  1. My Geo-Cats.... Wait till you see what I hid in here! I eat signature items for lunch!
  2. What have you been doing with all your fabulous winnings??
  3. Gee, Telus having problems?? Imagine that!!
  4. So where are all the BC cachers? Hmmmmmmmm?? I'm not sure about the mainland, but we in Victoria have a few 'legends' in different categories Cool caches/awesome generosity: Team KFWB/ X-Treme GPS Team Prolific hiding/teaching us to cache sans GPS: Sandpiper 7 'Pro' cachers extraordinaire: Team Phoenix Beautiful locations/physically challenging caches: (tie) Eroyd and Plantman Cool, challenging, caches/most finds on the Island (male): MarinerBC Coolest caching couple/best dressed: Buzzle and Brieze Coolest caching family: Eroyd, cachewidow, v-royd, and c-royd That's all off the top of my head-I'm surprised that no-one has piped in before now. There are lots more, I'm sure!
  5. FYI, I have requested that the thread be closed. What is the point? We have the Team , the other guys don't and I think they're jealous! The Team has added a different element to the sport, and I'll repeat-if you don't like them, don't do them, but don't criticize those that do them. Peace out. 'nuff said.
  6. Who needs to re-visit a thread that was dealt with over a year ago?
  7. Which one? "Watch out for that tree!" (kidding! )
  8. That's what I was thinking!
  9. The 30th would work better for me, but we'll see what the consensus is.
  10. I'm a firm believer that the game (and life) is what you make it, and you get out of it what you put into it. If you choose to go and find little boxes in the woods, which has its own element of challenge, then do that. If you enjoy the little added elements that have been introduced to the activity, then do that. Please don't criticize those that can do both. If there's an aspect of the game you don't want to do, or don't feel you can do, then it's easy-don't do it. It's NOT all about FTF's and big competitions. Personally speaking, I like variety. I like the simplicity of finding a Lock/Lock under a log, and going for a hike to a mountaintop in the snow, and coming down, just as the sun is setting. I also like challenging my mind, working out puzzles, and discovering abilities I didn't know I had. I like the thrill of knowing I might get somewhere first, and not for the money, because I used to do that back in the day, where we used to have to wait for new caches to come out. Part of the fun, was seeing who could beat Plantman to a new cache, because he was always up early, and got there before the rest of us were even up! It was in good fun, and that's how I perceived it then, and now. This game is what you make it. Live and let live. Peace.
  11. Are you really committed to getting a Yellow one? Reason I ask is, if you do research on eBay, you'll be able to find a refurbished Legend for anywhere between $140-$170. The Legend has mapping capabilities, an interface cable (the yellow doesn't-it's an extra $35)and so much more. Depends on what you want it to do. I find that anything from the Venture up is much better, if you want to upgrade.
  12. Thanks! I've done T-shirt transfers before-it's fun! What do I owe you for that?
  13. First of all, welcome to the sport-you'll have a blast! MarinerBC and I have been caching since May of 2002, and have never looked back. At first, we would go together, but when I got my own GPS, and gained more sense of how things worked ( I love new toys! ), I would go on my own. We have gone to event caches, social gatherings, and have met lots of great people. It IS a great way to combine getting outdoors, and technology. I sometimes look at caching as a great hike with rewards at the end! The reward could be the view, the cache, the trip, or a combination! BTW, we're about the same age as you, and know people of all ages, families, couples, singles, older folks-it's great for everyone! Good luck-you'll have fun! Me MBC Our most recent event cache
  14. I don't have a credit card, and I wanted to order a couple of sweatshirts. Thing is, I live in BC, and it won't let me use the Money Order option. I can get a US funds money order here, and send it, even though it will be via snail mail. Is there any way around this? I REALLY want a couple! PS. Great logo!
  15. I'm sure all those Wunderbars Pepper has will give y'all some energy! BTW, Pepper, I saw the Snolympia T-shirts advertised somewhere, but can't remember where-can you help?
  16. I am guilty of that, sort of. I didn't find the cache, but DID find the rock. I did NOT log the cache, however, because I didn't find it. I presumed that there was some sort of no-find thing regarding the rock, as there were other stickers on it. I was mistaken, and should not have put the sticker on the rock. Me too. Sorry. We didn't log the finds. When I saw 'Find a new place'. in the cache description at Madison, I thought it was a moving cache, and thought that was part of the cache. Oops! I found the cache at Bing's Swings, so no worries there, and I never got us to the Shaker Church (sorry gang! ), so no worries there either. Next time we're in the neighbourhood, we'll check 'em out!
  17. Hey, Cin, ask Pepper what she has in her cupboard for you! Too bad you and Jeff couldn't make it-we missed you guys-you would've had a blast-there were 11 crazy Canucks there in total!
  18. Thanks, TG!! I was (slowly) getting around to suggesting that. I know it's a long way ahead, but have a look. Nanaimo I'm sure by the time it rolls around, there will be a few more caches around to do. Think about it!

    La Snow!

I know at least one person who would go swimming in Winter! Seriously though, skip the Vista.....go Rino!! If you're hot and heavy for a Vista, the Rino 130 will fit your needs, AND it has a radio, so you and GC don't have to do any more bushwhacking on Mt. Doug!
  20. Oh yeah! PDA Claus brought me a Palm Zire 21, so I can now do paperless caching-it is SOOOO cool! Hey Cin, we should bring our laser range finder that we got for the most recent contest we did. It rocks! We'll be there with all our bells and whistles!
  21. No problem! It is my pleasure! I wish there had been this much help and info when I was starting out. Just for the record, WGS84 is just how a map is calibrated. Probably the most 2 widely used formats are Lat/Long and UTM. Have fun!
  22. Hi! Yes, you got the right one. Where do you enter the co-ords from? I use the Mark feature, and you should be able to enter the UTM as it appears on the cache page. The UTM co-rds are right under the Lat/Long ones. The UTM on the cache pages have the E and N before the co-ords, but on the GPS, it's not necessary to enter them. Also, for the Easting number, the 0 is implied on the cache page, but the GPS requires you to enter it. Provided you're caching in your home area, and not too far out of your UTM zone, you can just arrow past the zone (in my case 10 U) and enter the numbers. Hope this helps! One of mine Email me through the site, if you have any further questions, and I'll do what I can!
  23. We met one of our best friends and mentors while caching! We were aware of his existence prior to actually meeting up with him, which was quite by chance. It's kind of hard to miss the look of someone seeking a cache. We didn't have to ask why the other was there, and as long as someone found it, that was OK. Let your mantra be: It's just a game I do this for fun It's not a contest To be the first one There will always be others! I just wish I could teach that to some of the cachers around here!
