  1. That's awesome that you'll be coming, MTB!! Snow caching will just add that extra little something to the experience!
  2. Thanks, leatherman!! That looks really cool! We'll be heading down to WA this week, and will definitely check the store out, as we don't have those here!
  3. I am a self-professed UTM convert, and now a UTM snob. I like being able to compare real distances, as UTM is in metres. The d/m/s thing on Lat/Long doesn't do it for me, and the less I have to figure out the better. I found, however, that when we were in the US a few months ago, that local cachers did things exclusively in Lat/Long. That's OK, and it's good that metres and yards are fairly close together in distance, so I can convert from metric to Imperial, and sound like I belong! I also like that CacheMate on my Palm converts Lat/Long into UTM, so I have them both on the same screen. VERY ! Anyway, that's where I stand! PS for ICQLOVE: I have a Rino 120, and you can have it in whatever format you choose! On the Setup screen, choose Units, and then just change your Position Format to whatever you like! Hope that helps-good luck!
  4. BRAVO!!!!!! YAY PEPPER!! Looking forward to seeing y'all in Olympia!
  5. I just like bringing up the Rino page to hear the stampeding Rhino...hee hee! I'm fine with my 120-I don't need the altimeter and all that jazz. I got the maps, I got the radio, I got the lanyard that doesn't come unscrewed-I'm golden! I did some research on it, and took off the belt clip as soon as I got it, because I'd heard about too many people losing theirs, I've lost my quota of GPSr's (one, for those who are curious), and I didn't care to continue the tradition. I've also been busy exploring my Zire 21, and seeing how it will enrich my caching experience ( a lot so far! ). Looking forward to taking Mr. Rino and Mr. Zire to Olympia for the cache machine to see how well they get along. If they don't, at least I can play Battleship on the Zire!
  6. You most certainly can enter co-ords in it! What kind of GPS would it be if you couldn't! I agree that you should read the manual. I have 2 other eTrexes, so I am familiar with where things are. In addition to entering co-ords with the click stick, on the main menu screen, there should be a 'Mark' feature, which does the same thing. The Rino's great, once you figure out all the things it can do, and if you get MapSource in there, oh boy! Have fun, and good luck!
  7. All I want is a quiet day with MBC, watching movies, drinking coffee, sitting in my jammies all day. I know I won't get it, though. There's just too much to do, and too many people making demands on our time. That's what I want for Christmas. Time!
  8. Gak! I couldn't even make it past the :33 mark!
  9. Hey GR! Sounds great! Wait til you see the new toys we have! MBC has tricked up the MeriPlat, so it works almost as good as Junior! Looking forward to meeting up with you!
  10. Yay!!!!! A store here!!!! Toys! Toys! Toys! And stuff! I like stuff (listening, Santa?) Thank you Groundspeak! Thank you Capitalpete! Hear that noise? It's the sound of all the Victoria cachers stampeding to your store. Cool! As an aside, have fun with the Rinos, especially the 120. I just got one, and am enjoying all the things it can do.

I've got one as well - got it in a cache Team it up with one of these and you're in business. Hey now! I just finished paying for MBC's most recent toy, now he'll want these too! Just means I'll have to get him a bigger toybox!
  12. Those are so awesome, Pepper! Are ours in there somewhere? Looking forward to seeing y'all, if we can get off this God-forsaken rock in January. Thank goodness the US ferries are running just fine-that's how we'll be coming!

Hear hear! I'll probably get roasted for saying this, but unions have outlived their usefulness. They were good in the 20's and 30's when workers were being abused, but now their purpose seems to be more about guaranteeing jobs for union leaders, less about the workers, and the people they're supposed to be providing the 'service' for. We live on an island by choice, granted, but should we be punished for it? No! My .02
  14. No, no, no, it's pronounced Tronno! I'm a resident of one of the colonial outposts on an island west of the Rockies somewhere. I think the capital of the province is somewhere around here, but don't tell Ontarians that-they'll want to retire here!
  15. Mine too! Being brought up that you must never go rooting around someone's yard, it was very liberating to not only have express permission, but to be able to talk to the 'ghost' in question! One of my faves too!
  16. If its help handin those out, I could help. Of course I don't know if any will be left to hand out, after I test them. Thanks George! You may have a vast selection to 'test' from, so don't worry! We WERE going to bring TimBits , but I don't think US Customs would let us do that. Apparently, they're getting really stickly with cross-border food, effective December 12th. I hope we'll be OK with the candy bars though. We'll see.
  17. Whaddya mean you might not be coming? You have to! Who's going to distribute the Wunderbars??
  18. I'm sure you could use one of ours while we're there, cuz we sure don't plan on stopping at dark! We also have handy dandy headlamps! Oooooh.....Ahhhhhhh.....
  19. We're going to be in town on New Year's Day, so we'll be fresh as daisies and ready to go!! Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones! I know MBC already asked, but does anyone know of any hotels that have High Speed Internet access? It's not crucial, as we may have the PDA by then, but it would still be nice! 4 more weeks!!
  20. And for the record, MBC and I were in the vicinity when Plantman made his find. Daylight was not on our side. It's definitely one I'd try again, weather permitting, but there's one thing I would do differently. When I go, it will be the only cache I do that day, not the 5th one, at the end of the day, like MBC and Plantman insisted. It's a fantastic spot, and definitely worth visiting.
  21. There are different challenges in this game, and different elements that make it fun, but I think that for overall satisfaction, I would take a day to do something that would have visual rewards at the end, as well as being satisfied at having accomplished a physical feat. The numbers thing is fun, but it should be tempered from time to time, with the places in nature that keep us humble, such as: Plantman 3 Mt. Empress Leech Falls
  22. It's actually..... Sorry, when it comes to spelling, I just have to jump in! Don't even get me started on the 'loose' vs 'lose' issue. I can't win there.
  23. I'm so glad I live in a place where I am free to hide and find caches in provincial and national parks (so far). As others have said, Les, maybe you should find a cache or 10 before trying to amend the rules of a sport you have no comprehension of. I say this because you have logged no hides or finds, so how could you possibly know how things work in the first place? I have been doing this for a year and a half, and have found a paltry 506 caches in Canada and the U.S., so I know a little of what I speak. Your arguments would garner a bit more respect if you actually participated.
  24. Even though our Thanksgiving was last month, I'm still thankkful for the fact that I have the best geocaching partner (MarinerBC), and that we share a common obsession. I'm also thankful that I'm healthy enough to go out and do this, and that my family is healthy, and that my business is doing well, and that I have met so many awesome people via this activity. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends and cachers. Enjoy!
