  1. How do you recalibrate the touch screen? Turn the unit off, then turn it back on and HOLD the power key until the prompt comes up. It takes about 30-40 seconds but it feels like an eternity! JetSkier
  2. I'll try (again) the drag and drop menu change, didn't seem to work the first time though (but am still learning stuff here soooo....). On mine you select an icon, and then select another one and they switch locations. Not sure if this is how its always been done. I'm currently on v 3.10. Somewhere between the 2.8 and 3.10 releases (during the beta phase), the main menu setup interface changed. It used to be that you selected the one you wanted to move and then you had to continuously select the up or down arrow to get it where you want it. It was a pain but the new interface is really good! JetSkier
  3. I agree, we all have the choice to use what suits us, good to have choice! The setup you mention....unless you can edit the main menu (which I've yet to find out how) so that the list is in the order I would rather see, I can't find this unit to be simpler than the PN-40 was. Your procedure lacks the automotive view (where the maps are set up to look like a Nuvi or other car unit would), which is what I would like to see anytime I am routing to the cache. The only way to do this (as I have seen thus far, maybe I'm still missing something?) is to change profiles which is outlined in the procedures I posted in the OR/PN-40 thread. Roddy, Under "Setup" -> "Map" -> "Orientation", you can set any of you profiles to be in Automotive mode. Other GPS units call it 3D view as opposed to 2D view. As BetaMan and Maingray were stating, you can re-arrange the main menus pretty easily so that the things you use the most are on either the first or 2nd page. Makes things a LOT easier to use. I agree that if you use the defaults, it's pretty hard to navigate around. JetSkier
  4. I have an Oregon 300 and I turn the backlight on and leave it on. It reduces the battery life, but it's certainly readable even outdoors in the sun. You may have to tilt it a bit to get a better viewing angle, but I really don't see a problem with it. Since I use rechargable batteries, I'm not concerned about the reduced battery life. I still get around 10 hours of battery life with it. JetSkier
  5. Garmin just released a non-beta firmware for the Oregon series ... see this thread. There's no need to back up to an older beta. JetSkier
  6. One of the betas changed the way you move them. You select the one that you want to move, it highlights. Then you select the position that you want it in and it will swap into that position. It's a lot easier. JetSkier
  7. I can't reproduce. Drag finger from very bottom of screen? Maingray, Drag from anywhere on the screen and release your finger while it is in the button at the top. You have to have a "pushpin" and the button at the top of the screen. JetSkier
  8. The following bug still exists. I've reported it a couple of times. With this image If you drag the map and release your finger in the button that says "Eastwood Golf Club", you'll get this: JetSkier
  9. I know what you mean (I have the exact same setup) and I didn't have that problem in 3.01. I guess that some devices worked and some had this problem you mention. As I've mentioned many times in the Beta threads, only my Automotive profile was not working with Spanner mode. My other profiles were working properly. With 3.10, my Automotive works great with Spanner mode. It may have just been a particular setting that was causing the bug. JetSkier
  10. My spanner mode is now working properly when I plug in my USB cable. They've fixed that since 3.01 beta. JetSkier
  11. Here's a recent Topic about it. I'm sure there's more if you search in the Geocaching.com Website forum. JetSkier
  12. Make sure you have one of the "Days to Generate" checked before you submit it, otherwise it will never run. JetSkier
  13. The easiest way is to unzip your PQ, connect the Oregon to the Computer in Mass Storage mode and copy the gpx files directly to the unit @ [Drive]:\Garmin\GPX. Restart the Oregon and the caches are there. This is also how you would remove caches from the unit. Manually delete the gpx files from that same folder. JetSkier
  14. Mine has problems when it's in spanner mode AND it's only one of my profiles ... my automotive. If I turn spanner mode on for any of the other profiles, it works fine. I've sent my automotive profile to oregonbeta@... but haven't heard anything back. JetSker
  15. I simply copy the GPX files directly to the Unit when it's in mass storage mode ([Drive:]\Garmin\GPX). You don't need GSAK if that's all you are going to use it for. To remove the GPX files, you simply navigate to that same drive and delete the GPX files. JetSkier
  16. Sometimes when I mark a cache as found my 300 is not updating the find count. Anyone else notice this? JetSkier
  17. I'm still having a problem with one of my profiles in spanner mode. It'll only go into mass storage mode (or ask me) if the unit is already turned on. My other profiles seem to work fine. I sent my profile and image to OregonBeta ... JetSkier
  18. Under "Setup" -> "Routing", do you have "Lock on Road" turned on? If so, that may be the problem. Try turning it off and see if you get the same results. JetSkier
  19. I'm sure Florida caches would already know this but Glass is responsible for most of the fires here in florida. In a dry spell, the sun heats up the glass to a point where it can ignite the surronding vegitation. So, in my opinion, Glass is a bad idea no matter how you look at it. JetSkier
  20. I don't recommend loading the 2.99 beta firmware. 2.98 seems to be pretty stable. As for the maps, I just use City Navigator. JetSkier
  21. I have an old directroute on my XP machine and it's a resource hog. I have to close all open programs, close any messenger programs (Yahoo Messenger and Skype) and then sometimes it'll run. Try that with your Vista. JetSkier
  22. Firmware 5.x is the autorouting firmware for the Meridians. The Yellow and Green never got a 5.x firmware update. They just didn't have enough internal memory for the extra code required for auto-routing. The maps will load fine, but that's all they'll do. JetSkier
  23. FlagMan, same thing happened to me (see my post above). When I "coaxed" it into Mass Storage mode, I just deleted the gupdate.gcd to "un-brick" it. I think anyone who has installed this beta is "stuck" with it until Garmin comes up with another release. Since this version doesn't like to read the gupdate.gcd file, I'm wondering if we'll all have to send our units back to get the next version installed. On a positive note, the unit functioned perfectly and accurately yesterday when I went out and did 2 caches. JetSkier
  24. I tried to downgrade to 2.98 by running the 2.98 exe. It copyied the update file to the unit but when I tried to re-boot it bricked! I tried several times and it would show the Garmin text, then my startup text and then shut down. I had to do the trick where you hold the power button after you plug the USB cable in. That got it connected so I could then erase the update file from the unit. Now it boots, but I'm "stuck" with 2.99. JetSkier
