the 23rd hour, on the cold, wind swepted 5000 foot pass west of Primm. It was a great team and we had so much geo-fun. Ended with 402 or 403 and opted for a 23 hour record. We arrived the day Orange County PC's wrapped 436, and we also came across Coach Steve's 464 group. When his Utah group had 350 caches eastbound, to our 300 westbound, we knew we should've started at the easier end instead of skipping it. As mjp303 wrote on the GBA forum, "Power caching is more about time management, teamwork, and endurance, plus being able to make good decisions consistently when you're mentally and physically tired. It's one of the many 'variations' of geocaching, and that makes the game fresh and interesting for me." Nice review of the power trail! I need to find some time to hit it.
  2. A lot you guys are butt hurt over something that doesn't affect you. Go out, find a cache, and have some fun.
  3. I have driven up and down that stretch of I-15 many, many times and I can't wait to hit that trail. This power trail is nothing. NGA has a 1,000 cache power trail in the works. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&Submit6=Go
  4. I have Blackberry Curve on Sprint and it works fine for me like it normally does. I have tried it using bot the Blackberry brower and Opera.
  5. I would like bookmarks to increase in size. I have quite a few bookmarks at the 500 limits.
  6. I have a new PQ that I created 12 hours ago and it has not run yet.
  7. If you click preview are there any results? I had plenty of results in preview. The weird part is that I have never had this issue before with Gmail.
  8. This morning I had 4 PQs run, but I only received three of them. I checked the SPAM folder for the missing one and it wasn't there. Is there any way I could get it resent by Groudspeak? The PQ in particular is #3601524.
  9. I'm just glad I can run any browser I want at work. I run both Windows and Mac machines.
  10. Technically it is not on Earth.
  11. I think it is cool that Groundspeak had to have a guideline on this.
  12. I tried in three browsers and still no luck getting it to break. Can you try another browser? Delete some cookies maybe? I'm sure there is something to the fact it's Jeremy's list (User #3 in the DB), but danged if I know what it is. By the way, the Jeremy account doesn't own a bookmark list with that name. Hmm... Edit: I created a PQ from the list for you in the meantime. Visit your PQ page to schedule it. Nate, here is a link to other instances of this issue. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=4198833
  13. For the first one, you need to be a Premium Member of the site, run the 'My Finds' pocket query on the pocket query page, install GSAK and the FindStatGen macro (see gsak.net for both of these), run the macro, and copy and paste the HTML to an area on your profile page.
  14. So I take it that "Trimble", the makers of Geocache Navigator are a trusted parnter? And are probably paying a nice fee to use the API? (since they charge a monthly fee to use their software, which I find insane, you should only have to pay once, and maybe pay for significant upgrades) I'm a software developer, and am currently playing around with writing a GPS application for windows mobile phones in my spare time, and would love to integrate it with the Geocaching database. Hence the reason why Groundspeak hasn't released a geocaching app for the Blackberry. It's about $ coming from Trimble to use the API.
  15. I have had a similar issue that comes and goes in Firefox. This one preexists the current release problems.
  16. It's the programmers weekend. There won't be any progress today. Wait till tomorrow. Do you work for Groundspeak or speak for Groundspeak? I'm getting a little tired of forum users stepping up and speaking for Groundspeak. Let's let Groundspeak speak for Groundspeak! P.S. I've been in the IT business for 25 years and if I had been a part of this kind of release I would not have had a weekend. It's different, I suppose, when you have a monoply. Nobody I know that works in IT uses IE let alone version 6.
  17. I'd like to try that.... any settings or the like you could furnish? Thanks. I didn't set any specific settings, I just installed both apps. After playing with it for about a week I have seen that it is not perfect by any means but it works. I do get the occasional crash and I do have one GSAK macro that doesn't work. I am going to check this trial version out before I commit to it.
  18. I just downloaded the trial version of crossover and was able to get GSAK running on it with no issues.
  19. The search forum functionality really sucks. I tried searching yesterday on the new GPX upload. That of course failed because GPX is less that five. At one point it required atleast 3, not sure why they changed it. Also the searches bring up a lot of false positives.
  20. Hardly: August 2009 Mobile Metrics Report When you consider that this report is for August and the Droid, which in most recent measurements accounts for 24% of the Android market now, didn't even hit the market until November, it's easy to see that Android is taking off and has surpassed BB (RIM), which is steadily losing its market share. My guess is that the reason Groundspeak has not developed a BB app is pure business. The creator, Trimble, advertises the product on GC.com. That means revenue. If Groundspeak releases a competing free version on the BB that would kill advertising dollars, and that is not even taking into account the development dollars dedicated to creating a BB app or any money Trimble could be paying to access the geocaching API.
  21. This issue has happened again tonight.
  22. By happenstance I tried viewing these bookmarks in IE, instead of Firefox 3.5, and they opened up fine. After clearing Firefox's cache and logging back in, it opened up fine. I guess GC had a hiccup and corrected itself. All I needed was to clear everything out and try again.
  23. I am having owner mitmatch issues with two bookmarks of mine, I first had this issue back in October, but it later resolved itself. See http://tiny.cc/SPihU Now it appears to be back. The first one, when I click on the link from my bookmark page I get taken to a shared bookmark owned by another user. This bookmark contains some of my bookmarked caches with some of my notes but it also contains other caches. I can only edit the ones I know I added, but I can't delete any of them. Also pagination does not work, so if I wanted to get my cache notes to recreate the bookmark, I can't do that. On the second bookmark below, when I attempt to open that, I get an error saying I don't have permission to open it. Groundspeak, can you help me out here? Thanks, in advance. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...ad-5d82bb13e5a1 http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...20-65586abe2314
