  1. I work in a small town for the towns parks department. Even though I knew I could probally hide caches, but politeness I was descussion it with higher ups.

Our Hot Springs pool manager whe geocached in Virginia ask me how many caches I was going to put out. I told him 12 to 15 between now and Jan 1 2007. Some would be micro, some mini and most traditional.

He said for each mini and traditional he would issue me two free one day passes for the FTF prizes.

I gladly accepted> I had know idea that any one on our towns workforce knew about geocaching...

  2. Just recently, I decided to walk into a paint ball store just to see if this small store had containers that could be used for caches. To ny surprise there were e ammo cans of different sizes right inside the door..

If you have paint ball stores around try them or give them a call

  3. Well, I will consider myself a newbe...started caching in Feb and have had only 2 dnfs and found 25, But...

Once I find a micro or mini of a western colorado cacher then I will not consider myself a new be...

He has a habit of high altitude caches snow now 5 to 25 feet of snow.. Ususing public business with permission to hide on their property but not during business hours....

When I find one of the most deceptive cache hidders from our area cache, then I will say I am not a newbee no mo...

  4. I am using a bowwored yellow Extra and plan on buying one for myself...

I ran it trough some test one day while geochaching on checking accuracy..

I found a few benchmarks and laid the yellow beast on the benchmark and then when I got home looked up the coordinates for the benchmark...

On most benchmarks west coordinates were right on...north was .001 off

I and Team_Talisman have never been more than 3 foot from a chache no matter what the weather or the underbrush

One thing is we dont put in the coordinates we just turn it on and set it for longitude and latatude reading and go from there.....Only have had 2 DNFs one muggled and other under too much snow...

  5. Once in a while a cache will becom accidently buried..

A few weeks back and my garmin gps said I was there... I scoured a 30 foot diameter for about 5 minutes then went back to actually co ordinate spot and stood there drinking a soda...

wondering if this would be a DNF....

Keep watching gps for changes since was in a oak brush area and it was changing cloud cover... Turned around and heard a clink under my shoe...

A 50cal can laying on its side with originally a small rock and one small limb was visiable, under 3 inches of natural blown down oak leaves was the cache....

Mother nature even has a touch in our game....

  6. My family and friends involved have agreed to log in under the team concept..

Usually its like "who evers name of Team_Talisman"

With 7 children and 8 grandchildren and a few friends, this works the best for us....

They knew if they want to become independent they can at any time...

  7. Question instead of post on hiding a chache...

I am getting ready to hid 3 of my planned 20 caches this year.

I was experimenting on disguising a cache.... I took empth paint can sanded it, coated it in glue and then covered it with sand from the area I want to stash it...

I know it says no burying of caches, would this type of disguise be allowed...

Its really no different than using camo duct tape..

  8. I am getting ready for placement of 5 caches between now and may 30th. The first one I want to place is an ideal location for all people with or without disabilities.... My problem is, without offending someone I want to have first to locate prizes (ie. blind, wheelchaired,, walker, crutches and physically capable).

What is your idea on making these first to find gifts out without offending???????????

  9. Instead of carrying a metal detector with me, in my back pockets are two 16 inch long copper rods(bent into a sidewards L. stick short end loosly in hand hold about 6 inches in front of me and where they cross do a little scratching of the bround with rock hammer and bingo benchmarks are found , geo caches under rock piles and pine needles and twigs and letter boxes.....

Of course all people for some reason are unable to do this. its kinda like witching for water.......

  11. Count the dm half of cwdm in......

I had to search for benchmarks 40 years ago for boy scouts and A mountain survival school, the hard way.

Live in the rugged Rocky Mountains so most of our bench marks, are a little harder than flatlanders heheheh

  12. I don, know how many have run into this. But in Colorado there are some Federal and state lands closed off for periods of time for habit reasons....you are not even allowed to walk into them....

I dont know if people wwho hide caches in these areas realize that this happens. One close to home here is closed off from January1 to April 30 for deer and elk winter habitat and for birthing. Another one not far from here is closed from April 15 to Oct 1st for Eagle nesting.

Another thing is that starting January 1st, 2006 you have to buy a $10 per year pass to get into the Colorado State Wildlife areas. This is a different pass than the State Parks pass.

Any one else have these type rulings in their state...
