  1. Thank you so much. At least I know I'm going to have more geocaches to work on, might even get to lay a few this time round!
  2. Hi. My premium subscription expired yesterday. I currently have a legacy membership price, but I'm not going to be able to renew my premium until July 19th. I tried earlier today and didn't have enough money in the bank to do it. How long do I have to renew at the old price, and how much is the new price if I miss the timeframe for renewing at the old price, please? I'm in the UK, and the old price was £23.17. Thanks.
  3. I logged into the Geocaching website yesterday using my normal username and password, and was presented with a challenge to "verify my email address", which I duly did. I then, within moments, got an email "welcoming" me to Geocaching. I'm not sure what happened, or why, but it's confused the hell out of me. I've been geocaching for 10 years, I'm a premium, 128 finds (I know that's not many, but I don't get out much) and when I went to my profile, all my finds and everything were waiting there for me. Could someone possibly give me some ideas as to what is going on please? Clearly, this isn't right... Thanks!
  4. Easy to get to, yes. Easy to find? Not really. Three were very well hidden, one was practically visible as you walked past it.
  5. Thanks. I have PM'd the CO of the cache which was described as chucked, and they're going to go out and check it when they get the chance. It's a shame that people can't let others get on with a simple hobby in peace, without destroying other people's hard work and behaving like a dick.
  6. This one I would hope, would have a definite answer somewhere. A few years ago, I went to my birthplace, Newmarket, to do a spot of caching. I did 5 specific caches, GC81QBD, GC67166, GC81Q9M, GC6JKH2 and GC5MEMT. Today as I was planning my next adventure, I thought I'd see how some of those caches had fared since I found them. I found 4 of the 5 had been visited by a very recently joined cacher (April 23rd, 2022), called cppta. Their logs leave a lot to be desired, with them describing one of the caches as "pretty sh*t" (GC5MEMT) and simply putting "chucked" on another (GC81QBD), suggesting they've muggled it. Now I don't normally kick up about things, but as someone who has had their caches muggled before, this boils my p***. Would anyone know how to report a cacher like this, and what you can do about them? For the record, I will be pm'ing the CO of the one described as chucked by this cacher, in case it's actually missing and they haven't seen the log. Anything else I can do? Thanks!
  7. Ok, thanks for all your responses, everyone. I think it's safe to say that whatever I've been told is not correct. I'll relay this back to the cacher who told me about it, and let them know what's been said. Cheers all
  8. Hi. Bit of an odd one for you. I've just been speaking to another cacher, who is premium, and he's advised me that premium cachers are being told not to take non premiums to log premium caches when they go out together. Apparently this has come from someone who was a reviewer in our area, because it's "not in the spirit of the game". I thought the spirit of the game was to join in and have fun, not exclude people from the game. Can someone please tell me what is going on and whether this is right? If it is, why can NP members still log PO caches?
  9. I only posted it back because when I checked online, the goal was for it to return home. There aren't that many caches round here big enough for it, most of them here are small, micro and nano.
  10. Hi. Some time ago I found a travel bug outside a cache. I didn't know where it'd come from so I emailed the bug's owner. They gave me their address, and I posted it back home for them. Despite 2 reminders, the owner still hasn't marked the bug as grabbed, so it still looks like I have it, even though I have proof in an email that they got it back. What do I do? It looks like I've kept this bug, and I don't want others to think I have. Any ideas welcomed. Thanks
  11. Am I seriously the only person this is happening to? Nobody seems to be helping me out.
  12. I'd say the title's pretty self-explanatory. Basically, yesterday, I messaged another cacher. When I came back later, I had the yellow dot on the message center icon indicating a new message. I checked the center, and the dot was on the cacher whom I'd earlier messaged. But - there's no reply there, at all, and the dot will not go away. I've logged in, logged out, cleared my cache, cleared my browsing history and logged in again, and it's still there. I've also checked my souvenirs and it's nothing to do with that either. Please help me regain my sanity and get rid of this dot! Thanks!
  13. I can read the log and clearly see that the action I took on my cache was recorded by the system. I don't need an email to remind me of what I just did, or what my eyes saw I'll go for the email filtering thing, and just filter out anything with the phrase "[LOG] Owner: Crazypolyglot38" - that way, all the email intended for me, telling me what I just did, will go in the bin! Thank you for the idea.
  14. Ok, so the title is a bit vague - let me explain what my gripe is. I have geocaches laid out in my area, and always appreciate the emails with log notices and things like DNF or NM messages. But there's a problem. Every time I carry out anything connected to my geocaches, be it disabling one, archiving, coordinate updates, owner maintenance, whatever it is - no sooner do I log it, than I get an email stating that I just worked on my own cache. Now, I know I have a short memory, but do we really need to be emailed about something we know we did, when we only just did it???
  15. Hi. I'd like to know how I go about contributing to the Geocaching.com website. On the page under Play/Hide and Seek a Geocache, there is a list of Geocaching container notices in different languages. I want to know how to contribute to that list, and add container notices in languages presently not there. I'm learning a couple of new ones, and I'm already quite advanced on one of those. Add a couple of proofreaders (my tutors) and I should be good to add them. Who would I contact please? Thanks in advance.
