  1. Archived caches can also be brought up through the recently viewed tab. Click on your username in the top right and a list of choices will appear across the top (left to right) starting with Quick View (which will be bolded as that is the default view). Select Recently Viewed which is about 4 or 5 choices to the right. A list of the 20 or so most recently viewed caches by you will present to the page. At the top of the list will be a search box where you can enter a GC code if known. This will take you right to that cache page. This can only be done if you know the GC number. If you do not know the number you will need to use Project-GC to find it. Once you are on the cache page you can log it if not locked like others have mentioned. I just recently found a cache that had been archived for 2+ years and claimed a find. It was a puzzle that was archived due to some of the waypoints no longer being available. I had solved it prior to archive. The real draw for me to look for it was twofold. I was near it looking for another cache and there was a travel bug in I wanted to rescue. Mission accomplished. Travel Bug rescued and geo-litter removed.
  2. There are lots of country and state souvenirs being award. Some are UK, France, CA, and UT that I have seen.
  3. So if you log one of these does your new souvenir and D/T combo stand or will this all be deleted tomorrow? Anyone know?
  4. Offline lists are now available in the app but it looks like you still need to create them on the website first. In the Classic app I could add caches on the fly to an offline list right from the app. Is this available?
  5. Having never set a trackable free as I think it would be a very disappointing experience, why would someone put one out there as 'collectible'? The info I've read says if you find one set as collectible you can keep it. So then what's the point? Am I missing something? This video doesn't really explain the collectible part, it only states you should help it on its goal unless otherwise specified by the owner. No need to explain to me how trackables work, I understand all that. My main question here is why would you set the preference to collectible and then set it free?
  6. Thank J Grouchy! I guess I'll just have to get used to it. I still prefer in the classic app that you can see the posted coords as well as any additional waypoints as orange flags all on the same screen. Maybe this app will one day offer that.
  7. Wouldn't it also be nice if there was consistency in the sizes from app to website. Micro on site = XS on app and Regular on site = Medium on app. I can see where players would be confused.
  8. I am currently trying to get used to the 'new' app. I'm a fan of the classic one but am trying to figure out how this new one works so I'm ready if it becomes the only app available to me. This post is not to start a debate on which app is better but rather to get some help on how to find the posted coords for a solved puzzle using the 'new' app. I have solved the puzzle and updated the cache page. The posted, original coords are the parking. How do I find these coords now? If I hit start to find the cache it takes me to the solved. The only waypoint listed is my solved coordinate. Anyone have any help they can offer on how to find the original coordinates using this app? I'm sure it's right in front of my face but I can't find it. The pin is still at the original until I hit start but I'd like to know the numbers. Thanks in advance.
  9. I find the new app a bit disappointing. I can't save caches to offline lists. I can't post field notes which really stinks for those of us who don't like to log on the fly. And new cache notifications no longer open to any app they just go to GC.com. Has anyone else noticed this and how can I make it open to an app again? I'm sure I could get used to the new one eventually but it would be nice to have all the features I paid for and used on this new app. Also, how do you access your personal cache notes? Also would be nice to see at a glance last time found. Oh and one more complaint. The color variation between traditional and mystery is way too similar. It is very hard to distinguish between the two.
  10. With more players creating play anywhere Wherigo's, this would also be handy on this type of cache as well. If there is a geo-art of Wherigo's it is hard to tell which have been solved and which need yet to be completed. It would also make it easier to use the new filtering as I could then filter by that type and those that do not have corrected coordinates.
  11. Thanks for those links noncentric. I figured I couldn't be the only one wishing for this feature.
  12. Does anyone know how to update the coordinates for a Wherigo that you have played in advance? A mystery cache will let you change them using the little pencil but I don't see this option available on a Wherigo cache page. This would be useful to me so I could update the coordinates and then filter a list of Wherigo's by owner that do not have corrected coordinates so I know which still need to be solved. Without this feature it is hard to tell which have been completed unless I am going to keep some paper list somewhere. I do update the coordinates on my phone but I would rather they be updated on the cache page instead for ease of filtering. Any insight would be appreciated.
  13. Thank you HHL! My log looks much prettier now! Also, thanks for the info about the "This entry was edited by". So glad that is gone!
  14. Does anyone know how to change a link I created in a log to the new Markdown? I want to change it but don't want a million "This log was edited by" additions at the end of my log. One would be OK but if I don't get it right the first time there could be a long list of them. Here is what it now looks like: <a href="http://articles.mcall.com/1991-05-27/news/2797216_1_memorial-day-monument-cemeteries">link</a> What do I have to do? I went to the Markdown Deep-Try It page from the announcements forum but I'm still unclear what to type in. If anyone has some help I would appreciate it. I feel bad for those cachers who had really awesome signatures designed in HTML. Now they look like crap.
