  1. Check out this one: http://flashlightreviews1.home.att.net/reviews/brinkmann_legendlx.htm It's available at your local WalMart for $19.95 (including batteries).
  2. Expert GPS, MS Streets & Trips, Mapsend Topo, GPX View (experimenting with GPX Sonar).
  3. I have a Magellan Meridian Yellow and I'm very satisfied with it. And yes, the Meridian will display a line from both your initial goto and from your present position with the newest firmware update. Great GPSr for the money.
  4. Good choice on the GPS unit, that one should serve you well. Welcome to the fun, you'll be addicted like the rest of us soon.
  5. When you create a waypoint and save it, it will be saved in your "user" database. You then push the "GOTO" button, go to your "user" database ad select that waypoint. This tells the GPS where you want to go and it will count down the distance as you get closer.
  6. The Meridian has a "help" section in it's menu that can sometimes answer your questions. Yes, it is limited but it covers most of the major stuff and might save you a little frustration in a pinch.

    New cache icons

The new icons are a nice addition, much easier to see.
  8. I started out with a 315 and now have a Meridan yellow. The Meridian is physically larger and has a nice, big screen that is much easier to read than the one on the 315. It is also somewhat heavier and does not have a lanyard attachment point which is a negative for me. Still, I've been very happy with it overall. Hope this helps.
  9. I rarely search over around 50 miles or so from home so I would like to see a way to drop the search down to this distance. Also would like to have a way to search for the newest caches within this distance.
  10. I have a Mag 315 and a Meridian Yellow. Both great units.
  11. I have noticed that there it no longer an option at the top of the page to edit my cache pages. Has anyone else noticed this?
  12. Sometimes I think that afterwards, a lot of people just plain forget what they swapped out. Especially when they've found several caches in one day. My PDA has a voice recording feature and I just record a short message after I find each cache, detailing what I took and left and also any other details that might be of interest later when I log the find on the website.
  13. The Meridian, hands down. Nothing even comes close for the money and it performs great.
  14. You made a good choice in the Meridian Yellow. I've had mine for a couple of months now and I continue to be amazed with all the features it offers for such a low price. It holds lock in the woods very well. I took mine into a very heavily wooded area today and it never lost signal lock even once during the whole 3 mile trip. Enjoy!
  15. The Yellow or green Magellan Meridians are hard to beat. They have a large, easy to read screen and simple to learn interface. They come with the cable you need to hook it to your computer and they are very accurate in the field, especially under tree cover. You can usually find them for $109 to $119 if you shop around. Great value for a mapping GPSr.
  16. My Meridian Yellow with firmware 3.12 is within 1 second compared to the NIST site.
  17. For me, it's the mystery and intrigue of knowing there's something hidden out there, waiting for me to find it. Strangely, some of my most enjoyable caches are the ones I was unable to find on the first attempt. Afterwards, I'd upload the tracks from my GPS into my computer and analyze how close I was to the cache location. There was one cache in particular that I recently found after three attempts and when I finally located it, I felt a real sense of accomplishment. It's the thrill of the hunt, the attempt to get inside another person's head and figure out what they were thinking when they hid the cache. I never cease to be amazed at the clever and unusual hiding places that cachers are able to come up with. It makes you stop and take notice of your surroundings, looking for any small thing that looks out of place that might reveal the elusive hiding spot. Heck, it's just plain fun, what else can you say.......
  18. I bought my Meridian Yellow from Outpost.com for $119.99. Very satisfied with their prices and service.
  19. Will the data cable for my Magellan 315 also work with a Meridian Yellow?
  20. No, there were no dates or other information on the disk. I too looked this up and got basically the same references to a certain religious organization that you did. Guess this one will remain a mystery.
  21. A friend and I were searching for the "Rocky River Cache" near Chimney Rock, NC and came across a benchmark near the bend of a nearby river. There was a small disk atop a concrete post which read "Society of the Transfiguration." No other numbers or identification were noted. The location was 35.27.180 N and 82.17.229 W. Has anyone run across any other benchmarks like this before or have any further info? Thanks, MAG315
