  1. I am absolutely horrible at solving puzzles. Besides asking others who have answered it - is there a strategy or resource? Here's one - for example: http://coord.info/GC3WAVR Thanks. Linda
  2. Does anyone else ever have trouble connecting to the PC with the Magellan GPS. You'd think it would be as easy as plugging in the USB cord and turning the GPS on, just like a MP3 player - but more often than not, when I go to send a geocache to the GPS the GPS is not connected. Then I putz, and swear and restart and reconnect until somehow I use the right combination and get lucky. Does anyone know what the magic combination is? Thanks! Linda
  3. Ah ha! Thanks you all. I think I found some - http://coord.info/GC43DM2 Is up near Bear Head Lake State Park and Ely. There are three cache on islands in that lake. I'm going to that state park for a preplanned ski trip later this month. YIPPEE! The three in the park, including the bird one seem to be on or around the ski trails. Also found that this series is on a ski trail: http://coord.info/GC1P0QX I'm still taking more suggestions! I'll check out Lake Elmo too - but not sure I can make a Tuesday work until later in the Winter/Spring when the days are longer.
  4. These areas have cache out on islands where I would need to ski to? L
  5. Hello - I had so much fun yesterday on Twin Lakes in Brooklyn Center, using my cross country skis to cross the lake to the island where I found 4 geocaches! Can anyone tell me of other places in the Twin Cities and/or Duluth area where I can ski and cache? FUN! Thanks! Linda
  6. So...what if I wanted an 'unofficial' app. Does anyone know of the best one for the adroid market?
  7. Hello - I originally bought the geocaching app for my iPad. This weekend I got a new smartphone with android technology. Do I have to buy the app again for that? Thanks! Linda
  8. The other day I saw a ? cache that was to "get to know your local cachers". You had to find 30 cache, of 10 different people. Today - during a really boring WebEx meeting, I did the research on my found caches and I have completed this task. However....I cannot find the ? on the map anymore. Ring a bell? Thanks! PS: It seems odd that I am writing a message about trying to find a cache....

    Recording FTF

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to know that I am not missing a crucial statistic - nor am I affecting anyone elses. And with a game this big, I would imagine there are plenty of practices that are tacky to some and not to others....its all good! I put my two FTFs in my profile. Mostly just for me to keep track.
  10. Hello - Now that I've published a few cache and I actually had a FTF (shared, but the other cacher said he'd share it with me) I don't know where/how to record them. Neither MY FTF or the people who are FTF of my published cache. Or is there such a thing? Thanks! ljvet

    Pocket Query

I have the query set to run on certain days I have a McGellan Explorist GC I can see the list of caches...I click on the check boxes and say "download waypoints" but I don't know what to do from there. The list is nothing more than a preview of caches that will be in a file once it runs. Place the (unzipped) GPX files on the unit in the GPX folder while it is hooked up via USB. THANK YOU!!!! I think it worked. my GPS now has 500 more caches!!! I'm going to do that again! L

  13. Hello - I have made two pocket queries. I assumed in order to download all caches in a certain area...I make a pocket query and then download that file. If that is true - how do I get the results of the query to my GPS? Thanks! Linda
  14. Hello - I've used this Explorist GC GPS for almost a month now. Today - when I go to a listing online, click "Send to GPS" I get the Magellan Communicator not found. error. However, its been working fine up until this. I've downloaded a new one multiple times and nothing's working. Thoughts? Thanks Ljvet
  15. Does anyone ever try to get their iPad connected to the GPS? Do you know if there is such a cord? My iPad geo-application doesn't seem to do as good of a job tracking as my GPS - but sometimes I want to be spontaneous and grab a cache that I see along the route - that I haven't downloaded from my computer yet. Not to mention I'm getting more and more uncomfortable bringing my iPad into the woods with me. I have a magelin exporist cg (I think). Thoughts? Thanks! Linda
  16. Yep, what he said. Stage #1 at Banning is a 8.5x11" stapled to the kiosk directing you to stage #2. Ggrrrr a person could be mad about that - or excited to try again next time! I will choose the latter. I briefly thought of looking at the kiosk, but I would have never thought it was out in the wide open. Every find is different - just when I think I got this thing...something changes. Thanks so much! Ljvet
  17. I'm not sure what you mean about "full page description". I have a Magellan explorist GC. Its been pretty good for the most part. And I tried to read up on the cache online prior to going. Because I couldn't find it - I thought I might have missed a part of the process. Thanks! Hi, ljvet. I'm curious why you didn't just go to the park office and ask them about it. They would have been able to help you, I'm sure. Well, I never even thought to do that. And, I don't think there was anyone there. I'm getting smarter - and I'm heading north again this weekend. Maybe I'll get that one and a couple more I'm hoping. I think I was looking for a bigger container for the first stage. I should have been looking at small places - I have some ideas.

  19. It is a multicache - the first stage is in the wooded area. Yes - there were two parking areas seperated with a wooded area in the middle. That's where my gps led me. I knew I was looking for the first stage - I just wondered if there was some puzzle or "process" to these wildlife ones that I was missing. Perhaps the only thing I was missing was a "find". hmph! I'll have to go back! It was a BEAUTIFUL day to be in the park. Seriously - when do you ever get an entire state park to yourself. We did not see or hear another single person! Despite not finding the cache, the hike was AWESOME!
  20. Without reading up on it too much, I went to my first state park yesterday. Using the coordinates from the website, I could not find the first cache. Is this correct? I figured the first one - in a wooded area in the middle of the parking lot, would be an easy find. Thoughts? PS: I was at Banning State Park.
  21. I've seen people say that a certain cache or a certain day has "filled an empty spot on their grid". Based on doing this for 3.5 weeks, I understand there is one goal that people have of finding a cache everyday of the calendar year. Are there specific areas on this website that speak to these grids? Or a place where I can get one/some? Thanks! LJvet
  22. Hi - I am new to this. Have been at it since Feb 24 and to date I have found 29!!! What I have discovered is that GeoCaching makes walking/hiking fun. I exercise often - and turned to running when walking just got too boring and time consuming. But this makes it fun! Walking for a purpose! My boys and I saw two deer in the woods last night! So this is great for them too (6, 4, 4) I was thinking about biking. I used to bike alot, but again, I feel like it doesn't give me the workout that running can, and its kinda boring to do by myself.. HOWEVER - I could see myself biking all over the country side if I had a purpose! However, my problem is I've been doing this on my iPad. Not so conducive for biking. Can anyone recommend a gps I could add to my tools to use while riding my bike? Thanks! L
  23. Wow - a lot of passion here. Thank you for your thoughts. I would never assume I was correct over the original spot - but I think the point missed in my original question was that about FIVE other logs online said they found it about 20 feet West of where the coordinates were. So it wasn't only ME who found it to be off - it was a bunch of others. I left it. I suppose the previous logs saying it was 20 feet off, was enough of a hint for anyone looking for it. I suppose maybe the original CO's device was different than the rest of us. I've been doing this for 11 days now - and I've found 29 caches...and using the Geocash App has been quite accurate. Thanks again! L
  24. Hello - What is the right thing to do - when the previous logs state the container is in the wrong place. You agree that it is placed .... say 20 ft west ... and you know where the obvious spot was/should be. Do you replace it where you found it? Or put it back where you think it belongs? Thoughts? Thanks! Linda
  25. I found the one....no problem once I knew what I was looking for. The other is a puzzle and I'm not sure I'm smart enough to solve puzzles. Thanks so much for everyone's help. Found 6 yesterday!!!!
