No new coins in the mail today but I got two packages yesterday; one all the way from Australia. My geocoin collection now includes four Tiki Stacker coins and a copper and blue Celtic Circle of Life coin from Greenish, and a 7 Jahre Grune Holle geocoin from Ice13-333. Thanks for the trades. I love these coins! No time for pictures tonight. I've got to pack my parachute and get ready to feed my skydiving addiction tomorrow. I am so glad to read that you are pleased with the 2007 Earth Turtle trade, GoldBugGirl. The fact that it was your #1 pick makes me feel assured that it is going to a good home. I hope you enjoy it. It should arrive in just a day or two since we live so close together. In fact, I even considered driving over and delivering the Earth Turtle in person, but my work schedule wouldn't allow it. Blue skies!

Yes, each event has it's own coin (some will have two versions): 1. Seattle, Washington 2. Carolinas (North \ South) 3. California (Bay Area) 4. Minnesota 5. Michigan 6. Pittsburgh, PA 7. Texas, (Dallas) 8. Utah, (Salt Lake City) There are no opportunities for other events at this time since the mint is taking a long time to make the coin and we need them by mid-February. Like other Multi events each event has a limited number of their own version (the coins are expensive). There will also be a version for the February geoswag coin of the month, and a version on Geoswag.com Very surprising that there is no event in Louisiana -- the one place most famous for Mardi Gras.

Thanks for linking those pictures, scificollector. That helps a lot! Searching for pictures of all the coins listed is one of the most time consuming parts of the process for me. You might want to recheck the picture link for your Mood geocoin though. It seems to link to a picture of a different coin. By the way - I had to change the entry for my Neptune's Compass geocoin I listed. I had the wrong version entered in the spreadsheet. It's actually the Arctic Ocean version that I have. Just wanted to let everyone know so there was no confusion or misunderstanding. I'm really looking forward to this trade! There's a lot of really great coins listed. Blue skies! I just found this thread and read through it. Seeing the step-by-step progress of this coin toward the final (fabulous) end result was very very interesting. I love that people on the forum made suggestions that ended up being incorporated into the final design without significantly changing the original concept of the coin. It was also fascinating to read the back and forth discussion of metals, enamels, drawing tool features, and mint issues. There certainly appears to be a lot of specialized knowledge involved in getting a design done and having the results from the mint match your expectations. When or if I ever have a personal geocoin minted, I'm convinced now I must seek out help from experienced coin designers or risk botching the coin. When these coins become available, I'll definitely be interested in getting a few. Blue skies! Model Citizen - Zero Discipline

Mystery Coin: Close Encointer of the Third Kind: COINTACT
ModelCitizen replied to FreLeCo's topic in Trackables
Testing of this beautiful, yet enigmatic coin has begun. Today I took the test object into my secret lab and began probing, testing, and experimenting to try to learn its secrets. Many observations were made, physical properties were analyzed, but the source of the test object remains a mystery. Preparing to open the cointaiment packaging to begin analysis of the contents... Testing has begun. Investigating electrical, magnetic, and other properties of the test object. The test object seems to emit radiation fields that have the curious effect of creating feelings of joy and wonder when in the test object's presence... High voltage tests, scanning for internal energy sources... Thermal scan complete. Test object is cool to the touch and an excellent conductor of thermal energy... Testing surface conductivity and other surface and material properties of the test object. These tests seemed to activate the multi-colored dots on the surface, causing them to emit an eerie glow... The mad scientist at work, probing the secrets of the test object... Study of the mysterious test object is continuing. So far, no definitive answers have been discovered for the strange object and its mystifying and unexpected appearance in my postal interface unit. Blue skies! Model Citizen - Zero Discipline -

Spectacular photo, MotoCycleBoi! I love the composition, the dark background, and the depth of field. Here's my latest. This is my Texas Geocaching Association 2006 geocoin I've had in my collection for way too long. Time to let this one go traveling around the geoworld! Its goal will be to visit places in Texas where my family vacationed when I was young(er). If you find it in a cache, please help it along on its journey. Blue skies! Model Citizen - Zero Discipline

I have a lot of coins traveling and what I see most is people picking a coin up, logging it saying they'll place it in another cache soon, then nothing happens. Often the people are brand new geocachers and just loose interest and don't go geocaching anymore. I've had some coins picked up from the very first cache a new geocacher found, then they quit caching and two years later still have my coin in their inventory. Emailing the holder rarely does any good. Right now I have at least 14 geocoins or travel bugs that were retrieved from a cache over four months ago and are still stuck with the person who picked them up. Some have been held for well over two years and will probably never reappear. Since I generally replace missing TBs and GCs after they haven't moved for more than a year, it's hard to tell just how many of my TBs and GCs have dissappeared this way over the years. Lots. I don't think people steal geocoins that often. I think they just forget to move them, loose them in their car, house, or geocaching bag, or quit geocaching. I also did an experiment where I bought two coins every time I purchased a coin. I would release both of them at the same time in the same area. One of the coins would be in pristine condition and the other one would have a big ugly hole drilled in it. I figured if people were stealing coins the drilled coins would have a much better travel history and stay active much longer than the undrilled coins that would be more attractive to theives. What I discovered was that both the drilled and undrilled coins have very similar travel histories and very similar life spans (short). So I really don't believe there are that many people out there stealing geocoins. Blue skies! Model Citizen - Zero Discipline
