  1. That is awesome! I didn't see the little door in the pic till I read the story and what a start, just a door appeared and people started leaving note, how cool is that?! Not hidden or anything, just right there out in the open, hopefully no plundering issues happen there and that respect is not a problem, what about little vandals with little spray paint graffiti, that would be terrible.
  2. Those disposable camaras actually can go much deeper than the rated 10-15ft. Its not the plastic emploding that hinders them, it is the winding wheel mechanism. I have taken the cheep disposables 40ft free diving and winding it after I reach the surface for a breath, then going back down for another shot and it was fine doing that all throughout the dive and the pics came out ok, no leakage or anything.
  3. After logging my prior note, I searched and found the underwater cache in Indiana, it looks awesome and wish I found it earlier this summer. That would be awesome to place one in the quarries I dive at in Ohio. I was primarily joking about the "navy GPSr", sorry, I have a dry sarcastic humor that's tough to put into text. It's pretty obvious how you need to search. I don't think I want to Dive with my eTrex even though they say it is waterproof to a degree. Later, JBird77
  4. I Dive, and think that would be cool in Michigan, BUT unless you have some special Navy GPSr, what type or coodinants would you use. Anybody know of Michigan Underwater Caches? JBird77

  6. Personally, I really want to place a cache, but am waiting to get more ideas of what and where to place. I have found about 11 caches so far, mostly in SE Mich, and want to place one where there are none or few caches around, and challenging enough to be fun. It is tough to wait it out, but what the heck, its all a learning process anyway. If it sucks, its not placed in concrete, and all of us caching in Michigan seem friendly enough to give some advice along the way. Enjoy, JBird77
  7. Uhhh. Make sure your GPSr is an eTrex or simmilar waterproof unit. LOL Or drag a watertight bag. Cool idea, I may pass it along to do something like that in Michigan. JBird77
  8. Squirrel Nut: I was curious what your thoughts were to make this cache. Because if you decide not to make it, I may steal your idea and have my wife make one and I'll hide it somewhere. No rush or anything, just wondering God Bless, JBird77

  10. I have a Venture and never even considered the POI CD software to load onto it. But after using it now for a few months and using it in the Car more than I thought I would, I am considering it. I'm still not sure it would be worth it, so if anyone has it and likes it or not please post a reply if you could. Thanks, JBird77 [This message was edited by JBird77 on August 30, 2002 at 10:25 AM.] [This message was edited by JBird77 on August 30, 2002 at 10:32 AM.]
  11. My Wife would probably insist I find this cache as well, or It would be a great insentive to have her come along so she can look through the "neat stuff" I know nothing about, and go back again and again and again, uhhh ... wait maybe this isn't a great idea. will be looking for a listing. 12. I usually have to carry my 15mo old in a kelty child carrier backpack, then I only pack a snack for her and my 3 year old (who hikes next to me!but I do end up carrying her through the thorny off trail portions of the hunt) and some water/juice. I do always forget to bring bug spray though, which I quickly remember in the middle of the woods after the first few bits, luckly the kids stay bug free for some reason! Its always good to pack for an unexpected overnight, But when backpacking I go ultralight, or close to it, going crazy and packing the kitchen sink just give you back problems. Keep it simple and enjoy the view. [This message was edited by JBird77 on September 04, 2002 at 08:54 AM.]

  14. quote:Originally posted by FLEABANDIT:i hope to have my gps by next weekend, still deciding on what garmin will be good (any suggestions?). I was just replying to a "getting started" thread that talked about the Garmen eTrek Venture, I have one and several people discuss this model in that thread youi may want to check out. Great features and low price. I myself didn't need the robust features seen on more expensive models, and the eTrek line is perfect for backpacking and geocaching!! good luck. JBird77
  15. I bought my Venture about 4 or 5 months ago, absolutly LOVE it! I thought about getting the next model up, Vista, but couldn't justify the feature set. I just used it this weekend to moderate to heavy tree cover and was suprised at the reception, keeping 30 ft accuracy nearly the entire time with no clear shot of the sky visable. I agree with the previous note that getting near the cache is frustrating and not to rely on the heading, I use the map view to make sure I'm in the right general direction. Have a blast. JBird 77
  16. D&B rocks, and may be a bit more suiting for getting together than GameWorks. I still pretty new to Geocaching, but have loved every hunt, even the frustrating ones. I can't promise I'd be able to go, but would definatly be interested. joshuaw39@excite.com Calling out from Shelby Twp. Joshua Weller JBird77
