  1. I have been using Field Note download with my Oregon 300 for some time with great success. I would suggest one addition to the download page. Add a column with the "GC" number. It would be much easier identifying the correct cache. I have mentioned this to other cachers and they thought it a great feature. I have included a picture of suggestion below. Thanks to all and suggestions appreciated. Bob rwsherlock
  2. OMG! Didn't know about that one. WOW! Ddidn't realise that you could find over 1500 CM caches. Good to see a list that DrS doesn't or will never top!! It's not about the numbers. No, it is not JUST about the numbers. Geocaching is great and is only dependent on well hidden caches and determined cachers. Not to keep track to "lord" it over newbies, but to be a burr under my saddle to keep hunting. Many of my best geofriends are much higher finders then I, and some newbies with only a few caches also fall in that category. So - - - Yes, I do keep track of the numbers and will be glad when the CacherStats ranking bar is up again.
  3. I will be glad when needed corrections are made to Cacherstats Ranking Status Bar. Evidently it is a problem with Javascript. This is a note on Cacherstats site "Javascript: This style currently cannot be used in a Groundspeak profile". I enjoyed displaying the statbar on my Geocaching webpage. Best to all and good Geocaching. rwsherlock
  4. That website seems to up to date for you now...are you sure you wern't looking at somone else? I have been using Cacherstats for quite some time but it really does not give the whole picture. (ie: 200 finds) It also does not provide a compiled information page to the various questions I and others have raised in earlier posts to this thread. Good try tho..... KOC rwsherlock
  5. Last year while searching an area with 5 or 6 caches, we met up with an 'older than us' couple who were also caching. They gave us a hint for the one they had found and we gave them a hint for the one we had just found as we passed in different directions. We never could find the one they had just come from, even WITH their hint! We were very humbled as our group had 3 adults AND 2 kids and they were just the 2 of them and not as 'limber' as us. That day I became convinced that while geocaching may be a sport of the body, it is also VERY much a sport of the mind as well...and obviously our minds had handicapped us much more than their less 'limber' bodies had handicapped them. Chuckle, Chuckle. I like the reply above. Geocaching is a wonderful Game/Sport/etc/, that all can contribute. While age and or physical conditions may prevent some finds, or #5 terrain may also prevent finding if you don't have a boat, etc., it really is a sport for all. KOC rwsherlock
  6. Yah, I agree about the Florida age. I'm 70 and find geocaching a real gas. Keeps my mind about 25 even if my body sometimes exclaims "Who Me?" when I am out in the brush looking at a cache 25 feet up a tree. KOC rwsherlock
  7. I am amused that my request "ruffled" some feathers. BaylorGrad got it right!!!! Stats to me are interesting. And yes, I know cachers that are registered in more then one state. I also find it interesting to see stats for those states of my good Buddies. Thanks again for any Positive input to my fascination. KOC rwsherlock
  8. After reading this thread, I agree that a overall cacher stat search would be great. Such as: How many cachers in each state, how many cachers active in last "unit of time" (Year, Month, Day, etc), I can think of a bunch of other desired stats and you, the cacher community, can easily think of more. This day of computers should make this possible - a programing problem, yes, but possible. rwsherlock
  9. I have been searching for some time on the estimated number of Geocachers in Florida, United States and in the World. From the Geocaching Web Site, I can find the 4-5 million for the world but nowhere can I find Florida or the United States. Just my morbid interest. Thanks, Bob rwsherlock
  10. It is now the 20th of August and I appreciate the many replies from concerned cachers. Today, Google Red Flags the site as a "Reported Attack Site". Enough to scare the hinder parts off most people. McAfee SiteAdviser gives it a green check mark "We tested this site and didn't find any significant problems" but does give a caution on one of Cacherstats links (Information.com)"When we browsed this site we received several pop-ups". When reading down on Information.com using McAfee SiteAdviser, "User Review Summary for information.com", there are many black marks listed by subscribers. Not knowing if, when using Cacherstats, information.com is automatically called up as a subroutine, I am hesitant in accessing Cacherstats at all. Sure would like to get back using this fine tool. Again, thanks to all. Bob rwsherlock
  11. Just checked CacheStats Florida again and again there is a Google warning. It may or may not be a problem but my hyper-sensitive nature urges caution in using this site. Thanks in advance for any follow up. Bob
  12. Just checked the cachestats program and all seems to be fine. Both McAfee and Google report a clean site. Thanks to all for your replies and any help. KOC rwsherlock
  13. I have been using cacherstats.com/florida2.html for a couple years. Today I got a error flag from Google and from McAfee SiteAdvisor that this site is now listed as a "Reported Attack Site". While I have firewalls, and Norton SystemWorks with added safety programs, I am fanatical about protecting my computer. Many times, such warning are over cautious tho, and do not truly represent a real treat. Has anyone had experience with this site. Would appreciate heads up! KOC, Bob rwsherlock
