I have a Vista HCx, but I presume the procedure is similar. Go to "SetUp" and from that page select "Heading". On that page you should have the option to display the heading in cardinal letters (I think that is the default setting), in degrees or in mils. Thanks that works...

How do I change the readout of heading and bearing to degrees instead of N or SW? I want it to show 270 or 120. It is a Map60 series.

I have a new to me C60 map and a friend gave me an old mapsend disk. When I installed the sections of the map it came and and said that the unit could not unlock the map sections. They were unlocked in my computer so why does it have to be unlocked by the GPS?

Successive short presses of the power button (not the long press used to turn on and off) cycle the backlighting between off--medium/set point lighting -- 100% backlight. So one more short press on the power switch after the unit boots should turn the backlight on to your intermediate setpoint. thanks that worked...

I have a GPSMAP60. I want the back lighting to remain on. When I set it for say 80% it works fine until the unit is turned off and I have to go back into the setup for display and turn it on again each time I start the unit. Any one know what to do to keep it at 80%?

My new GPSMAP60 offers a series of screen blocks allowing each to be asigned a function. One of those is Turn. What does that mean? I set it to turn and got 004 at one time???

How do I contact Garmin without filling out their never ending request form? The form will not accept my serial number as valid even though I got it from their software reading my GPSMAP60. Any ideas?

I'm selling my XL since it will only come up with a recurring NAND message on the screen. I also have the 3.0 software for city streets for the unit. If someone might be able to have it fixed by Magellan. I can't get Magellan to respond to my support requests. Your buying into the most consumer dissatisfied company on earth though.

Can I use my Mapsend 3.0 on another Magellan? I was thinking of buying a 210 while my XL is down and using it for my dirt biking and use the XL only for street riding. Will the software let me use it on a second unit?

Clarification: Do you mean that you cannot establish a USB connection to your computer? Have you been able to establish USB connection before, without a problem? Are you using a different GPS-Map program than before? Just questions to clarify the problem... I can no longer use the machine at all. This of course also means that I cannot establish a connection with my XP laptop. Previously I have had no problems loading maps from Mapsend 3.0 to either my GPS or the digital card. I tried to reload a map into the permanant memory of my XL and it would not contact teh computer. Since tehn the first screen is Press ENTER to configure NAND Press ESC to cancel Pressing enter or escape turns the machine off. I tried to remove batteries for an hour or so but no difference. Do I have to send this $500 piece of junk back to Magellan to get it working?

I clicked on the update download, but it just say something about directory not listed and won't respond... By the way I also will not buy another Magellan. This XL is my first and last. I am amazed at the simplicity of the Garmin to operate and although I can now operate the XL I am so disgusted with teh learning curve that I won't deal with them again.

thats not normal. I live in canada and the GPS is on my handlebars on my ATV at temps of -20c probably lower with the windchill. I did have a brand new unit that had your problem and I returned it right away. There is no such thing as a windchill factor on an object that does not produce its own heat. -20 is still -20 on plastic even though it feels like -40 to a humanoid.

I use mine in the forest and it gets much better reception than my previous ETREX Legend, but as he stated teh files system takes some getting used to. I would prefer a simpler system.

Does the EU upgrade interfere with the NA maps or functionality?

I'm sure someone here can lead me to a suitable resolution for my scratched Explorer XL. A friend of mine crashed my motorcycle with the GPS on it. The screenis still readable but scratched pretty good. I tried polishing it out to no avail. Any suggestions? Can the screen be replaced easily?

Trying to input a GOTO on my XL. It lets me input the road and chose between a couple cities but when it shows an address it higlites it but I cannot change it to the desired number? Now what???

how or what do I do with a gdb file. We are trying to use a track from someone elses GarminV on a GarminIII. Can't figure out how to get it from e-mail to teh Garmin???

A friend got a file from another in a ".gdb" format and can't open it on his Roads and Recreation software. How can this file be followed- its a route we believe- on his Garmin III?
