  1. The NELA Geocaching Website has been updated. A new look, a new photo gallery, and more forum topics really makes the difference. Please be sure to register, check it out and leave feedback! Thanks Baralak! http://www.nelageo.net
  2. Welcome to Louisiana... If you ever are in the north part.. we have a few pages up here to find.. our website in the "Yankee" part of the state.. is www.nelageo.net Baralak
  3. www.nelageo.net was hit about 2 months ago... The good part for me is that I make weekly backups on the site and the data.. I lost several posts, but I was back up and running within an hour. Baralak
  4. I have a multi stage/stand alone cache that has a lock... It is located in plain sight.. Mounted on a pole about 3 foot off the ground. You can drive to about 5 feet away from it. It even has panted on it " Yes I am a Geocache". It has a combo lock located on it. You must find 3 other caches to find the combo (yes it is listed on the Cache page that you must do it) Check it out.. the name of the cache is the Cajun Fire Drill (GCTMHV). Good Caching!
  5. The really sad part of it... is that someone out there (and more than likely reading this very forum now to get feedback on the show) ran across the Groundspeak site some time ago. Then he got the idea... sold it (made mass amounts of money) to a production company and then that company sold it to NBC (even more money.) With all that money exchanging hands... Where is the credit for Geocaching? It was amazing.. ammo cans, Gps's, Muli-stage hunts... hum... Oh well.. I found it entertaining.. but as with Misguided.. I found SOOO many No-No's that it took away from the experiance. Not to mention, nothing was ever explained while they were there of any history of the location.. just hurry hurry.. find unlock, swim, ride plane, land, run run.. My 2 Cents! Baralak www.nelageo.net
  6. It's not just the home page, The forum names are small, but the sub titles are unreadable. I don't know if it is my settings, but I haven't changed any settings. This has all started when the forum colors turned yellow. Don't know. Baralak
  7. Something New... Now the Text is sooooo Tiny I can't read it. When I say Tiny... it looks like a smudge. Baralak www.nelageo.net

    Thank You!

Thank you for all your hard work.. I completely understand. I run the local Geocaching website in my area and it was nothing but a headache when I got it up and running.. I had a SQL problem but quickly fixed it. My site handles NO WHERE NEAR your traffic. I have a solution! Geocaching is moving towards a point where 3 dollars a month can't support the infastructure. I don't know what type of bandwidth you have, but I'm on a shared 0C3 and the donations I get in from my site help but don't cover all. I would be willing, not speaking for everyone else of course, to pay more a month for a "Gold" membership. Say... 5-10 dollars a month. Give gold members a special icon, and a member card, or a coin or something.. Don't know... Once again THANKS again for all your hard work.. I know that $36 a month just doesn't go very far when you look at hiring people to maintain a database (Chief engineer of 2 television stations, I know) Baralak

  12. Hey Thanks.... We have worked hard on getting it up and running. We are working on a logo and should have it online soon. Don't forget we are having our FIRST event MARCH 18th from 10am-4pm. Hope all that can come do.. Baralak www.nelageo.net
  13. We have obtained a copy of the news story the local NBC station did about geocaching.. It's good, of course they have to say treasure hunt. I wish we could have caught that before it aired, but he described the treasure is just finding the cache. Please feel free to login and check it out... http://www.nelageo.net Baralak
  14. Well it could be, or to the one in Arkansas, or to the constant AP story that keep making the rounds... Baralak
  15. Greetings, As a fairly new geocacher, and upon reading some of the situation some geocachers get involved with, I believe the largest problem is the lack of education that the general public has concerning geocaching. Some see it as nothing more than high tech cow tipping, or a cloke and dagger type of event when iit isn't... Most geocaches in my area are linked to some type of educational or place of interest that is either long forgotten in the area, or something of a well known local place not known outside of the local area. Our small band of geocachers(around 25 in my direct area) have teamed up with the local NBC station in town and they are doing a week long sweeps story concerning geocaching. The reporter is going to ride along and find caches and at the end of the week will hide his own cache. During this week we will discuss the rules of geocaching, proper locations, tools, current locations (with out spoilers) and how to contact a local geocaching organization. Even though geocaching does not have a "bad rap" in our area this is the first step into changing the preception of geocaching. I'm sure we will have a influx of short timers, but hopefully we will have some good geocachers spun out of this program. Also local law enforcement, and political leaders will be interviewed and informed as part of this story. We are currently updateing our website that will be given as a link for more information as well as our links to Groundspeak and gc.com. These are just a few steps you can do in your local communities to inform the public exactly of what geocaching is all about. Television, and new paper news departments are always looking for interesting and compelling stories to tell concerning the people that live in their area. In your local groups, find someone that wouldn't mind contacting the media. Don't be susprised if you have to contact them more than once. Really don't be susprised to find them wanting to do a story about this wonderful sport of geocaching. Peace Baralak www.nelageo.net
