  1. I usually approach the cache from the East so that I may easily surprise it...just kidding. I approach and act as if I am supposed to be there. I have only been questioned twice and both times I had to explain what geocaching was. I would hate to tell some story and have that person later find out I wasn't honest, which in my opinion would give geocaching a bad name. Since I always have my iphone with me it is no trouble for me to show them the 2 minute video from the website.
  2. My brother in California recently had a problem with an "Evil penny" cache. He glued a penny to to the lid of a small tube and placed it into the ground so that a person walking by would only see the penny. Now in my opinion a penny that is glued to the lid is now an extension of the container, so part of the container is even with the surface of the ground. By definition* this cache is not "buried." Reviewer refused to publish cache citing "buried." *Since it is easiest to just google the definition of "buried," this is the definition I go by.
  3. I live in the DFW area, so I primarily use my iphone with unlimited data. If I am going to an area that I know has poor cellular reception, I will load caches onto my gpsmap62st.
  4. There have been several times I emailed the CO about the cache asking for confirmation of its existence. In most cases when I have done this, the CO just archived it. However if the CO has not been active for greater than 6 months I will log a NA.
  5. So I got a couple people that actually answered the question: thank you! A couple of people who ASSume that I am going to automatically accuse someone of cache destruction: not helpful. Some people that are talking about a cache that was archived over a year ago: way off topic and really not even an attempt at being helpful.
  6. So 2 of my geocaches have gone missing. Both were found on 8/28, then the next log afterwards for both state that there is no longer a container. Could be a coincidence, but these caches are almost 8 miles apart. So I was wondering if there is a way for me to check and see who has been viewing my geocaches online? I would hate to think that someone might be devious enough to steal/discard containers. Thanks for any help!
  7. When I started out I would just use the acronym, but now I almost always include the time of day I found it and usually include information for the cache owner such as the condition of the container, whether the log is almost full or if it is wet. This is the minimum amount of information I type in my logs.
