  1. Slith, I came across this post and thought you might be interested - hide-and-seek game See you in February.
  2. After a little prodding, my partners in mischief helped me set up the Orlando Airport TB Hotel. It is ~2 miles from the airport, easy in and out, and right behind our office. A few weary travellers are resting before their next moves. Rates are cheap - we hope to do lots of business this year. Cache on!
  3. Here it is - Orlando Airport TB Hotel Let's hope we get lots of customers. Thanks, everyone, for pointing me in the right direction.
  4. When you get there, you'll notice that it has the most recent 1000 pictures. Wonder where the rest of them went?
  5. The local paper sent a reporter to watch a cache being placed. The resulting story hooked a lot of people (including myself). On an unrelated note, it's disturbing to see how many people mentioned Wil Wheaton's site. I mean, have you seen this? If I never see him on TV or in film again it will be too soon.
  6. I found an old Devo compilation tape in a cache one day. Just for grins, I took it and played it as I drove home. You know what, it has become my music for driving to caches - who would have guessed? Some of the songs are mediocre but some of them are exceptional (assuming that you can appreciate Devo).
  7. I want to know what a Clown Knife is. Can I buy mine at the circus next spring?
  8. I agree that's it hard sometimes to find the right person to ask. But I have also seen many caches that were confiscated because the owner neglected to ask permission. I know of several caches in cemeteries (modern and historical). There should be some sort of caretaker's office on the property. Start there; if no one's home, leave a note asking them to call you. For other public sites, try the local parks department for a contact person. On the other hand, you could place it without asking and hope that the finders don't make enough of a mess to draw attention to it. I know that there are other threads on the ethics of this subject. Perhaps someone can Markwellingly (adverb ) point us in the right direction. Good luck.
  9. A interesting request - I retrieved a Canadian postcard from a cache in Florida and the owner wants me to mail it to somebody. If you want it, send me your address and I'll see that you get it. [This message was edited by Blue Man on December 23, 2002 at 02:35 PM.]
  10. I used my Garmin 12XL to kill a roach last weekend. Those things are full of goo!
  11. Actually, I know of some areas for the physical cache. I'm just not sure about what is required from the owner (me) in order to maintain it.
  12. My office is only a few miles from the Orlando airport. I'm intrigued by the idea of operating a travel bug hotel, but am not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions?
  13. quote:Originally posted by enfanta: quote: Look for birds spread out in a big circle, not all bunched up together. If they are all bunched together and my accuracy is higher than 20 feet, I won't use those coordinates here on the website. Now I need to look for birds when setting a cache?? This sport gets more complex every day... I think the term "bird" should not be taken too literally. I would use the term "harbinger of doom" instead. If I see a large flock of evil-looking things hovering over my cache site, I assume that it won't be there too long after I leave. I always try to place my caches in areas with singing chipmunks and dancing rabbits.
  14. I keep taking my cat with me, but so far the containers haven't been large enough for him to fit in.
  15. I say leave it up to the cache owner. I don't see anything wrong with a cache like this, as long as the description let's people know what kind of cache (business) it really is. I wonder why the owner hasn't responded. Too strung out on espresso?
  16. I appreciate the insight, Mr. Toe. I guess the problem was the former, not the latter.
  17. I reported the same experience to Jeremy and he said he "would look into it". Hmm.
  18. I was trying to include a web address in the description of my travel bugs, but I can't seem to enter the correct information to make a clickable link appear. I've tried the procedure outlined to make a clickable link in the forum posts, which works fine, but it doesn't work on the travel bug page. Is this a user error or website problem (am I a total idiot or did the programmers really screw it up this time)?
  19. OK, i tried everything that was suggested for creating links and images in the forums, but it doesn't work on my travel bug pages. Are those pages formatted differently or did I miss something? I want several links to appear in the description of my TB, Dancing Crane. Any and all help will be appreciated. Sarcastic criticism will be tolerated as long as actually helpful. Top of The Mount works in the forums but not the TB page.
  20. I recently stumbled across the page for all the images that have been posted to the site - travel bugs, cache logs, etc. Now, I can't figure out how to get back to it. Can anyone throw me a bone here? Thanks.
  21. It's always interesting to find someone else's trinkets, but I seem to find caches where it looks as if someone reached under their car seat and extracted whatever was lurking there, only to deposit in the cache in trade for some item of excellence. Some people never change, I guess.
  22. I just discovered that the Orange County Parks Department is prohibiting the placement of all caches in their parks. They have some kind of paranoid terrorism vision, espacially when ammo cans are used. I am on my way to retrieve several confiscated caches from their office and will try to return them to the owners. These folks can't see the forest for the trees - I have discovred several new parks as a result of geocaching. What a waste.
  23. Thanks for all the info. I checked everyone out and decided on the Ideal stamp from Stamp Man. I'll be wheresgeorge-ing like crazy from now on.
