  1. Just got done reading a email from A local cacher I have never met. I emailed him about his great cache...

He is coming back for the summer to his residence and he wants to put on a GeoCaching /CITO event in Ridgway, CO...

Stay Tuned for more info as it comes in.....Having a C.A.C.H.E. West by then would be a great addition..

  2. You know what one of the best micro's I use are?

    70685L.jpg

Wrap some camo-tape around both parts, include a rare earth magnet on the top, underneath the camo-tape, and you have yourself a waterproof, magnetic, micro container! The only problem is you have to fold up the log instead of rolling. Not a bad downside, though!

Edit: I forgot to say that you need to separate the left capsule from the right, and shave off the remaining excess plastic. Not too hard and totally worth it!

Imagination.... that is the thing on micros not expense.....

Dont buy have you dont have to.....

  3. Lets see Auto routing..... I ask you this question when you can get two different sites with same corridinates...does the fancy auto routing help you out when your in a situation like this and have to drive 5 to 6 miles to check out other site, it could be at.....????

Forget auto find...... I borrowed a lesser priced GPS and other than 2 dnfs cause of my stupidity... I have been only 6 foot off at the most.......The double co ordinate site was because of an over hang....

Nothing was never downloaded to GPS.. Set it to my location and may have walked aways because of where cache was at when got to coordinates ban was there.

I find either the north or west coordinates and look at terrain and go from there....then figure clikes on GPS and bam....

I feel dont you need anything fancy when you use commen sense....

Ops ever gps manufacturer who specializes in high priced units will hate me for above statement...

  4. Having read all the posts, I still have a question. I am trying to locate a cache which is said to be in a parking structure. Topo maps don't really help here. I went to two different levels at the posted coordinates, but couldn't figure out how close I was because of the different floors. Maybe this is unique to this particular cache, GCRT0N.

Do this.... take a friend with you, go to top open air parking structure.... Find co ordinates.. Have frind go down one level usually you two can see each other...then you go down one level below friend.....Tell you find cache and get to bottom.....

  5. Gas prices affecting caching ...Not for me...

Since I started caching in Feb dropped from 4 packs of cigarettes a day to 3 (working for No packs) savings from that $135 a month...Also dropped beer $240 dollars a month....

Plenty of money for caching and getter to better health this way... 1) by cutting done on both and 2) by excersising more....

Even though I live in a rural area and sometimes have to drive many miles to search... The caching gas fund is full

  6. MOst have no problems with McToys, especially if they are still wrapped, it the BROKEN McToys that the kids don't wan't left in caches that most people hate!

That's the key. Its the ones that look like they spent the last four years under the car seat that people complain about. I don't think anyone gripes about brand new ones.

Except for the Burger King ones from movies that flopped ... those are carp ... If I see one more of those stupid "Atlantis" toys ... Arggh!

Mu/Lemuria, Atlantis & Rama ....They are all an ancient cache.... cache it........

  7. Micros hummmmm

My feeling, I can hide a micro rated a 1/5...ok that sounds like a good one to find....ops accessability may be 4 weeks a year..... maybe to see if I can get 1000DNF beforee a find....hey Thats not my lifestyle.

You could go expense to try to get a TB approval for a micro without having the tag....There are people who can write a lot on a kernal of rice....Maybe a geospeak rice kernal travel bug.....Nah

I have learned a lot for stocking my caches to come out this year, by finding caches with stuff in them...

My FTF trophy was a crystal goblet engraved with 1st to find on it.... It sets proudly on my bookcase.

To me its almost like a person cant camoflage an amo can or tupper ware so they decide to hide altoid boxes or bison tubes.

Sure in urban areas it my be the only way to cache, but in open areas away from towns(like our area) cans and tupper ware work best....

I have 4 grandkids that go with me at times to geocache and their first question is...."grandpa is it a micro?"

If i saw yes they say we will stay at home.

I talked to one person who only hides micros in rural areas he tells me he likes the DNFs cause it build hi ego as a cacher...Ok fine... Then in my opinion he needs to step up to hide bigger stuff that may have some DNFs

In my opinion having virtual caches, so handicapped people have a chance to enjoy our sport is more important than a micro at 14,000...

  8. There is an Ebay seller called wholesale2usa, http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...7106272&frm=284 , that sells lots of trinkets, as well as bison tubes. They come often in lots of 12. Shipping on these lots is $8.00. I watch the auctions, and bid around $4.00. So far I've never paid more than $1.00 a piece for them, total. I've also purchased lots of el-cheapo compasses, carbiners, etc, to use as swag, or to fill small caches with.

Why buy Micros when with imagination they are free even in your front yard

  9. My dad is diabetic so I'm going to try and use some of his empty test-strip canisters. I saw a thread somewhere when they tested them and said they were quite waterproof. Don't know where that thread went...

