  1. Hello Unfortunately my son didnt quite take to Geocaching, we have two trackables here that need sending on, I had totally forgotten about them, so apologies to those who they belong to, but hopefully they should soon be on their travels! Would anyone like to take these off me and drop them in a cache so they can carry on their journey?
  2. Found a trackable today, entered the tracking number which took me on to the trackable's page where on the left hand side it shows a different code and says use this to reference this item, when I click log it it then asks for the tracking code which I presume is the code on the trackable itself that I entered in the first place? What is the reference code for?
  3. Thank you, in fact thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to post.
  4. Finally found 1 http://coord.info/GC29RJD One question, I uploaded a gallery image, I cant for the life of me find anywhere to edit or remove this image if I so wish, I take it you can?
  5. Thank you for your advice, we are out on the hunt tomorrow morning, I will post the results here
  6. Thanks We are on a mission Saturday morning, there are another three within a couple of miles and hopefully we should find at least one, we are not going home until we have. The main thing is he is looking forward to going and to be honest so are me and the missus - happy days
  7. Thanks for your help, we will go and have a look on Saturday morning, I will let you know how we got on
  8. It's all a bit confusing though at the moment, I have a choice of.... hddd.ddddd hddd mm.mmm' hddd mm'ss.s" When things start getting too complicated it sort of starts taking the fun out of things
  9. I'm quite at home with the BNG, I have been hiking for a number of years now. The only difference between that and this is with hiking you dont often find yourself crawling around on all fours looking for a 35mm film canister What we have decided to do if the bad luck continues is for us to hide one for him
  10. You can also download the excellent maps from Martin (talkytoaster on here) He uses the excellent map data from OSM, I use the OS 50 thousand scale look and feel on my etrex 20 and they work a treat and look superb, they are also very clear when you zoom in as opposed to the Ordnance survey maps that look terrible in my opinion! http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm
  11. @sussamb We are definitely in the right place I'm going to have another try tomorrow afternoon for the one in the park near me (GC1QEH7), I'm currently mapping it for OSM so I can kill 2 birds with one stone. And thanks everyone for your continued hints and tips!
  12. Well as I said before GC1QEH7 is 5 minutes away, I have just set it to WGS84 and it took me to the same spot as BNG! Thanks for the Info though about the meet
  13. Thanks for all your replies, the caches we have tried to find so far have had a difficulty rating of 1-1.5, and we have been reading the encrypted clues beforehand. My GPSr is a Garmin etrex 20, at the moment it is set to British Grid, it seems to be accurate enough though. Take yesterday for example (GC1AAFC) the clue was 'end of railings' there is also a reference to nettles, my GPS pointed us right slap bang to the end of some railings, the ground sloped up towards the railings to a point (funnily enough behind a small patch of nettles) at one point I was lying on my side next to this point rooting around and there was nothing, this was last found on the 19th of February. We also tried GC1QEH7 which is literally 5 minutes walk from us, the clues located on a path going down the side of a stream, 'in the V of an Ivy covered tree', once again the GPS took us to the path going down to the stream and right slap bang up to a tree covered in Ivy, we searched all over!
  14. Well we have been out with our 5 year old son on three seperate occasions trying to find three different local caches and found none. After the third one today which involved a 3 mile walk he asked me if I was pretending that there was something there!! We searched all over for whatever it is we were searching for. I dont kmow whether it's us doing something wrong or there just isnt anything there and we have had an unlucky start. Do you get more clues if you become a paid member?
