  1. Oddly enough, that worked. Night Display of Topaz shows the POIs, and Ruby does not. I have given this issue over to Garmin Tech Support. They had not heard of this before, so perhaps a solution is forthcoming. Grimm-
  2. Ok, Everything was working fine, then I used the garmin webupdate to update the software on my 60Cx unit. After the update my custom POIs were gone. I went to reload them and it said "13 custom POIs loaded", but when I look in the unit, it says there are none. Ok, so I figured I had the old version of the POI loader, so I downloaded the new beta and installed that.. Using the new software, I tried to load the POI database again.. Still nothing.. Anyone encountered this before? Solution? Grimm-
  3. Stupid Question.... Ok, I have read somewhere before that I could save directly from Mapsource to the MicroSD card. I have a card reader on order from newegg.com. Once I get it, what is the procedure from xfering maps, WPTS, and routes from mapsource to the card so the 60cx will read it? Grimm-
  4. Ok, here is a question... What are the ethics of attaching a tag-along / hitchhiker to someones travel bug? Like say add a small tag/charm to the travel bug chain to go along for the ride... Nothing permanent, and no defacing of the Bug or the original hitchhiker. Grimm-
  5. And did they say when / how they were going to fix the problem?
  6. Ok, this is a good start... You mean I have to have other software loaded than what comes with the unit for Marine? If that is the case, then why would the Tide Points show up at all? Without going thru the dload from Garmin, My unit already has the Tide Points and I have a POI category for Marine. The unit has these POI even when the SD card is removed from the unit. Grimm-
  7. Yes, it does appear to be a Tide station.. Looked under the Marine POI and tried a few more... Same thing happens with each I tried... Screen goes dim, then the unit just dies... This sounds like a serious bug. Even took out the SD Card... Same thing happens when looking at Tide Stations.. This has to be a problem with the Firmware (2.40) in my unit. I just put an email into Garmin, lets see how they reply. Grimm-
  8. Well, my card is fully loaded with maps. Does this mean that the Icon should not be there?
  9. Ok, this is a first... Was looking at the local city select map on the Cx and saw a spot I had not noticed before with a strange symbol.. The name of the point was "Herod Point" and it had an Icon of a large round blue circle with a single horizontal squigly line thru it (like an "s" on its side)... Out of curiosity, I cursured over the Icon and hit <ENTER>... The screen faded and the unit shut off... This was the weirdest thing I have seen yet. The error is repeatable... Went to many other points around it, and they come up fine. So far, it is just this one point. I looked thru the icons on the Cx and in Mapsource, but it is not listed. Also, there is no Herod Point in my area. When I look at the Mapsource map of the area, there is nothing there. It is like a phantom point. I loaded some custom POI files, but there is nothing with that name there either. Anyone encountered this? Know what it could be? Not too worried about it, but curious. Grimm-
  10. Is this for Trip & Waypoint manager? Grimm-
  11. No, I have not. I emailed Garmin (at: techsupp@garmin.com) and got this reply on my comments/questions regarding lead-time beeps and volume: "Thank you for contacting Garmin, You wrote to the right place, I'll pass your letter to the engineers. Some of the difference between 'lead times' will be attributed to using v6/v7. But the volume settings on the beeps they'll want to hear about." Talk about side-stepping the question.. Love how they never actually answered the question of how to change the distance between beeps... Ahh well.. I am sure some geek geocacher will figure it out and let us know..
  12. Thanks, With enough poking around, I figured it out last night.. Everything works fine now..
  13. Isn't that a setting? Boy, I don't think so. I can sure change the "tones", but can't find a way to change the timing or the loudness. Did you ever find a way to change this? I am looking for the solution also. Grimm-
  14. Try here first for the GSAK FAQs. It state things better than I could repeat it here. Look at Item 3 first. dadgum.. Thanks.. That should work.. Don't know how I missed that... Now if I can just figure out where to add the %code tag to make it work... grrrrrr...
  15. When I use GSAK to export a mps file, which is then uploaded into mapsource, all the names of the caches change from GCxxxxx convention to something like what the description of the cache is like Bloomies24 or something.. This got very annoying when the people I was with were trying to figure out the next cache and were asking me for the GCxxx number and I could not provide it.. Any way to change the export from GSAK, so when it imports into mapsource it is the GCxxx format? Grimm-
  16. Ok, call me a GPS newbie (cause I am), but how do I get started adding my own POIs? I see nothing in the manuals that refer to this. A simple step-by-step would be appreciated since I have a few POI that I would like to add. Do I need any software other than Mapsource? Please enlighten my curiousity. Thanks Grimm-
  17. Found a workaround in the text at http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...4entry1570564 7. How do I keep the cache waypoints from showing up on my map without deleting them? From the Map page, press MENU » 'Setup Map' » ENTR » 'Map Setup-Points tab (the third tab, with a flag) » 'User Waypoints' » ENTR. Then select the zoom level at which you want waypoints to show up. This thread talks more about it. If desired, it can be set to AUTO or OFF as well (Thanks, Robert). Really, how do you do it in mapsource? I have had it for like a day and have not figured out all the tricks yet.. Grimm-
  18. Ok, lets me rephrase... On the "Map" how do I hide all the geocaching symbols? Grimm-
  19. I thought I saw this asked before, however, I can't find it in the last 12 pages of topics. So I figured I would ask again... How does one hide all the goecaching waypoints, while letting the remaining waypoints be visible? Grimm-
  20. Ok, simple questions: I am here on Long Island, and am about to get my first GPS and try cache hunting for the first time. 1. Do most people go out alone? 2. How to find others to go hunting with? Grimm-
  21. Ahh.. but which is right? The manual or the Sites? Anyone have any real-life feedback?
  22. GPSMAP60Cx manual page 74 says expected battery life is 18 hours. While for the 60C it's 30 and the 60, it's 28. Then all the sellers of the unit are misrepresenting the hardware. As an example, from the lakepowell website <snip> .... # LED backlit display and keypad # Battery life: up to 30 hours using two AA alkaline batteries # Includes a built-in Americas autoroute basemap with automatic routing capabilities, including highways, exits, and tide data (U.S. only) etc... " <end> This is the description every retailer I have looked at has up for the 60Cx. I am not singling out lakepowell.. Grimm-
  23. On the bike... Don't you just use a handlebar mount? Don't think you can use the cover and the mount at the same time, am I wrong? I plan on using my new unit for Motorcycling, Mountain Biking, Hiking, and Geocaching... Don't think the cover would help other than while hiking and geocaching. Grimm-
