  1. I was in your place once when the Grinch was kidnapped. I was able to pin down who did it and during the night a special forces unit went in looking for the Grinch. When it wasn't found the unit removed items such as pictures, lighthouses etc...The person gave in and an exchange was made. In this case take his water bowl!
  2. That is what I am looking for. Thanks for the help!
  3. I will try to explain this the best I can without making it confusing. When you place a waypoint there is a soild black line that shows where you currently are (start point) and where the waypoint is. As you move the black line always references that start point. I thought at one time the black line would reference off the little triangle that shows where you currently are and the direction you are going. Does anyone know how to do that or if it can be done? If this isn't clear let me know.
  4. Hmmmm 50/50 chance so far....think I will wait for a few more responses. The only thing I am seeing is when updating from the orignal version to 2.x the bouys that used to be in lake michigan are now in the city!!! Other than that it is working fine.
  5. Has anyone had any problems with 3.20? I am thinking of updating mine but don't want to if people have seen problems.
  6. Hi - I am thinking of getting the topo software to download to my 76s. The question that I have is can I download the location of a cache and place that on the topo software? The reason is with the state map feature not showing what caches you have been at I thought I would download the ones I haven't been to and then I can see them on a map in one location so I can hit a group at a time. I'm thinking the answer is yes to this but I am not sure. Thanks
  7. Whoops...read right over that. Actually I haven't been caching that much lately so I haven't been to the map in a while. Thanks for the feedback...
  8. When going to the cache map for the state the icons don't appear to be working. Typically there is green for new, blue for ones you haven't been to and white with a checkmark for ones that you have already been at. Today I have green and blue. Caches that I have been to and logged which used to show correctly with the white box with the check now show blue. Is anyone else seeing this?
  9. I would love it if there were some around here but I don't know of any 4x4 areas in southern WI. Up north there are a lot of ATV trails. It would be nice to use 4x4 other than for a boat or snow.
  10. I am guessing that the area it is placed in is critical so it matches the surroundings! There are a few here but not stumps. They are more like small logs that have been bored out. I like the last post. This has me thinking of a few ideas....
  11. It's nice to see some are trying to work back and forth. I read their website and wow you would think they own the caves and all geocachers are terrible people who dig holes and destroy things.
  12. Welch, I'm not getting into a snit back and forth but as others state this type of response is a turn off of our sport and shows the rudeness of people. I hope you aren't the hypocrite and do as you and others suggest. It's my guess that you have read every manual for everything you bought before you asked one question on help. I doubt it. I'm a manager for a tech support group and we get tons of calls from people asking for help. Some have read the manuals and others haven't. In either case they are human and are asking questions. It isn't like they asked where the on/off button is. Lastly no where in the first post did it state they didn't read the manual so people like you jump on them for something they may have already done. That's right you or the other two didn't give them a chance. The rudeness of people still amazes me.
  13. Please see my post a few up on why I bought the 76S....bigger display and buttons on top. No click stick.
  14. Ok this is the second RTFM.... the person comes for help and is new. Is that a way to respond? Being helpful and friendly is part of the sport and I wouldn't appreciate an answer like that if I was new and wouldn't now. People come for help not to be told RTFM. To get the same point across all you need to say is did you reference your manual? Come on be a little nicer!
  15. I'm curious on if you corrected the speed difference or not. Good thing my truck is made in VA and is a Ford. As for the speedo I am right on or at least from what I can tell. If the gps reads 60 the speedo is reading 60.
  16. I do not have an external attenna for mine. I purchased the bean bag base and holder so it sits on the dash. Prior to that I propped it up by the window but didn't like the fact it could fall out. I have no reception problem in the truck. As for carrying it I thought the same as you but it would be a pain. You have 9' of cord to figure out what to do with and the reciever isn't large but isn't small. You would need to attach to the top of the hat for example so it has no obstructions. I have also been told that external attennas will shorten battery life. I really haven't had much reception problems. I did in the beginning but that was more that I wanted more than what a GPS will give. I am satisfied with the 76s and would easily buy another. Good luck
  17. I love my Map76S. The things I like about it are the bigger display, and the buttons on top of the unit. I didn't really like the click stick that the legend of the vista has. It is larger so if that makes a difference than go with the vista. I like the larger screen since it makes it easier to see when on the dash board. Hope this helps.
  18. I know a problem is trying to be solved and that this is brain storming. While these are good ideas I hope they don't make it to WI. For me to go somewhere to get an IOU or to e-mail someone for the cords. is too much work. With the IOU say you visit 10 caches that means you have 10 IOU's to collect on! The e-mailing I addressed before. I do accept change since it is a part of life but I'm not a fan of any suggestions listed here. I will admit I have nothing to complain about since my 3 caches are all virtuals and I have never placed an actual cache. When I do place my actual that I have in the works I realize it can be stolen. To me that is a risk in the sport. Like a few others here in WI I stopped trading items since you get tired of the garbage in the caches but that is a different story. The point being it is part of caching. Just my 2 cents...
  19. How big of problem is this really? Say there are 50 caches hidden and 10 get hit that is 1/5 of them being plundered. On the other hand if 1 gets hit then that is 1/50th. There may not be specific numbers but if you look at the thousands of caches that are out there how many are lost? I know the feeling of having a cache lost since I have lost a travel bug which stinks so I can imagine that losing a cache is worse.
  20. For many of the reasons listed above I too am not a fan of this. If I wake up at 6:00am and decide I want to go caching I can't until I figure out which ones I want to do and e-mail them, wait for a response etc. I want to be able to go. Between being back in school and working full time my time is limited and I don't want to waste more to find a McDonalds toy!
  21. I'm just curious and e-mailed Dan on if this could be on the stats page and apparently it can't. I am wondering how many travel bugs you have had? I am at 33 for finding 132 caches found. What can I say other then I like them and will chase to get them. I have also released 4 but one has been MIA and is placed in the grave yard. Have a great day. Tean Golden
  22. Wanted to say thanks for the great feedback. I do have a mini mag light I could use and I also have a regular policemens flashlight that puts the 3 D-Cell mag lite to shame. Was thinking of something smaller though so that is why I thought like a headlamp. I will try the flashlights and see how that works. I also like the ideas on the LED lights so I could use one of those as well. Thanks again!
  23. I'm curious with winter coming and shorter daylight hours if anyone has any type of headlamp that they use for caching. The ones I have heard about use 2AA batteries and I am looking for something that will have either rechargeables or a larger battery for longer use. I can remember using some lights on my bike that were real bright and the battery was in a water bottle that would be on the bike. Guess I am wondering what people use, how bright they are and what the battery life is. Thanks
  24. I chase travel bugs all the time. I used to chase first finders but that became boring and the thrill was lost. To chase a bug to me is exciting. I have dropped what I am doing many of times to go and get it. Typically I will search the local caches for bugs to keep them moving around however I only go and get bugs that I haven't had already. I hope people do the same with my bugs.
