  1. Wow----I saw earlier today that the General Forum was getting close to this landmark, but thought it would have well passed it by the time I got home. It probably means nothing, but it looked kinda cool to see 10000 topics posted, and I had to go ruin it by posting 10001! How binary! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  2. Oooh! Oooh! Can we post a poll? Can we vote for ourselves (even though we weren't there, but try to prove THAT to some people! )? I know who I'd vote for! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy. [This message was edited by cacherunner on October 24, 2003 at 06:59 PM.]
  3. And it IS possible to get more than one cache a day. For example, when we did the Spokane Cache Machine, we logged 91 caches in 3 days, so anything is possible! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  4. quote:Originally posted by RJFerret: I read somewhere that men prefer giving directions by roads and turns. Women prefer by landmarks and features (behind the such and such). A guy will stereotypically say, take I95 to exit 34, go south on Rt. 1 and make 3rd left on X street. (At which a woman will make 15 turns and drive 3 miles in circles.) A gal will stereotypically say, take the Interstate to the 'anytown' exit, get in the right lane, you'll see a motel across from you where you turn right. You'll pass a Dunkin Donuts then see a gas station on your right, turn into the street across from the station. (At which a man will print out a web map and ignore the directions.) I'm glad you said stereotypically, because landmark navigation drives me up the wall! "You know that the white picket fence where Uncle Joe used to live, you know, right beside the parking lot where they tore down the roller rink? You turn left about 5 minutes past there-you can't miss it!" Just give me an address, and a concrete distance, and don't tell me how many minutes away it is--how do I know you didn't walk there backwards? You are right though-generally speaking, women navigate this way, but I am NOT one of those women! And as far as caching goes, I use the track while driving, then the 'Go To', once I get closer. Actually, once I get close enough, I can usually figure out where it is! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.

  7. quote:Originally posted by jimmyjames:You guys are hilarious...see I told you zuuk...we do have lots of important things to say in these topics about nothing! Hey, there's an idea! We can call it the 'Seinfeld' thread! A thread about nothing. You're right, too, GG, this is pretty amusing stuff for a game. It IS still a game, isn't it? Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  8. Sheesh, and I thought it stood for Read The F______ Map! Shows what I know! BTW, love that ThinkGeek.com! Must get some of those things for MBC! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  9. Hey you two, take it outside, so SeekerBC can have his topic back. Sheesh, the nerve of some people! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  10. Can't wait, can't wait! And it will be much closer to home! We'll decorate the cachecruiser, and be there with lights on!! PS: I voted for the 20th! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy. [This message was edited by cacherunner on October 03, 2003 at 06:59 AM.]
  11. Blah blah blah. Too much talking, not enough caching. Now I remember why I don't go to any more planning group meetings. There's too much planning, and not enough doing! It's a game y'all! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.

  13. Sorry, this is NCR (Not Caching Related) cutsandbruises, I LOVE your avatar!!! That is one seriously PO'd looking kitten. Is that yours, or a pic you got from somewhere else? Too funny! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  14. Oh,Travis, I'm so sorry. MBC and I went through this TWICE in 18 months, so we know how overwhelming it can be. Fortunately, everyone is OK at your end. Just remember: stuff can be replaced-YOU can't be!! Please let us know if there's anything we can do, or if you just want to talk. Please take care. You're in our thoughts and prayers. 15. quote:Originally posted by seneca:I have no problem with a “new twist” on the game provided that everyone agreed that this is how its going to be played. At present, by playing the game on Geocaching.com, we have all effectively agreed that one finds the cache, signs the log book, takes something and leaves something of equal or greater value, and otherwise leaves the cache exactly as it was found. I could hardly complain if someone finds my cache (my property) and takes something from it and leaves something of equal or greater value - I have agreed to play that way. Beyond the basic rules, Geocachers as a group, strongly support and adhere to a collective ethic which requires the property of others to be respected. The appropriately called “pirates” (who by definition act without consent or authority) clearly do not support this ethic. If someone wants to ethically engage in a new game, where caches can randomly be moved by "surprise", then they would either have to get the rule change adopted by Geocaching.com, or start a new Geocaching site with different rules, and its own cache listings. It is interesting that they do call themselves “pirates”, which I accept as a candid acknowledgment that what they are doing contravenes the common Geocaching ethic of respecting the property of others. Thank you! That was what I was trying to say-well put!! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  16. quote: Mind enlightening us all with the whole TEAM KFWB GPS(DOT) story? Everyone knows it was him as the caches were placed under his (geo-trekker's) ID. I can place a cache and in the placer name put MarinerBC, but if you click on it it'll show you the true profile of who placed the cache. I don't understand how Geo-Trekker is claiming his innocence on this. I think everyone is owed an explanation of the truth. With so much "real" evidence pointing to him on that one it's kinda difficult to believe other wise. OK, I did a bit of digging-not a lot really, it was pretty easy, and I found This thread and The profile in question and This is banned? Where's the 'real' evidence? I don't see the proof that it was G-T, and like you, I'm a firm believer of innocent until proven guilty. Granted, I do not condone his accusations of Pharmadude and the many others. That's not right, either. Where I believe MBC was going with his thread was, not only was Foghorn Leghorn rehashing an ancient issue, he was accusing us of being co-conspirators. You may be aware of something I'm not, but I still don't see any proof of G-T being the Fake KFWB Team. Doesn't really matter to me, being so much water under the bridge, but since you brought it up, I thought I would offer my final thoughts on it. Let's leave it all, shall we? Thanks! 'nuff said. Hope all you kayakers have an awesome trip, and I'm sure you'll have great stories upon your return! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy. 17. quote:Hello geo-trekker,Was it they who supplied you with the GPS co-ordinates for the two false TEAM KFWB GPS(DOT) caches on vancouver island? Well, Foggy, just stopped by to stir the pot, did you? First, I wager that GeoTrekker got the co-ords the way we all did-there's this website called 'Geocaching.com', you see, and it's really cool, because they post co-ordinates on these things called 'cache pages'. You should try it some time! By the way, I see you have been out of town for a while too. Jomarac: I believe I will use the image, if you don't mind-goodness knows I wouldn't want to 'pirate' anything! Sorry to hear about your dilemma-trust me, I know what it's like to be falsely accused of something (see above) Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  18. quote: posted September 19, 2003 11:20 AM I'm sorry, I don't understand how the pirating is fundamentally different from any other geocaching. Here's what I've seen: Geocaching: - find the cache - sign the log and return it to the cache - put a trade item in the cache (optional) - take something from the cache (only if put something) - rehide it where it was - log the find on geocaching.com Pirate caching: - find the cache - "sign the log" (with a sticker in the case I saw) and return it to the cache - put a card, letter, map, and some trinkets in the cache (trade items) - take all the other trade items in the cache - rehide the cache (with log) where it was - rehide the entire contents somewhere else (with additional pirate loot) - log clues on piratecaching.com for someone to find and "rescue" the contents (sometimes a delay on the clues) The bolded area is where it's different. I re-iterate: What if someone has travelled to your cache from out of town, doesn't have immediate access to a computer, is not aware of 'pirating', and doesn't want to go traipsing around looking for the rest of the cache? What if they're 'closeminded' , like me, and just want to enjoy the cache as is, as it was originally intended? BUT- I like the idea of: Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  19. quote: If by chance they left the keys to a new Avalance in the drivers seat when I found it 150' over I'd probably get over it. That's if they leave any seats in your car when you find it! PS Thanks, Bug and Snake! I knew there was someone else out there who felt this way! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  20. quote: No one is *taking* anything here - in fact the opposite is true but you've decided to avoid giving that aspect of it even the slightest mention in your reply. Yes...........they are taking something. The fact that they're putting it somewhere else is irrelevant. My principle is: I like it where it's hidden. That's why I put it there. I don't want it moved. And I referred to that aspect several times in my posts. quote: I am a bit curious as to what you think you *could do* if someone were to pirate your cache, either in the manner of this playful pirate, or of a person completely unattached to caching taking your cache. Seriously, I'd be interested to know how you could find this person and even give them a hope of letting God help 'em. Seems like a very unreasonable statement to make. If you read my reply to Wile E., you would see that the comment was intended partially in jest. You're right. If someone wants to take something of mine, there's little I can do about it. Like I said, I guess I was brought up wrong. And the first time one of my caches gets plundered, they'll all be gone. Childish, maybe. But so is taking what's not yours. I learned that when I was 2, shortly after I learned to read. Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  21. I shouldn't, but I will: Wile E. : quote: Edit: I mean with regards to the "God help 'em if they do, cuz no one else will" part. - WE I should have followed that with a , but in a way I DO mean it. I have always been protective of what's mine, and I took the time to create and hide the cache where it is, and I have little patience for those who take or tamper with things that are not theirs. Which brings me to: Robert M: quote: Arrrr, now who on the Island is up to the task? I realize that most people will do what you tell them not to do, when they know it bothers you. I accept that. And if someone is going to plunder my cache, they will. And if it gives them satisfaction, there's nothing I can do about that. It's just a little hidden container. But I took the time to put it where it is now, and people should respect that. J5: quote: However, it is not effecting every person that goes to your cache, only one person that is looking for your cache is being effected. From the majority of responses today, it seems that most people would like to find one of these caches that have been plundered in this manner. Then the pirates can plunder their caches. And it's 'affect', the verb, not 'effect', the noun. Not bad, eh, Dagg? quote:Considering that the pirates were previously taking the entire cache away, I'd say this is a scenario that is a good compromise. So rather than someone stealing your car outright, it would be better if they just moved it, and told you where you could find it, right? If you guys don't get the concept of not taking what doesn't belong to you, trust me, I understand. It's a product of the times and the environment. I guess I was just brought up wrong. PS, if you've read this far, I don't take things as seriously as you might think. It is, after all, only a game, and these fora have been FAR too boring lately, don't you agree? Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  22. When I go to a cache and take something, I put something of equal or greater value in. While open to the idea of new elements of the sport, I DO NOT like the idea of someone taking the contents of my cache (they haven't done it yet, and God help 'em if they do, cuz no one else will), and moving it. If I wanted it moved, I wouldn't have put it there in the first place! If I wanted it to be a 2 stage cache, I would have created it that way! I especially don't like the idea of someone from out of town, visiting on a cache trip, coming upon my cache, and finding it plundered! quote:The cache owner is not inconvenienced by any of this either, as the cache contents are not far away and are returned to the cache by the person who finds it. You hope! Like I said, if I had wanted it to be a multi, I would have planted it that way. Respect the caches the way they are, and the spirit in which they were planted. If you want your caches to be plundered, have at 'er! Just an opinion. Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  23. Hey George! MBC and I plan on being in the area on Thursday evening, and are definitely up for some cachin' action on Friday! Hope to see you then! Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
  24. quote: O CanadaI dont think he found it... Not to be confused with... (shameless plug! ) Real cachers don't smell like Fleecy.
