  1. I have sent him a polite email and just hope he does something with the trackable
  2. I released my geocache in France in April and its mission is to return to me in England. However a french geocacher has picked it up and kept it for over a month although he has been geocaching many times in that period and logged a visit for many of the caches. Should i contact him and ask him politely to drop of the trackable. Or is there a politer option? Thanks so much Olly
  3. OK. I think i understand now, it is not technically against the guidelines but it is bad etiquette and you should only really log the find if you have been to the place and thought about the earthcache at the place. So even if you know the area well, and have even studied the area and get all the questions correct it is considered bad practice to count it as a find? Because i know on the guidelines it says you can make an earthcache to areas you have visited on holiday up to 3 months before. many thanks for confirming this to me.
  4. I haven't logged any like that yet, i was just wondering if it was possible, Also i always answer all the questions to earthcaches although i have got some wrong. (I have set up 4 earthcaches and found 5)
  5. so you wouldn't recommend me logging one in a place i say visit or live next to all summer and can also answer all the questions, but not visited with the intent of finding the earthcache? Also unrelated, is it bad to not answer a question in an earthcache if say you didn't have enough time to read through the noticeboards or you didn't understand them because they were in a different language?
  6. What would happen if i visited a place a few months before and then later realised there was an earthcache and could answer all the questions correctly. I still learn about the geology but i didn't think about it at the place. Does it count as a find?
  7. I am assuming everyone is swapping the $ they find in the cache for something of the same value (i am ignoring FTF prizes). The point of geocaching is not to earn money but is to have fun finding the cache, you are not meant to come back from caching with more money or stuff than you came back with, (unless you legitimately swapped in the cache)
  8. Just tested the army water bottle for a couple of hours, it didn't work at all, there was already a considerable amount of water in it
  9. I just found an ex army water bottle (one of the green plastic ones). It has got a narrow top, but I could make a way to take out the log and things without problems, but would it be waterproof enough? water bottle Thanks so much Olly
  10. Hi I am thinking of hiding a 1 litre geocache on a bar in an estuary which uncovers at low tide. How would I waterproof it properly, is it possible to use a quality lock n lock? Or do I need something more substantial? Thanks in advance Olly
  11. Hi I have been thinking of some caches that would get me lots of favourite points or make the cacher completely clueless on where the cache could be, does anyone have any good ideas (the more evil the better). I have made a list here of some of my cache ideas. Pinecone with cache inside hanging from a tree, string to pull it down is hidden A book in a library Behind a footpath sign In a hole drilled in a stone (use a stone from the local area for best effect (the resin ones are often very obvious because of their colour)) Multi cache that leads back to exactly the same location as it started after leading the cache a mile or two away Under a fake plant In a hollowed out log (this one works well i put one of these out a couple of weeks ago and it has already got (4FPs) A log painted white with squares on it where you sign your name A tape measure under some bark in a tree, you sign the underside of the tape instead of a log Stick a penny on the end of a bison and stick it in the ground (this one may be muggled though) Hang a cache from a tree with a bungie cord, make it obvious from the ground but make it near impossible to get to (i did this and got 7 DNF's before got one find Behind a brick that then slides out revealing the cache Have a pipe that you have to fill up with water for the cache to float up Have a cache that can only be obtained on extremely high tides Edit: 15:00 14/02/16 I have thought of some more ideas to get fav points: A fake hunting pigeon with a cache inside it A cache with a motor that uses a battery from a GPS to obtain it A TB hotel, with rooms for TB's and Geocoins Decoys in natural places for a caches A cache that says 'under a rock' but it is under a rock 6 foot up in a tree A cache hidden under a waterfall in a stream, so that there is too much turbulence to see it, but if you put your hand in you can find it immediately Please comment with more ideas for the most difficult or an extremely cool cache.
  12. There has already been an agreement written up in the my area so that traditional caches can be placed in certain areas, however earthcaches were not mentioned in the agreement. I have previously been placing caches in the areas with the agreement in place but i have just tried to place one in an SSSI. I have contacted them to get permission and i just re-read the reviewers note about getting permission, and it didn't actually talk about getting permission although it was implied.
  13. I have placed a few geocaches recently and am in the process of getting permission for some caches. I just realised that i only have to give the contact information of the land owners to show the local reviewer. Does the local reviewer contact the landowners, and if so how long does that take. Also completely unrelated, why do i have to get permission to place an earthcache where i don't need permission to place a normal geocache. Thanks so much Olly
  14. Thanks i will think about putting one up around guildford UK
  15. Hi does anyone know if these pigeons are good enough to fool geocachers. And also if i should go for a flocked or non flocked one. http://www.outdoorvalue.co.uk/products/99243-nitehawk-pigeon-decoy-full-body-flocked.html thanks olly
  16. I don't think that 100 caches is fair, or even 20 because i have hid 4 (if i may say so my self) good caches and i have only found 30. And also i have found more caches than 30 because i used to not log geocache finds, i think that the cache owners who have stopped geocaching should be put on a list and if their geocaches need maintanence be emailed by a reviewer.
  17. Hi i know the guidelines for listing an event, but would i have to hide my own caches outside of the geocaching website so i can put a lot of them in a small area
  18. I am thinking of making a geocache event i have never been to one but i have an idea on how to make one. is there a way to hide a load of geocaches just for an event, and have them within 161 meters of another cache. Or do i have to that out of geocaching.com thanks so much Olly
