  1. I mentioned this in my other post, but we both are down to the exact two units. I have settled on the Legend Cx (same price as the Vista C on gpsnow.com). You give up the altimeter and the compass for a memory slot (which to me is more useful for future expansion for use my auto)
  2. You have the exact same choices that have on my list =). I looked on www.gpsnow.com and the Legend Cx is the same price as the Vista C. You are giving up an altimeter and an electronic compass for a memory slot (which I think is worth the exchange). Right now I'm leaning towards the Legend Cx. Not sure if my input counts since I don't have one, but I have done waaay too much research =)
  3. http://www.compuplus.com/i-Magellan-Explor...rabber.com.html $50.00 rebate brings it down to $253.00
  4. I have a sheltie and didn't really think of bringing him to cache with me...that sounds rather fun though...good time for both!
  5. Thank you for all of the warm welcomes. I think that making it a family event or even a nice outing with the wife (with dinner, etc) is a great idea. I figured after the baby is born in April, she won't want to walk around too much, so might try to get a GPSr a bit earlier and bring her on a few simple caches. Thanks again for the future support group (heh)
  6. Thank you for all of the replies, as well as the link to the nicely priced Legend Cx! I will definitely have to check that one out, as I can see the expandable memory being a bonus. Curious to one thing, most electronic devices now have spaces for expandable memory, duos, sd, cfs, etc. When it comes to GPSr devices, why are they limited to 256mb cards? Not saying 256 isn't enough, but just curious why they can't easily handle the 512 or 1gb cards...
  7. I'm very new to the GeoCaching world, but already an addict in the making. After reading numerous posts, I believe I have narrowed down my selection of units to the following two: Garmin Legend C Garmin Vista C I just want to get your honest opinions if you think this is an overkill for a first unit. I'll be using it mainly for caching (80%), but can see myself also using it for driving directions in the future. Of course, who knows what will actually happen once I get the unit, as I tend to like to try new things out =). I'm looking to spend no more than $250.00 for my first unit, as I don't want to go overboard on the first unit. Again, if I am overspending for a first unit, let me know, or if you think there might be a better option for me, please let me know.
  8. Well, as the topic says, I simply wanted to introduce myself. My boss received a new GPSr for Christmas and said he read something about GeoCaching. I've heard about it in the past, but never paid it much attention. One Friday afternoon he brought a few of us out and we found our first cache. We've gone a total of three times and I'm completely hooked. I think my wife is sick of hearing about it hehe. Anyway, with the help of the boards, I've narrowed down my GPSr selections to the Legend C or the Vista C. I just need to decide if the compass is worth $50.00 on the Vista, as that appears to be the only difference. (Boss has the Vista C). Anyway, I've enjoyed placing the caches just as much as finding them. Granted I'm still very new, but have done two caches and hope to get more and more complex/difficult as time progresses. Just wanted to thank all of you active posters for helping me along my journey and starting a new obsession. I'm sure my wife would enjoy going as well...our first baby is due in April, so it might be a while before we can all go =)
  9. New entrant into the Geocaching realm would like to purchase a Legend C or Vista C...can get on Amazon and get a new one, but figured I'd see if I could save some dollars.
