  1. I went ahead and bought an USB cigarette lighter adaptor and tried it out. I found one online and had it delivered for under 10 and since my wife didn't want me to spend more I went ahead with it. I have to say it works great. I have used it a lot now and last week we went on vacation and I used it for 5 hours straight with no problems. Hope this helps out. by the way I have a 60cx
  2. As a newbie to Geo caching I was wondering if you could draw out a scenario explaining how one would change over to a manual compass to finish finding the cache? I have a 60CX and a Silva compass but havn't used either to geocache yet. I was sort of wandering the same thing. I have the 60cx and have found caches but you have to keep walking to get the bearing. Do you simply change the bearing on the manual compass as you get closer? Just wandering how others use their manual compass or simply use it as a backup just in case
  3. I am not sure about the legend cx but I know the 60cx has a limit on the amount of maps you can load. I think it is 2025 segments. I have city navigator and topo and I have loaded almost the whole eastern usa for navigator and all of pa, and a large circle around pa in other states and filled the 1GB card. So I think it depends on the amount of segments. If you have city select then it will be harder to fill the card since you will have to use more map segments. Hope this helps.
  4. You could load some POI with the poi loader from garmin.
  5. I have been trying to figure out a way to keep the geocaches in PA updated. I run a placed with in the last month querie, then I run an inactive querie, but what I can't figure out is how to figure out when a cache is inactive to active how do I get to know. What kind of querie should I set up for this? Thanks.
  6. I would have to say Cityselect is your best bet. Navigator has the larger fragments. Cityselect has the smaller ones. As for metroguide I don't know to much about it but I do not think it can autoroute unless it is an early version.
  7. For color you could try and find the gpsmap 60c. It has an external jack for an antenna which should help with reception. Also it has an usb and serial connection. I looked around and you can get a new one for around 300. The 60cx will run you about 370-380. You could also look at the non color gpsmap 60. It has all the same features as the 60c except for color and a little less memory. I am not sure about how good it handles signals. Sorry. But I think with an external antenna that would help. Just me two cents.
  8. I was just wandering if anyone has tried a cigarette usb adapter to power their 60cx. I am trying to find a cheap way to power my new unit in the car. Anyone try this? Thanks in advance.
  9. I have a 60cx. This is my first unit but I have to say I love the autorouting feature. Sure voice prompts would be nice but it does flash the turn before you get there. Then the turn comes up and you can see yourself going through the turn. I find it very efficient. Also to be able to take it outside and use it for other things is great. Guess you have to decide if you want to pay the money just for a car unit or make a few small sac. for an all around unit. I do not find the screen small at all. Also I like that fact that I can remove it from my car easily making it easier to hide from thiefs.
  10. I will give you an example how the 60cx works. I am pretty sure all the other handheld units do the same. They do not talk. When you are about .2 miles away from a turn it will beep and it will flash the turn that you will make. Then when you get really close to the turn it will beep again and the turn will come up. The unit will show your car when it is making the turn. It is pretty nice since the arrow shows how sharp the turn is. This is my first unit and I love the autorouthing feature.
  11. Over the weekend me and my wife were out and I got a lock on 35 on my 60cx. The D appeared on the sat. page. A week before that I was out and got a lock on 33. I am near pittsburgh pa. I do not see it all the time but have been picking it up lately. Sometimes I will see the 35 come and go but never get a lock. But I can get a lock also. Just my 2 cents.
  12. I have downloaded waypoints as loc files and saved them to my gps. What I would like to do though is download them as waypoints or POI either one and have the hints in the comment box or saved somewhere that I can access them on my gps. I do not have a pda and do not really think I want to get one. Is it possible to do this using the loc files or do I have to use the gpx files. I have a garmin 60cx. Thanks in advance.
  13. Be sure that it's not in "Battery Saver" mode. There have been reports that affects the accuracy of the new models more than it did the older ones. That is what I was going to suggest checking on. Battery Saver mode does affect accuracy. I played around with it. When I have it on normal mode I can get like 12 feet. With Battery Saver mode it jumps up to like 60 feet standing in the same spot. I would check that.
  14. That is a good idea. Will have to try it out when I get home. Thanks for the help.
  15. I was looking at car mounts on ebay and saw some mounts that hook up to your air vents. These seem to be the cheapest way to go but wanted some thoughts on them or if anyone has tried them out. Just got a new 60cx and CN and am looking to save some money since the wife has hinted that I have spent enough. Still would like to squeeze in a car mount and car adapter though so any ways to get them cheap would be appreciated.
  16. Have to agree. I have a 60cx and got an invisibleshield. Very easy to put on and I can see the screen perfect. Very nice product.
  17. Just had a quick question and thought someone on this thread could help out. I was playing around with easy gps to download some cache points. My question is...is there any way to download them onto my gps without naming the GXXXX. I would rather have them come up as the lable or some other name. Any way of doing this without renaming all of them??

  19. Mine is on the way. Should be getting it tomorrow from lakepowell. Did you email phil? That is who I have been in contact with about my order and he is on top of it.
  20. Just wanted to say that I do not work for them either. I have been around for a week or so just never posted since I wasn't sure which gps to get. I will be around for now one. Probably asking questions when I get my unit. I will let everyone know how it goes. Later!
  21. New here but wanted to say a few words. I was looking for my first gps and was going to go with the legend cx until I found out that it didn't have the sirfIII. I still can't believe Garmin went this route. Then I talked myself into adding an extra 100 now insted of upgrading later on and get the gpsmap60cx. I hope that it will be worth it. Anyways I was at work and checked out http://www.lakepowellmarineelectronics.com/ and saw the 60cx on sell. By the time I got home it was back up to 450. I contacted Phil as advised on this forum and he got back to me within minutes. He brought the price back down. I placed the order and hope to have it soon. This is some of the best service that I have seen. Can't wait to start caching.