Having a x-nurse and EMT on Team Talisman they both say say some canisters of diabetic strips are not water proof...

Best bet would be put peice of paper with you name on it in canister and stick it in a fish tank or something like that for a few days to see.....

  10. A person could look at some national monuments, some federal and state parks as being Provacative...

But what about towns like "Intercourse, PA" ...Would I go for caches there if I lived around there yeppers...

or If cache name was smells like fish and taste like chicken...so the cache is close to a salmon fishery dock in Oregan at a chicken fast food place...

Read the cache name......See where it is located.....Most likely you will see why it was named that way....

Just to read a cache title is not a reason to call it Provacative....

Where I live in colorado I could hide a cache called "Leave my Beaver alone" but by reading the description of cache you would see by some beaver ponds....

    My two cents worth

    Dave from Team_Talisman

  11. Depending on your imagination and artistic talents, Yes film canisters can be made water proff so can the altoid cans that are about 1inch wide 2 and a half inches long and over a 1/4 inch deep.

I have just finished testing an old tyme thimble micro that after 20 days at the bottom of our citys swimming pool shows no sign of water leakage.... Now to disguise it hehehehehehe

Look at what people have done with writings on a rice kernal........

  12. Plasma,

First off there will be old timers that will say unneeded post, just go on with post. Dont be intimidated...

There are safety concerns that should be discussed as a forum. if a person states you should be prepared thats true, but newbies as the are called so be informed about some safety features...

Urban chachers do have it made more or less. they still have to worry about muggers(not Bears or Mountain lions), they have to watch for traffic(not falling rocks or flass floods).

I agree a gps is not the answer to all finds or is a cell phone to try to call help, to protect yourself. State highway maps dont help much, and topos hummm be well off and be able to purchase many of them for just a few miles from my home... Most people wind up buying less topos than what they need.

I have a friend working on a cache he considers a terrain 1.5 (typical of a rolling hill golf course) and a difficulty of 10+ which they dont have on web site. (BY the way I am trying to discourage him from this setup on the cache.) I attended Outbound way back when first started, have been on fire firefighting teams and search and rescue teams in high Colorado rockies.

One mile from cache you loose cell phone coverage, at entrance to canyon, gps reads accruacy range 1 mile, inside canyon you lose gps signal. And all this for a thimble sized micro cache., along a stream that disappears underground as you go into canyon.

Would a person carrying a backpqack like mentioned in other forums and this one have the right maps, and such.......NO WAY.. Even a topo for this area is brown vertical strips for almost a thousand feet.

So I say yes people should be more prepared, and people should know their limitations. Study the description of cache carefully and check all on line maps....

To those that disagree with having this forum on line, I say there is expert help out there to help those who may wonder off to being unkown..

As far as Team_Talisman, we have an EMT, a LPN, a child theripist, a National registered Wildland firefighter all as family members on the searches.

We all back you Plasma, on this forum

  13. Ok , in my area of colorado, there is over 150 caches in a 50 mile radias unatainable in the winter by normal means... some are rated as low as 1 terrain and 1 dificulty .....but 10 avalance danger but nothing is mentioned in original log.... My father in law was killed on a valentines day in an avalance many years ago(rating 1 terrain 1 difficulty if there was a chache where I am going to a memorial cache to him. but I am going inactive with it in the winter....

  14. I have a good job working for a small town government. But to pay for my geocaching, I dropped 17 online pay subscriptions, changed plans on cell phones, cut down on cigarettes..... Gas $2.75 around here and many chaches covered with snow and have to travel miles to find caches....

  15. My nickles worth..

Each cacher and each hider are different. Each have different values and different reasons for geocaching. No one is going to agree all the times with other forum users. Some prefer to not log in their finds or DNFs but use the forumns. Others like to log and not use forums, and some like to do all. Each to their own.

I am putting out 15 caches within the next few months. I would like to see some DNFS just for the purpose of rating the cache, the chances of muggled caches(some in public parks).

My wife and I found one cache, that if I would have had grandchildren with us, like we do at times I would have ruled it a DNF. I would have logged it as DNF due to enviroment concerns.. And then I would email the person who hide cache..

The concerns could be either storms approaching, covered with 5 feet of snow and such.

This one cache I spoke about above was on a 300 foot cliff 7 foot from edge and terain level to get there a 1.... Parked 25 foot away.... Not a good place to have a cache that was set up for all ages....

I use geocaching for a stress reducer from work, also and most important to me, is to see new areas and to teach grandchildren about different things... the indian rock art and artifacts we have seen....the amythist crystals we have found along our hikes....the prehistoric animal tracks and bones we have seen.

A numbers game to some, a log in can only for others, a TNLN for some, travel bug moving for others. Each of us interparate the caching a different way...Enjoy the way you have devised for yourself...

As for myself I log in the cans, I log online, I email some cachers and hiders. That is my way
