I just got a 1 gig microsd card for my legend cx. Do I need to format it? How do I do that?
-
I have a Legend CX and I have City Nav 8 in the mail coming to me. I need a Micro SD card. Anyone have any trouble with the 1 gig version and the Legend CX? Also where's some good places to shop for a card pricewise? Once I've installed City Nav 8 how do you switch from that map to the Topo Map if both are loaded on the Legend CX? Thanks for any and all help!

Legend CX,CN, and 1 gig micro SD card - anyone tried this yet and has it worked fine?
-
the legend CX only has its original firmware 2.20 815 maps totaling 229mb. Any word from Garmin on this yet?

The Vista C listed at $299 at the Sport Chalet but they gave it to me for $265 since it was a display model. I really dont care about the price difference between the Vista C and The Vista CX that much I keep thinking that it must be a valuable feature to be able to expand memory or interchange memory cards. So the new units you are speaking about are the Vista Cx. Tim K Vista C's are going for $199. at alot of places. Vista CX's are going for about $350.

Can I load sections of both Garmin US Topo map and CN on my legend CX at the same time? Or can it only access one map at a time?

Inaccurate Etrex Legend Cx?

My Legend CX is accurate - cached with someone with a Vista C and someone with a Magellan color screen model, dunno which one. We all had similar readings. I suspect it's your unit. -
Which Website Is Best For Purchasing A Gps Unit ?
DangerJudy replied to General Urko's topic in GPS technology and devices
GPSNOW had the lowest price I could find for the legend CX, with 2 day shipping. And GPSDiscount has nice bundles on some models. -
I found the same thing in mine. I wonder if they all have the 64 meg? And what about the Vista CX's?
-
Right, sorry, I read too fast... Could someone explain the difference between the 'regular' compass on the CX and the 'special' compass on the CSX?
-
Just got a Legend CX; cheapest price shipped I could find was via GPSNow with 2 day Fed Ex.
-
Well I got a freebie too - my new Legend CX came with a 64 meg microSD chip in it rather than a 32 meg. Maybe they were out of the 32 megs when it was assembled. Anyway it's like finding a tiny surprise cache! Thanks Garmin.

Certainly possible, but I don't think it's probable. Garmin has always kept memory cards separate for map storage on previous units like the eMap, 276/376/396/etc., and various StreetPilots. And in addition to firmware changes on the unit it would probably require MapSource changes since MapSource currently starts each map download by erasing everything previously loaded on the card. People wouldn't be too happy to find all their waypoints gone when they just wanted to add some maps. For units that accept the custom POI files that seems like a nice alternative and offers better associated notes. But AFAIK you can't mark the POIs as found or modify them in the field the way you can with waypoints. SO let me try and work though this in my head, never having owned a GPS before - you could load your waypoints etc. in the main memory (24 megs on the legend cx?) and load a huge chunk of maps on the micro-SD card if you got the 512, but these maps would not have waypoints i.e. cache locations stored where the gps would direct you to them. What can be done with the maps is directions to stored Points Of Interest, just not, specifically, geocaches, nor can you mark the POI's 'found' like you can waypoints. So - The maps aren't as useful for geocaching as they would be with waypoints, but are still quite useful for directions i.e. finding that restaurant in Asheville on XYZ street. The number of waypoints you can store in the on-board memory is still presumed to be 500 at a time? And the number of POI's on the micro-SD memory - is there a limit to how many of those you can store? Does it depend on the size of the micro-SD storage? I have been caching 'old school' for the past month with a borrowed Magellin GPS 315. So this matter of waypoints etc. is still a mystery to me!

Could a firmware upgrade allow waypoints on the micro-SD card? I wondered if that is even *possible*.

Toasted New Legend Cx...but I'm Happy!
DangerJudy replied to HighlandPC's topic in GPS technology and devices
Regarding the car adapter frying the first one, what I would do is take a multimeter and check that the output of the car adapter is correct. That way you could know that at least the juice going into the GPS is what it's supposed to be and could be pretty sure that the problem was in the original unit not your car adapter. -

What little problems have you had? I'm planning to get one of these this weekend... -
I'm looking, too. It depends on what your needs are. For me, the idea of having expandable memory seems handy so I'm considering the Legend CX, which is also around $250. The only other one I've considered is really out of my price range, but it has a better antenna - the GPS 60CX.
-
OK between these two what are the pros and cons? Here's what I've gathered - Explorist 500- better antenna/accuracy/signal strength Legend CX- uses regular batteries/smaller size/autorouting Anything else?

Hmmm. Looking for prices for my post above I found this. (Legend CX = $249) + (Auto Nav kit with CS 6 = $140) +(Shipping and insurance = $6.95) = total $395 from GPSdiscount. (Vista CX Auto Value Pack - this has CN 7 DVD , free shipping and $2.15 insurance) = $431.15. So for $36 more you get CN 7 DVD and a Vista instead of a Legend. Go up one more notch and you get a GPSMAP 60 CX with the same Auto Value Pack ans the Vista for $488.

___________________________________________________________________ The Vista CX is alot more money than the Vista C or Legend CX.. Vista C/Legend CX = $250, Vistz CX = $349 at gps discount.

I use NiMH batteries in my digital camera while paddling and it's amazing how much longer they last. I bought them at greenbatteries.comwhich has a great FAQ about battery life storage etc. I got the Sanyo 2300 mAh - now they have the 2500. Example - I used to use two AA Duracell batteries every 2 river trips. Now I use one charge of the NiMH batteries every 7 river trips! Each trip might last 5 hours but I'm turning on and off the camera ALOT so it's not on the entire time - just when I"m in a good place to stop and get a shot.

The thing is, if you get City Select, and there is no upgrade path left, aren't you buying a dead end? Whereas if you get Navigator does that mean you get a free upgrade to the newest version when it comes out, or do you have to pay for the newer version? As for SD cards it seems like getting a bigger card would be a smart thing to do right off the bat. Is there a limit to the size the CX would take?
-
If you got a Legend CX, would you get Select or Navigator with it? Is ver. 7 of Select the last update of Select since Garmin is discontinuing it?

I am looking at buying my first GPS. My friend who got me started geocaching has either a Legend C or Vista C. So I've been looking at those models. I want to stay under $250. Thing is, here is how the pricing is looking: Legend C - best deal @$200. Vista C - best deal @$240. But the new Legend CX - best deal around $240. hmmm. Same price as Vista C, doesn't have the barometer and compass but does have expandable memory. What would I be more likely to ever use? For some reason, the Vista CX's are running about $340 - wonder why the price jump is so much - Anyway, it would seem to me that, at least for geocaching, they would all do, but it would make sense to get the Legend CX because it has expandable memory. But again I'm a newbie so any advice appreciated.