  15. I recently discovered an archived virtual that has been logged 16 times since being archived. The cache owner appeared to be active for most of these logs and has not deleted them. So I'm wondering, if you would happen to figure out there was an archived virtual nearby, can you log it if you do all the requirements? There was a note on the page by a user mentioning that the page should be locked for logging. What are your opinions on this situation? Is there a way to keep an archived cache from being logged? I've never archived a cache so I don't know the answer to this.
  16. I checked...yes, your puzzle was posted to that Facebook page. It's been publicly spoiled. I'll advise you not to publicly make an issue of it on that page. It only ends up bringing more attention to your other puzzles that may end up getting spoiled on the same page. It's frustrating and maddening...but it happened to me and my advice comes from personal experience with this group. Thanks for checking into that JGrouchy. I had a feeling that was what happened. Saddens me, that's all. I do appreciate all of you posters looking at my puzzle and congratulations to those of you who solved it.
  17. That is true and I am one of those people. But this is just weird to me. I would expect maybe a handful of people who enjoy puzzles, who are not from my local area. Not 30 or more on the same date and within hours of each other.
  18. I created a new mystery cache that published on 11/12/2015. I made it premium and have the ability to see who has viewed it. This morning (Monday) I glanced at the audit log and have found a whole lot of user names I'm unfamiliar with. So of course I looked some of them up. One is from Great Britain, 1 from Sweden, 1 from Canada, 1 has never even logged a cache. Why would all these users suddenly have an interest in my mystery cache? Is there a way to see if the answer is now on the internet somewhere? I'm sure most of these people will never seek the cache so I'm not sure how they came to look at the page in the first place or why it matters to them. Also, there are now suddenly a whole lot of correct answers in the checker as well. I don't have a faceplace account but I do know there are some groups that give out the answers. I don't get why you want someone to just give you the answer to a puzzle cache. To me the fun of finding a mystery cache is solving the puzzle. Asking for help is one thing but to just blatantly get the answer seems stupid to me. Does anyone have a suggestion how to avoid this in the future? Is there a checker that's less likely to be compromised than another? Doesn't seem fair to those who have actually worked to solve the mystery. On the upside, maybe more people will find it.
  19. I reported that same issue to GS. Their reply was they were aware and were working on it. It has seemed to be working a bit better for me in the past couple days. If what you describe happens to me I completely close the app then go back to the e-mail and it works. It's not a perfect scenario but better than it has been. Hopefully they'll fix it completely. I also asked if I would be getting my $10 app purchase price refunded if they were going to continue enhancing the free app but let the paid app go to crap. I didn't get a response on that.
  20. You could try 'view map' from the drop down menu under Play (along the top menu where it says learn/play/community/shop. That opens a much smaller radius map based on your home coordinates (provided you have that set up). Once that is open you can do your own zooming in or out. There is also a fly out menu on the left on this map where you can do some basic filtering by cache type. Maybe that would work better for you.
  21. I personally like the challenge of looking for a cache after someone has DNFd it. If I write a log referencing your DNF log and then you delete it, it might look like I'm a bit crazy. Plus, there is a challenge cache in my area where you need to debunk DNFs. Each DNF prior to the first find it log after the DNFs is worth 1 point. Therefore, if you delete your log, it could throw off the points for that particular challenge. I wouldn't delete it. Besides, there's no shame in logging a DNF. In fact, many cachers are proud of how many DNFs they have and have added the icon to their profile page. Speaking of which, does anyone know how to do that?
  22. I read the forums a lot and know a lot of you will just tell me to play the game the way I want to play it and not worry about what others do, but this particular scenario bothers me. Is it OK to find an EarthCache months or weeks in advance, do all the required work and then not post your log until there is a souvenir involved? Then write your log in such a way as to make it seem you visited that day? I also am wondering about virtuals in this same regard. Is it OK to log a virtual for some place you visited five years prior to the start of your caching career but because you have a photo of location and you need to fill in a calendar day for a streak and you couldn't get out to find a cache that day because it snowed or rained, is it ok to log it? Again, I'm sure I'll get a lot of "They're just cheating themselves", "It's just a game", etc responses but I am curious to know what others take is on this. It bothers me because I have to plan my day and where I'm going to be in order to find a cache every day (if I was going to do a streak - which I am not - 40 was plenty thank you and yes I did it for the souvenirs) or be somewhere where there is an EarthCache to find that day if there is a souvenir involved. I await your responses.
  23. I have been wondering about this for a long time. Wanted to delete a 'friend' who no longer caches yet did not want to "offend" them if they were going to get a notification I no longer wished to be their friend. These forums are just a wealth of information and advice.