  14. I've never seen this, ie, the PQ returning inactive caches and NEVER EVER EVER archived caches. This strongly suggests to me that you are putting the new PQ data on top of the old PQ data into your GSAK database. This means that caches that were active last time you PQ'ed, but have since become disabled or archived are still in your database. If you want to retain the old PQ data (retains logs) you can filter out any caches that were not returned in the current PQ by using a filter: Search:Filter:Date: Last Update GPX. Set that date to the day before your current PQ. All the caches caught in this filter are either archived or disabled. Delete all waypoints in the filter. I hope this helps. I'll give it a try. BUT let me state what I do. I like to keep all old data in GSAK DB if possible. When the PQ data comes in, I unzip it and click on GPX file. I then use the "Data Update Options" set to "Always" in the GSAK menu. I made the assumption that this would update all old data if the new data from the PQ differed from my GSAK old data. Am I wrong? Again I assumed that if a cache was active but the new data from the PQ indicated a inactive status, the active would be over written by the new PQ data status. Again, appreciate your comments always. Bob
  15. Its always been there I have checked the "Is Not Active" but still many "Archived" or "Temp Disabled" still seem to slip through. When I load the Pocket to GSAK and then download to my PDA or GPS, I get out in the field, can not find the cache, return to home to log a DNF and then find it was archived earlier. Other then going through each cache web page before going out in the field, I don't know what to do. Anybody got suggestions. I have been using GSAK for quite some time, the same with Pocket Q's.
  16. One pocket cache addition I would like would be a way to show all caches (within specified distance/location/etc) that has been Temporally Disabled. We can specify the Archived but not the temps. Maybe a small difference to some but could be helpful in some situations. I have searched the forums but have not seen this addressed. Thanks to all, Bob rwsherlock
  17. Yes, I think it is time to revisit this thread. It would be great to have GSAK and related data files on a U3 thumb drive. I often go on trips where I need to download new waypoints into my GPS. It sure would be great having everything on a keyring thumbdrive. Maybe even a mapping program also. Clyde has done wonders with GSAK and this would be a great update in this mobile world of ours. Geocaching and GSAK fit like hand to glove. Thanks to you both Bob rwsherlock and His Princess
  18. This is exactly why I started this and another string. When viewing the map AND viewing the list, we want the option of NOT seeing the caches we have found. View JUST the non-found caches! Thanks Bob PS: Make the request both for Google Maps and for the original geocache map program which I still like.

  20. I agree with chamois-shimi & special K, as I too, have twisted copper connections. Again, my main concern is getting rid of found caches, but other points are well taken. Sherlock
  21. I started this request for filtering out found caches several months ago on a couple other forums also. The map s on both original and Google are very good (other then a few bugs and Google slow loading), but the clutter of "found" caches continues to be annoying! The ability to suppress "found caches" would be a very nice touch! KOC RWSHERLOCK
  22. I like the new Google map but the old map still has some life in it as it is quicker to download. I STILL would like the ability to suppress my found caches when I am searching using both mapping programs. If I could only see the icons of those caches I have not found, I would be much happier. Bob
  23. QUOTE(New England n00b @ Aug 1 2006, 06:32 AM) * Perhaps I missed it,but my search results didn't come up with anything. Please forgive meif this question has already been answered, and feel free to markwell me. I was looking for a way to filter out my finds from being displayed on google maps. Can this be done yet? If so, how? Thanks in advance! QUOTE(Frank22 @ Aug 1 2006, 06:47 AM) * I'm trying to omit finds on the google map also. It marks them in the listing as found much of the time, but still puts the balloon on the map. I think these should be in the works. I'm sure alot of cachers like the google map better. If it could omit these finds, it would be great. I do not know of a way to filter them out at this time. If anyone does, please let the rest of us know. ******************************************************************************* I have had this request in for a couple months signal both for the old and new map program. I like the old map program for the way it lists information and I like the new for better graphics and utilities. I really would like the option of not showing my found or owned caches. (Or maybe only my found or owned caches.) ******************************************************************************* 8-23-2006 I started this idea 2 - 3 months ago and placed on 2 different forums. To date, have had no reply from any "higher ups" as to possibility of adding this choice. To restate: It would be good in both map programs, to be able to choose either to show or not show "my found or owned" icons on map. For example, I own or have found almost all caches in North Port or Venice, Florida area. I am only interested in seeing those caches I have not found, not all caches. I don't care if they are marked with a red checkmark, I just don't want to see them!!!!!
  24. True, but Google Earth is not as accurate. The GeoMicro map in Identify mode makes a nice quick printout. I like the Google map but it is slow loading. Thanks
