  1. I'm loving my Etrex 20. Order one, you'll have it in a few days.
  2. I got mine 2 weeks ago and it came with 2.6. I updated right away. I've not been able to replicate the 'sticky' issue
  3. I made this claim a second time to a friend of mine and was called a liar. So I proved it. lol I'll post the picture here for added food for thought. The black stuff is the ceiling/rafters/duct work overhead. There is a whole other layer of offices above, then a proper roof.
  4. I want to sell my Garmin Rhino. Sold as is in the pictures below. No box/manuals/cables. I've had it for a few years but it's not seen a whole lot of use. Some damage at lanyard attachments point (see photo ) otherwise in good condition. Features GPS, and FRS/GMRS/WEATHER radios. Brand new when I got it, I recall this unit costing about $450. If you can still find them new today, I think they are about $260. I will let it go for $100 shipped. It is for the unit as is pictured ONLY. No accessories other than the swivel belt clip. You will need to order a cable from Garmin if you want to plug it into your computer. I will accept paypal payments only. Please email me either through the GC.com website or at jpaz357 @ gmail . com if you are interested.
  5. The first weekend I had mine, I had it in some pretty nasty, narrow canyons in Southern Arizona. Worked fine. I can also get a good signal inside my office which has a steal beam ceiling, offices above and another roof overhead. It works pretty well!
  6. Hi Lanchingmaa About the compass... I don't have the manual in front of me but I am fairly sure it is for both the Etrex 20, and the 30. The 20 does indeed have a compass, but it is GPS based - it does not need calibration. The 30 has a digital compass which does need calibration. Hope that helps. Edit: I might be able help with the maps too... download Garmin Basecamp, it's free. Then get the free maps from GPSFileDepot. Most of them have installer files, so you just run the file like it's a program you're installing. Not sure how that works on a Mac though. And you need the Garmin Communicator http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/ for using the browser based 'send to gps' features.
  7. I'm basically just looking for great caches that are sticking in peoples memory. Don't mind P&G or walking to it, as long as it's a fantastic cache. Thanks for the list.
  8. I've been leaving paracord keychains and bracelets as our sig item. One keychain can be made with as little as 3' of cord, and made quickly too.
  9. I just recently got the Etrex 20 and am pretty pleased with it. It does a LOT for less money than other comparable units. The 20 can do everything you need it to do... The Etrex 20 + a Geocaching.com Premium membership, and you wont really need the phone at all anymore for Geocaching, and you'll get much better battery life too.
  10. You want .gpx files for the Etrex 20. Pretty sure you can get those as a standard (non-paid) member. Getting a premium membership will make bulk actions much easier by way of running PQs and loading hundreds of caches into the unit at once.
  11. Cabelas has the 20 on sale for $170 right now: Cabelas That's about as good as its going to get.
  12. welcome to your new addiction.
  13. Been here all my life, just out of the game long enough to not know which are the really good ones we HAVE to go searching for. I am north-central, but not opposed to driving all over town and beyond. (last weekend was a Santa Rita mountains Geocaching trip)
  14. This is how I do it with my new Etrex 20. New to this site and geocaching .Looking at GPS units and have decided on the etrex 20. Is this a good choice? enjoying mine.
  15. Theres no reason to not have a toggle in the GC app to push to your connected FB account if you have one. Just because you might not use it, doesn't mean other people shouldn't have the ability.
  16. It is indeed illegal to possess spent brass in MA if you don't have a FOID card, but I think it's pretty unclear as to whether or not spent brass that has been turned into something else counts as an ammo component or not.
  17. Even if you don't reuse the brass, I consider that littering as sure as thorwn down wrappers or plastic bottles. I've never understood it. It's worse than ordinary littering, it's copper, which is toxic to many plants. The desert is a tough enough environment without leaving this stuff laying around. Copper is worth a lot, it has good scrap value...Why aren't people collecting it and selling it all?! It's actually brass, which if I am not mistaken is worth even more than copper. People are lazy. I pick up all my brass because I reload it, but a lot of folks don't and are lazy/litterbugs and just leave it. I'd be driving around picking up what the fools left behind if I lived anywhere near there. Heh - see my edit on the post of mine you just quoted

Edit: in some of the common target shooting areas around here, there is a guy that goes around and picks up all the brass he can get his hands on, just for the reason of selling it. Interesting old man, kinda... quirky, but making a buck or two doing what others wont do, and cleaning the place up at the same time. A lot of people don't like him because he looks to be a homeless person, but he drives his old car out there every weekend, and he makes sure to ask if you are picking up your brass, and he will offer to help you pick it up and give it to you, or keep it if you don't want it.
  19. What knot is that? It's not a cobra weave like your bracelets. It is probably most commonly known as the 'over and under heaving line knot': After tying it a dozen times or so, I figured out how to burn the two ends of the cord together, and then hide the seam underneath the knots so it appears as one continuous loop of cord.
  20. Used to Geocache quite a bit years ago, and just now getting a fresh start with my better half at my side. What are some must-find geocaches in and around Tucson? Please give me some of your favorites!
  21. This is something I was wondering about. My new device makes a geocache_visits.txt file. Can I upload that? Where do you go on the GC site to do so? View your profile and look for a link called "Access Your Field Notes" click on it and follow the instructions. Awesome thanks.
  22. I would like to add anything in a remote, unpopulated location to your state parks comment. Anything out in the sticks/woods.... It is pretty disappointing to go for a bit of a hike to some beautiful location, and only find nothing but a bison tube with a piece of paper jammed inside it. For the most part I agree but there are some well done power trails done on unassuming gravel roads in remote areas that I don't mind. North of watertown, south dakota... just dirt roads, no major landmarks or anything that would warrant full size caches... And again in the southern part of the state, SE of Freeman, someone spelled out the word 'geocaching'.. I wouldn't expect power trails in these remote areas to all be full size caches. People drive to these expecting micros I'd imagine. I had to go look that up to see what the power trail looked like. That is pretty cool.

  24. Ah I see. I am assuming I need to load one, go into the garmin memory like a hard drive, find the map file and rename it there? Or do I do it from a device menu somewhere?
