  1. My mom also suggested taking a rake up there! We're working on alternatives right now, and if it turns up in the mean time-bonus! Found it!
  2. Instead of hanging it around my neck, with the lanyard, like MBC has asked me to do 173 times (at least!), I stuck it in my pocket temporarily, until I could get up the hill, to find the cache I was looking for, and it fell out. It was green with a black case, and there was a lot of thick ground cover, with ivy, and leaves, so that made it impossible to find. We spent at least 5 hours looking, retracing my steps, all to no avail. The dumb thing is, I usually always carry a knapsack, or a fanny pack, but not that day. Anyway, it's done, and we've dealt with it. We shall live to cache another day! Found it!
  3. Hi Zhanna! This is awesome! Like you said, as much as I enjoy the times spent with others, the best days are the ones where I have no commitments, and print out the cache logs, and off I go! I'm GPS-challenged at the moment, but I'll be back in it soon. Talk to you soon! Found it!
  4. Hi! As my philosophy goes (I must learn to follow it some time!), everything happens for a reason. What the reason is may not be readily obvious, but there IS a reason eventually. I'm so glad to see that there are other women out there who enjoy getting outdoors and doing unconventional things. I know in my part of the world, with all its natural beauty, there are a surprisingly few number of female cachers that I'm aware of. The 3 or 4 that I know are all part of a team or partnership, and wouldn't DARE go on their own! Like you, I find time caching is time for myself, which is also why I love running. It's something I can do alone, if I so desire, or with a group. Anyway, thanks for checking in-it was nice to hear from you! Found it!
  5. What you doing up so early? (or late?) I think an upgrade may be in order, but u never know! Going to bed now-nighty night! Found it!
  6. Well, MarinerBC and I got into it at the same time-it was someone else that took us out, because he knew that we both loved the outdoors, and he didn't want to go alone, as the terrain was challenging. As soon as MBC made his find that day, I knew there would be a GPS in the house within a week-and there was! We've done caches together, but I've done a lot of my 170 finds on my own. I love the challenge of the hunt, the thrill of the find, and playing with a new toy. Between my cell, my PDA, the computer, and the GPS, I have a blast! I don't know any solo women cachers, just a few who are a part of teams. Personally speaking, I can be as feminine as the next girl, but don't have much stock or patience for the traditionally viewed female-type activities (shopping, decorating, what have you). I'd much rather be mucking around on a mountain somewhere, looking for that blasted little container of stuff! Thanks for the thread! cacherunner Found it!
  7. Hey zuuk! Yep, you're right-'Small Potatoes' is a good-natured rib at the format of the KFWB caches. I'm not sure about the KGB business, tho. I know I had a hard time remembering the order of the letters sometimes, so perhaps someone else had the same problem Hope that helps! It's a nice area-check it out! Found it!
  8. To DirtRunner: This thread was not meant to garner sympathy, merely to explain to the many people I've come to know and respect in the caching community, what is going on with me. I've never been one to wallow in self-pity, and that wasn't my goal here. If I don't cache for a while, I don't cache for a while-NBD! Thanks for your concern though! To Dagg:Thanks for the gender clarification! That must explain my bouts of melodrama! I guess I must be one of few solo female geocachers. Granted, MBC and I do cache together, but a lot of the ones I've gotten, I've gotten on my own. To Yellowcode: I have the will, I'm just trying to work on 'the way'. To MBC: Love you!!! Found it! 9. As we speak, I'm gunning for my own GPS-I have a few options available, I think. Any input on the Magellan GPS? Nothing against Garmin, but for my price range, the Magellan 310, or 315, is looking like the best deal. As far as the group effort for Arrowsmith next year, count us in-we'll be back with a vengeance by then, for sure! Happy caching, guys! Found it!
  10. I have slowly come to grips with this. What makes it harder, is that it wasn't my toy to lose. We WILL get back into the game, not to worry. We will at least be back by July, when we have vowed to do your Toys in the Attic, and actually get to the top this time! Your Leech Falls and plantman's #5 were the first 2 caches we ever did, and consequently, you 2 have been our inspirations to try new and exotic (?) places. Thanks for the kind words-see you on the trails soon! Found it!
  11. Fortunately, MBC has come to accept this more quickly than I have, but life goes on! I DO have my running, and, I AM fortunate that I have been able to go a lot of places that others could only dream of, so life is not that bad. And, who knows? Maybe Santa is a geocacher! Thanks again! Gone, but not forgotten
  12. Because of carelessness, and stupidity, I lost MarinerBC's GPSr. As we cannot afford to replace it at this time, I am goig into semi-retirement,probably for several months. I would, however, like to take this opportunity to thank the 170 cachers whose caches I've found, and to the special group of island cachers I had the supreme honour and pleasure of meeting this past Labour Day weekend, and earlier in August here in Victoria, and last but not least, the Cache Cruise Cache Crew. I've had a blast, and will again, I hope. Thanks, you guys! It's been fun. cacherunner
  13. I didn't write this-it was posted on one of MBC's cache pages, and I thought it appropriate. "Phatcache & Geobandit's Adventure - Part IV Ah, now this is what geocaching is all about (or used to be)! After spending the last 36 hours driving through clearcut after clearcut in search of KFWB's Project Northstar and Phantom of the Future caches, we decided to tackle a more traditional cache (actually, there is another reason - we found ourself on the wrong side of a washed out bridge and decided to take the scenic route to the ferry through Cowichan Lake & Duncan)! The various views from the top of Mt. Prevost are incredible, worth well over $1000 (though they did not cover the ferry ride to and from the Island)! I cannot help wondering about the future of geocaching on the Island - what happened to the simple thrill of discovering new places and reading the often humorous logs of previous visitors? I too was disappointed to find Project Northstar which promised BIG $$$ to contain a blank logbook and no cash. Mt. Prevost Summit is an excellent example of what geocaching used to be, and it now contains a fresh package of smiley faced tissues for those who may find themselves a bit emotional over the recent changes to the sport of geocaching. Thanks MarinerBC for a great cache!" Phatcache. My opinions: I just hope that in the mad search for cash, you all keep in mind, when you bolt cut gates, etc., what kind of picture you're painting of the sport, and some (not all) the people who do it. I likely will be retiring, as I recently lost MBC's GPSr, and once I replace it, I will be putting a self-imposed ban on my using it, until I can afford one of my own.
  14. I also wanted to qualify mypoll response, which was 'will attend regardless of location but prefer something more accessible'. marinerBC and I are really looking forward to this event, and hope that it doesn't get scrapped. We likely won't be camping, but a day event would be totally cool, and I'm sure we could find sleeping arrangements, as we have family in the sort-of area Please let us know what you guys decide, and we'll be there! Thanks

  16. I'll double check with marinerBC-have you contacted him as well? I think that would be way cool-pick the time and place so I can book off work-we'll be there! Cheers!