  16. Just to update you, I haven't managed to pass these on yet, so I've emailed the owners of both bugs to let them know. I've been out of action now for a while, and I'm unfortunately going to be out of service for a good while yet. I've been informed that I've damaged at least 2 of the discs in my spine (L4 and L5 for you medically minded folks), so I'm right out of caching now for at least 4 to 6 months. As soon as I can get a hold of my brother and pass both on, they will get going. Sorry for not updating earlier, but I've been off the net for a while due to tech issues. Thank you for all your replies, and for the help you've given
  17. Hi. I'm having a bit of a hard time at the moment. I have 2 TB's in my possession, Bovine TB and Farmboy on Adventure - the problem is that I've already had Farmboy for approaching a month, and Bovine TB for almost 2 weeks, and now I'm laid up at home and under orders to take it easy for 4 weeks because I've damaged my lower back. Since I would rather these bugs go back out to other places as quickly as possible, what can I do? Is it possible to handover a TB to another cacher (my brother is one, Wilko199), or what? I don't want to leave them sitting around for another month while I get better.
  18. OK, Before I go and do whatever I need to do, I just want to check something. Yesterday I went out Caching for my first Easter Sunday run, and missed my first cache of the day - Bishop's Way - Clayway Drove (GC2ZZHW). I also had a travel bug which I forgot to take, and was intending tonight to return and put it in the first cache I found, which was Bishop's Way - Lost Village (GC2ZZER). While I was out though, my GPS pinged and said I was close to the first one I'd missed, so I went to have another look for it, and subsequently found it. My question is - What do I do here? I've logged GC2ZZHW as a clear "Did not find" - but I've now put the travel bug into it, and need to know - do I have to make a second, new log entry, noting the find - or can I simply update the log I made yesterday, change that entry to a "Found it", and note the placing of the bug into that cache?
  19. Indeed, difficulty & terrain isn't always a great identifier of just *how* hard it is to get to a cache, and I would agree with wilko199 that a danger rating might be appreciated sometimes. I found one a week or so back which was literally so close to a marsh that if you sneezed in the wrong direction, you'd be up to your neck in it. The terrain to get to it wasn't that easy either, being down quite a steep bank about 8 ft, where if you'd slipped you'd be in deep trouble. Also, it was on an isolated footpath, like the one wilko199 mentions, where the nearest vehicular access for an ambulance would have meant you being taken almost 150 feet along a bad footpath, over an extremely old bridge which is about as safe as playing football on railway tracks, and then another 50ft trip the other side to get to a road. The D&T ratings need to be made into a written style, rather than numbers, to make them clearer and quicker to understand without guessing or assuming.
  20. Not too good at Geostalking are you? I said that it was a Puzzle and I was FTF on it. It's also NOT Premium Member Only *cough* Cov Power *cough* Haha! No, actually, I'm not. I've only been caching for about 5 or 6 weeks, so I'm quite new to this. Thanks for the hints anyway, sorry if I've sounded a bit pompous, it just bothers me to think people are silly enough to hide caches in dangerous places...
  21. If 'near' a pylon is a no-no, then 'near' a substation should be close enough to be a no-no even if it's not obvious to a reviewer if it's inside the fence or not. It's a puzzle cache so the CO might have lied about the final location anyway (It does happen! ) I thought it was a bit of a duff location but never gave it second thought really... It will probably take anyone about 30 seconds to identify it in our finds list Mark Identify, yes. Quite possibly - I see quite a few it could be, Delta68, but the ones I suspect it to be are all limited to premium members only, and since I'm not a premium member yet (although hoping to upgrade soon) it's pretty hard to identify - I suspect it's probably "Reduced Wattage" or one of the other electrically named caches you have from about 3 weeks back.
  22. You're assuming the reviewer knew it was inside the fence - highly unlikely, I'd have thought. If anybody's to blame it would be the hider - and every subsequent finder that's logged their find and not brought it to the reviewer's attention..... Good point, keehotee. This really should be passed onto the reviewer, and to be honest, you're right. The hider is at fault for putting it there. I was just having a google round the web, and found this, which I thought might be of some benefit towards the discussion. It's from a guy called Johnnygeo, who is a Geocacher, and appears to have a fair amount of experience in and around High Voltage electricity. Perhaps having a read through this blog might help people... Johnnygeo's Geocaching Electrical Safety blog
  23. Delta68: Would you be so kind as to post the GC code for that cache please? I'd love to find out who reviewed it, because they should be shot! Regardless of what type of substation (in this case, what you're referring to is in fact, an HV/LV downstep transformer, which still carries 11kV to be broken down to 230vAC for customers homes) - anything placed inside an electricity substation becomes the sole responsibility and property therefore, of UK Power Networks, and you are not permitted to enter a substation or a transformer housing to retrieve anything. If you happen to get too close to one where the earthing has been stolen (as happened to one on my housing estate a month ago), you're liable to get some pretty serious burns or wind up dead. Wherever that cache is, it should be disabled, pronto.
  24. This might help you, Haggis Hunter - I posted this to geocaching.com's facebook wall a day or so back, it doesn't list what frequencies etc will be blocked, but it could be a start for you. BBC News - GPS Jamming expected in war games.
  25. It's unfortunate that it's not against the guidelines, really. IMO it should be - the last thing you want to be taking out of a cache is a half dissolved piece of candy which has been leaking everywhere, or something someone's left which has gone mouldy or decayed beyond conceivable recognition
