  1. well, my handle involves a little story..... I used to work in a "cubicle" environment at a major company in San Jose, CA. (I no longer work in a cube, but still work for the same company. Now I work from home!) As a stress reliever we used to play the computer game "Quake" at work for about 30 to 45 mins every day. My name then was some nerdy computer name dealing with Linux and Unix that I won't bore you with. I got particulary good at this game we play. In the game we would all log in and shoot eath other! what a blast. One session I happened to get many successive "kills" against a buddy who happened to sit in the cube next to me. After he became frustrated that I kept killing him (in the game) he shouted in frustration "Stop shooting me, you Poo Poo Head!" This cracked me up and I changed my name in that game to "PooPooHead" to further frustrate him. It turned out that all my coworkers really hated being beat by someone known as "PooPooHead" so I decided to keep the name. I started to use it online for various sites and some sites would not let me use it because of built in "bad word" filters. I guess "Poo Poo" is a bad word? (Don't tell that to my 2 year old!). So I changed it to "PuPuHead" and it stuck. I also found that some people are uncomfortable saying "PuPuHead" out loud.. so if you are one of those people you can call me "Steve"!
  2. We are lucky! There are 28,454 caches in California. That is about the same amount that are in these 7 Midwest states combined: 4015 caches in Illinois 5156 caches in Indiana 1693 caches in Iowa 4823 caches in Michigan 3365 caches in Minnesota 4979 caches in Ohio 4079 caches in Wisconsin Well, if you do the math those states listed have approx .07 caches per square mile and California has .18 caches per square mile: states listed California caches 28,110 28,454 total sq mi* 407,141 155,973 caches per sq mile 0.07 0.18 Anyone want to do the math for MTRP? *mileage figures obtained from here -Steve
  3. I recommmend not being the one that is in the front! I set a personal best and had 26 on me after retrieving one cache in Puzzle Valley a few weeks back! Miragee, Jahoadi and John flicked them off me one by one. Luckily they got all of the little buggers. I hate trying to find them later when they crawl up your ! I got 6-7 more the rest of that day and have had several others since. They are bad this year! According to San Diego County Department of Environmental Health: "In San Diego County the Western Black-legged tick's life cycle takes place during the rainy season, October-April. " My guess is that they are prevalent a little later this year due to the late rains we have had. But I am no expert... just an occasional victim They have a really good page on prevention of Lyme disease that is specific to San Diego County. Most Lyme Disease resources focus on the north-east due to the high amount of infections there. http://www.co.san-diego.ca.us/deh/chd/vector/vlyme.html Fun reading...
  4. So what are you saying?? Some of us have names we might not want to be permanently branded with?? I knew that tattoo parlor was a mistake last New Year's Eve! -PuPuHead
  5. Hey guys, There are going to be a number of new caches (close to 3 dozen) that should be released in the Temecula area on Saturday evening around 8:00 or so. I am going to be watching for them. I am going out after them after they come out but would like to see how some of you veterans tackle these. Anyone game for Saturday evening caching in Temecula/Murrieta area? -Steve
  6. It still would be nice to save the bookmark list just in case the original is archived or modified in some way that makes me not like it anymore. Maybe the add bookmark page can change the form to input the waypoint names to accept a long list of them.. and when viewing bookmarks we can choose a view that lists the waypoint names in a format that the form will accept. So a copy a paste and we have copied the bookmark list. It would also be nice to download the GPX file from the bookmark page instead of creating a PQ and getting it emailed. For a "one-off" query it seems like going through the steps to create a PQ and then going to wait for the email, then going back in to remove the PQ is unnecessary -Steve

  10. hey guys, Just wanted to say that now I am officially hooked! I searched for my first micro cache yesterday and had a DNF. Went back this morning with a renewed determination and found it! I think it was more rewarding than if I had found it first time out. Anyone else have that kind of experience? Anyways, I have found 3 caches so far! still travelling, so can't wait to go home and find those closer to home. Steve
  11. I was planning on meeting some of them at the Geocaching event coming up in Feb. GCRJC3
  12. You don't have to sugar-coat it... I have been living vicariously through all your exploits for a few months now and have already caught the bug. Is there a 12 step program for this somewhere? -Steve
  13. Hi San Diegans, I am about as much as a newbie as you can get. I started listening to the "podcacher" podcast by Itrax and Foxtail and ended up getting a GPSr. Just got it (iTrex Legend) and found my first cache this morning. I am traveling at the moment and can't wait to get home to find my local caches! Anyways... just wanted to introduce myself. btw - I don't actually live in San Diego, but in Murrieta. figured I would stow-away on your thread instead of starting a "Murrieta Thread". -Steve
