  1. This is interesting... the entire reason I originally signed up for premium membership was for map scolling. Notice how we seem to get less and less for premium membership.
  2. What AD's? java script:emoticon('', 'smid_14') ps... works like a charm. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
  3. I use .gpx -> macGPSpro -> Garmin60CS it works, but the interface for macGPSpro is deplorable. I've tried a trial version of Route Buddy, but it seems still in it's infancy and a bit stalled on the development side.
  4. That is quite fascinating. The graph clearly shows the summer/winter cycles, and up until very recently, unprecedented growth. These server issues are really hurting GC.com's reach and stickyness. I know that I have leveled off my caching habit because it just became to aggravating to log finds. I really hope they can get these code and server issues resolved! http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_...=geocaching.com
  5. That was my impression too. Since there aren't actually any privileges associated with being a Charter Member, nor did I ever want any, I guess I'm having trouble understanding why that small point of pride, the one that said I'd been around since the very early days, needed to be revoked. I haven't heard from Jeremy at all nor do I know how to reach him anymore. The person who denied my request is a guy named "Eric." all I can say is "wow'...
  6. Think I found one of those in a cache once.
  7. Perhaps the problem with the server response time isn't one of a financial nature. Perhaps Geocaching.com is lower on the priority list for Groundspeak than other projects. Considering how dated geocaching.com is ( can we say, 2001 design and functionality?). I mean, must we have to do everything through email? What about RSS feeds? better integration with google maps? Flickr like photos, social networking? I seems to me the GS just saying "status quo" to it's users, and the Alexa stats prove it. Did you ever use the site in 2001? Anyway, the other thing your likely to run into with complaining about the speed at which things are updated/improve is that the company that runs the site is private. They don't seem to talk much about 'their' business, especially money. Its hard to know if this are moving fullspeed ahead, or are they dragging their feet? Does the income from various sources just cover expenses? or is Jeremy picking out a nice yacht somewhere? You can make all sorts of estimates, but unless someone in the know stops by and comfirms them, its only a good guess . Sadly, I had not discovered Geocaching back then (I wish I would have). But the comment/criticism still stands, it is a very early 200x design... and according to way back machine, it has made some cosmetic improvements, but the functionality/organization doesn't appear to be that structurally different. http://web.archive.org/web/20011211193708/...g.com/hideseek/ in hindsight, I should have said 2002 http://web.archive.org/web/20021124085214/...geocaching.com/ I totally understand private companies wanting to keep 'private'. What they do with their money is their business, not mine or anyone else's. The users of the site will ultimately dictate if they are buying too many yachts and not enough programmers I don't think they are (buying yachts, that is), but I do think they are in a bind because of the exponential growth of this 'sport'. With a site based on 'hobby code' on a system that wasn't designed to be scaled, let alone bombarded with user requests, I am sure they are doing their best. My gripe is more of a lack of foresight with Waymarking.com integration with GC. Being on the outside, it feels like GS tried to re-invent the wheel with WM.com, (which they did), but somewhere along the integration with GC either became too overwhelming or unattainable that it never happened. So I am one of those users that loves GC'ing, but am frustrated at the workarounds of the site. I want to support GS (and I do, with lots of TB's and Membership), but I also want to vote with out using my $$$ as my voice. In this case it won't do any good. But raising the issues will. GC.com has an incredible opportunity to grow the site in user strength and financial support (not necessarily in size). I just hope they take advantage of this opportunity soon.

Considering how dated geocaching.com is ( can we say, 2001 design and functionality?). I mean, must we have to do everything through email? What about RSS feeds? better integration with google maps? Flickr like photos, social networking? Welcome to the forums. That was quite a first post. Are those serious questions you are asking, or are they rhetorical? "Status quo" means "current state or condition", so I'm not sure exactly what you are saying here. Assuming you were making an honest attempt to be on topic, are you saying that you believe Groundspeak is telling its users not to expect improvements under the current subscription price? Also, the Alexa stats seem to be clearly indicating an increased reach, rank, and number of page views each year for the last 5 years. Are you seeing something different? Of course they are serious questions/statements. Geocaching.com has the incredible potential to be a forerunner in the web2 arena... because it was a web2 niche before the term ever existed!!! It has all of the ingredients: A dedicated, if not rabid userbase, 100% user generated content, Viral in everyway (not just marketing, but growth), and many other benefits/features including the fact that it's incredibly fun. That said, the frustration with myself, and potentially many many would-be users, is it's clumsy interface, slow site, and lack of technical abstraction do not make it's online presence fun at all. Granted MS servers may not be the fastest or most scalable servers in the world, but there are many UI updates and overhauls that could mask these limitations. Could you imagine if GC had half of a yelp interface? All I am saying is a bitter sardonic way, is that Geocaching.com could become a rich, dynamic, social hub. That's all. It is frustrating for myself (and all of the people I convert to GC'ing) to constantly apologize about the sites confusing layout and frustrating searching features. Sure it's a flexible site, but that power is not harnessed and used to it's advantage. It is buried and difficult to use unless the user is accustomed to a multitude of workarounds. Yes, Status Quo is exactly what I mean. Look at Waymarking- it appears they have RSS feeds, gmaps integration, and so forth... On GC gmaps appear to be an afterthought (oh ya, try this beta site that's been in beta for the last 6months, and oh, the back button still doesn't work). I had a hard time justifing the Premium membership this year. Besides PQ, there isn't a whole lot of "value" that the free account doesn't provide. Is "Status Quo" that far off the mark?
