Well our crew has been busy lately. Our district just had their spring "Hikoree" the Venturing crew placed several caches along the trail and had a short class about geocaching before the hike. The scouts all loved it. There were 88 scouts in attendance and they all found at least one of the caches. Next month we are hosting an event cache. Go Get Outdoor @ Carl T. Johnson Center . It's will be a geocaching 101 class for anyone to attend. This is a cooperative effort with the Michigan Geocaching Organization and the Michigan DNR.

Some of the crew got together today to package the rest of the coins. Yes, yours is in the batch. It will be going out in the mail tomorrow morning. Thank you everyone for your patients.

We want to apologize to anyone that hasn't received their coin yet. We got about half of them mailed before we ran out of envelopes. Some of the crew will be getting together this weekend to package the rest. Most of the the Michigan orders didn't go out with the first batch because we didn't know who would b at the Turkey Trot Tree. They are all at the top of the list for this batch.

A year ago our Venturing Crew was chartered by Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO). We've had quite a year... We've taught geocaching to boy scouts, found some caches, hid some caches, attended events, and hosted events. Now we are in the process of minting our own coin. (see it here) We would love to see more crews like ours but so far we haven't heard from any other crews with geocaching as it's theme. This is a roll call!! If you're involved in a Venturing crew that does geocaching we'd love to hear from you. If there are, we might be able to coordinate some activities together. (maybe at a mega event)

Payment has been made to get production started on these. However we still need about 40 more preorders before we can pay the balance and start delivery. These would be a great gift for any geocacher that is a scout...or a scout that is a geocacher.

It's a couple dollars more than you would normally pay but it is a fundraiser after all. We have to raise those funds somehow.

My guess would be about 3-4 weeks from now. (late November) It will depend on how fast we get the preorders. They will start being minted soon (minting will take 2 weeks). However, we'll need at least 100 preorders before we can pay for the coins and start delivery. As of today we have 43 preorders sold.

I admit I'm guilty...not all my hints are useless. I only do it with caches that are easy finds (one star difficulty) Sometimes I they fit the theme of the cache. Example: A Monty Python Quest for the Holy Grail themed cache Hint:"Brother Maynard, bring up the holy hand grenade." Just something silly to add to an otherwise simple find.

We just started a Venturing Crew that is chartered by Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO). The obvious theme of the crew is geocaching. We are brand new but we are off to a good start. We have 12 youth members, 4 advisors and 4 committee members. We attended our first event last month as a crew. At the end of the month we will be attending another where we will have our "official" charter presentation to MiGO. Last weekend we hosted a geocaching station at our district klondyke derby. It was very well recieved and it was a great promotion for the crew and geocaching. Plans are in the works for us to host a CITO event this spring, and several area scouting units have asked us to do a geocaching presentation at their meetings. We are not limited to just geocaching, this is a youth run organization, whatever the crew does is the decision of the members as long as it is withing the scouting guidelines.
