  1. ISSUE IS RESOLVED!!!! Thanks to all for the input. The Master Reset stuff got me thinking about the one thing I hadn't tried... the maps. I decided to reload maps using Basecamp and just reloaded a subset of those that I normally have on the 450. When I hooked up the unit to Basecamp I also noticed that the tracks I thought I had deleted from the "Current" folder showed up in Basecamp. I also deleted those directly through Basecamp. When I powered back up the unit worked so I loaded my .gpx file and all the geocaches loaded properly and SHOW UP! I am back in business with 2 hours to spare!! Rainy River here we come!
  2. I can't get past the "load" screen. The unit hangs then turns off after about 20 secs. I HAVE deleted all waypoints, text info, tracks, .gpx files by hooking the unit up to my computer. Unit software is also current version from Garmin. I just tried this and the GPS freezes when the "Do You Want to Do a Master Reset?" screen comes up. I have to remove the batteries to turn the unit off.
  3. Thanks, for the link... I'll keep this in mind. I would prefer if I don't have to reload maps (This is a 450, not a 450T).
  4. I can't get past the "load" screen. The unit hangs then turns off after about 20 secs. I HAVE deleted all waypoints, text info, tracks, .gpx files by hooking the unit up to my computer. Unit software is also current version from Garmin. Have you tried to pull the batteries and reseat the microSD card? I have pulled the batteries and don't use a micro-SD card. Long story short... this unit doesn't recognize it and I have tried working with Garmin about it. After this trip I'd say it's time to exchange this unit for another but that doesn't help me in the short term. My other option is to borrow a Magellan for the weekend.

  6. Sorry if this issue has been addressed in another topic but I was planning on leaving in a few hours on our annual July-4th weekend 1000+ mile geocaching trip and I am rapidly running out of time trying to deal with this on my own. I am trying to load a new .gpx file from GSAK to my Oregon 450 and the load hangs up when the green bar at the bottom gets about halfway across the screen. This has happened intermittently in the past and I have always been able to get the file loaded. Today, however, I have tried about 20 times with no success. I have even tried NOT copying over a .gpx file and the unit still hangs. I have deleted all the tracks (archived and current) and even reduced my start-up text to two lines (name and phone number). Any other possible fixes I can try??? Thanks, DeltaMikeAlpha
  7. I need to transfer an activated TB to another cacher. Is there a procedure for doing this?
  8. Not sure how he'd be able to do that. In the first post, I note that he reports "The card also doesn't show up as a drive when it is in my GPSr" That implies that there's no choice but to format it elsewhere, and that doesn't seem to be working for him, either. It's beginning to sound like either 1) his 450 doesn't like that particular SD card, or 2) his 450 has a problem with SD cards in general. I'd try another micro SD just to see, then return the unit to Garmin for repair. That's the plan at this point... Try another card to see if it'll recognize it. If not, contact Garmin or go back to REI where I bought it... BTW, I DO get the option to format the card when it is in the Oregon when I use a newer laptop with Windows 7. It seems that the computer "sees" something in that removable drive but thinks it needs to be formatted and gives me the option to do so. That is when I format it. Thanks for the help. Don't worry about this any longer. I'm done trying to get this card to work in the GPSr.
  9. Thanks for the help. Formatting is one thing I tried earlier (full format). I also did it a second time. If I put the formatted card into a Blackberry I have access to the card and can put files on and remove them. When I put the card back into my 450 I still can not "see" the card. BaseCamp does not recognize it either.
  10. As one who uses a TB to track mileage and keep a record of ALL caches I visit, I love the new feature for "visiting" a cache. One thing I'd like to see, if it is feasible, is a way to directly enter a field note for the TB or coin when you log your "visit". Otherwise you have to go back and edit the "visit" on the TB or coin page.
  11. I was wondering if anyone can give me any help with a problem I'm having recently trying to load maps to my SD card using BaseCamp. I just bought a new 4G microSD card (Sandisk) for my Oregon 450. When I first opened up BaseCamp, the drive showed up. I went through the process of installing maps to it but after it built the map (after 4+ hrs) it couldn't transfer them to the SD card. Since then I can not get the card to show up when I open up BaseCamp. The card also doesn't show up as a drive when it is in my GPSr. I have tried BaseCamp on 2 different computers. When I hook up my GPSr to a new laptop, it tells me that the SD card needs to be formatted. If I transfer the microSD card to my daughters phone, the card seems to be fine. The computer recognizes it as a removable drive. Do I have a bad card? Is there an issue with my GPSr? Any ideas?

  13. I just attached mine to a TB tag so it can be shared at events. Has anyone else done the same? I was lucky enough to grab it from Posen's Park cache on 10/12/06. Geocoin Fairy Coin #156 (TBYXA5).
  14. If I may be so bold, I think I'll add my 2cents here. This is actually my first post to one of these forums. I'm fairly new to this addiction and have recently started a personal TB of my own to keep track of my miles on the road and all of the caches I visit. Like others, I also PLACE and RETRIEVE my TB in and out of all of the caches I visit. I also do this with the cache closest to my home coordinates after a day of caching to include the mileage to and from home each time I go out. I like the ideas that have been thrown out to streamline the process and was wondering what could be done to possibly get one of these methods implemented. Another idea that I had that could streamline the process would be to implement a VISIT CACHE log entry on the TB homepage. You could use a window for entering the waypoint to identify which cache was visited. This would eliminate visiting the cache page twice to log your TB in and out. This would also eliminate the need to go back to the TB homepage and delete all of the PLACE logs for those that do so. You could also probably set it up so that people could enter their HANDLE in the waypoint window so that home coordinates could be easily entered. Any thoughts? One thing I've started to do to keep an accurate log of caches I visit is to PLACE my TB in and RETRIEVE it from caches that I DNF. My reasoning is that I visit the cache site and search for the cache and since my personal TB is simply a bookkeeping record for me, why not include the DNF's as well. My question: Is this kosher? Thanks, DeltaMikeAlpha
