  1. We are in the middle of a one to two foot snow storm. I live in Plattsburgh and have yet to attempt many caches out that way. I am going to post your question on the NNYGeo forum. Here. It is the Northern New York Geocaching forum.
  2. I ALWAYS put the p in Binghampton...
  3. That could be taken several ways. First one being you are actually vacationing there... second way, you are 'involuntarity' there. Ha ha.
  4. I forwarded your email on. Am sure it was an over sight since we have never banned anyone, blocked anyone, censored anyone, or appenged anyone. ... What is TRIGO? TRI-GO is the Three Rivers Informal Geocaching (Dis)Organization. It the Geocaching group from cachers in SouthWestern PA, as well as Eartern Ohio and Northern West Virginia. It currently is over 385 members strong. Maybe if this information was pinned at the top under Local Geocaching Groups it would have been easier for someone new to find and actually be able to join a group. As part of the NNYGEO community I should've figured out you were some crazy collaboration... organized or otherwise . Almost moved out there actually Kittanning I believe it was. I also found a link to the yahoo group and felt like a dork for asking what trigo meant.
  5. This can be a place to drop a line either asking for help or assistance on your first caches... Or to offer help to give hints, a ride, a clue, etc. I stole this idea from the United Kingdom forum. I can help out anyone in Northeastern NY if they'd like a hand! -Alex
  6. If you have a cache that needs to be adopted, or at least know of a neglected one, list it here and we'll try and get someone to take care of it. There are many good caches out there without a 'real' owner. Sure, someone 'owns' it, but no one takes care of it. We can attempt to get in touch, or find someone who can. Perhaps a user you suspect has given up geocaching.... List the cache and a location, such as: This cache, in this town, needs a fixin' Just a thought for a good topic -Alex

  8. That one, to me was everything that is wrong with micros. A lamp post hide in the parking lot of a Dunkin' Donuts. Oh boy! Well, there goes my theory that SBell111 is lying when he says "some people like them". Personally, I think that cache needs to be aduped. I think it shows that these lamp post skirt hides might seem cool to those who have never found one, but once you found one, you've found them all. I guess Alexhenryj probably never saw one before. I found it in about 10 seconds, but I came back there a few days later with my wife (the date on her log is wrong) to get some coffee and I mentioned the cache in the parking lot. It took her at least a half hour to find with me doing the "colder, warmer, colder" routine after about 20 minutes. Are you calling me a country redneck?!?! Well if you are, you wouldn't be wrong! HA
  9. Everyone here calls it "Skenecktadee". how about breaking it into 3 body parts...
  10. That one, to me was everything that is wrong with micros. A lamp post hide in the parking lot of a Dunkin' Donuts. Oh boy! I guess something like that would be more appealing to someone from out of town, ha ha.
  11. The biggest epifany I had was realizing that it doesn't matter what unit you have, the GPS will get you close. Your brain has to take you the rest of the way. Also, I have a Magellan eXplorist 200, no frills, within 20-40 feet, and awesome on battery life. Good luck and have fun!
  12. What we supposed to do, not go caching in the winter? I understand if it is a often visited cache, but for some that are out in the middle of nowhere that rarely get visited, especially in the winter, what does it hurt? I enjoy caching in the winter, and if I was afraid of making footprints I wouldn't have any finds since the beginning of December. I think that goes right along with ... some leave the fall leaves upside down or otherwise misplaced. I placed a 4 part multicache (A Trip Around Plattsburgh) just prior to the first 5 inches of snowfall for the year. The FTF was hoping for some footprints to follow. I usually wander through the snow on my way back and in when I get close or get a hunch. The footprints make the day quicker. That looks like a good cache. I may try it the next time we are in the North Country. I lived in Champlain and Rouses Point for over three years and Plattsburgh was a place I got to know well. Thanks! I like it here. I was born and raised in Rotterdam, NY (Schenectady County) and have also lived in Northern VA. I like it, there are just limited opportunities to advance a career.
  13. wat du yew meen bye thut kan yew pleese tipe thut in inglesh C'mon we're all geocachers! We should only need hints and rough coordinates to get to the final destination!!

  15. Quick! Some one get me the pronunciation of Schenecatady!!! It was fun when we were younger!
  16. I hail from an area where there really are no "urban micros" (Plattsburgh, NY 12901). When I went to visit my family in Washington DC, it was wonderful! My favorite was C8 H10 N4 O2 Dreams or Paperwork Nightmare. Am I the only one who feels that there are a lot of non-micros that, when you arrive it's "ohh, just another ammo can full of odds and ends". On another note, micros at rest areas or just of the exits of highways are WONDERFUL! You don't feel like jumping into the woods because you are going somewhere, but you want to get out and have a few finds.
  17. I agree with your phonetical spelling...

  19. Myself: 22 People I drag with me: 22, 22, 24 I'm trying to get my parents to get going, they are 44 and 42... It would seem that for younger cachers.... The price of new equipment might be the biggest challenge....
